Guest Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 I have recently bought a brand new YZF 125R, currently got 2000 miles on the clock. Unless i have a good wind behind me, I lose speed when going into 6th gear. Typical example today was 65mph in 5th at 10,000 rpm, up to 6th gear, speed dies down to 59 and rpm to 8000 and dropping. Wind behind I can get 75mph in 6th gear but i am reading on the internet that i should be getting more speed. Is there anything I should do? Quote
MtotheJ Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 It is a 125 first off so the speeds youre doing are pretty much top speed. And with many 125s 6th gear is a crusing gear, just to keep the revs down i think. Quote
c4rlosYZF Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 i would struggle to get 80 out of the one i had, thats head down and the wind behind ya !you pretty much got top speed there m8. Quote
AngryAnt Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 yup, my CBR used to do this.If its a bad day with a headwind, your talking 55 in 5th, and 6th well.. 30? Its a horrible feeling watching the speedometre drop while in 6th and going "no no no no" Quote
Bill_on_a_bike Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 6th gear is usually an overdrive gear (overdrive or overrun? I can't remember). It's only really to bring the revs down at the top end, it won't accelerate anymore. 75mph with the wind behind you sounds bang no for a 125, regardless of all it's pointy bits. Quote
XmisterIS Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 'tis coz its a 125! My XL125 would *just* pull 75 ... and that was scary! Quote
Mikey Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 My 5th Gear on my YBR makes the Rev's drop but not to much difference to top speedScary watching the revs go up to 10k in 5th haha Quote
Guest Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 'tis coz its a 125! My XL125 would *just* pull 75 ... and that was scary! NO! Tis coz its a 4-stroke Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Try adding at least 3 more cylinders - Speed should increase. Quote
cooper99 Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 dont mean to burst you bubble m8 but 65 70 is a fair speed for a 125, especialy a 4stroke one, now i was 17 once and all the kids on the net say yea my bike will do 95, the another lad will post o mine will do 95.4, lol seriously though dont worry they put these massivly opatmistic top gears on for going down hills, unless you wanna spend thousands boaring it out lightweigh cranks new pipes airbox injection bla bla dont worry, do ur test and buy a cbr600rr Quote
