Pete Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 I bought a new jacket the other day and the zip at the back doesn't fit with the one on my trousers. They're the same length, the teeth are the same size but the actual bit that you zip up won't connect with the other half. This is a long shot, but does anyone know of any converters that might be available? Like a strip that goes inbetween the two. Quote
Susieque Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 When you bought the jacket, did it have like the other half of a zip zipped on the zip at the back? If that makes sense??? Quote
Roadtorque Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 I bought a Triumph fabric jacket a while ago, this had the zip complete on the jacket, the bit for the trousers I took to a tailor to remove the old zip from the trousers & fit the half supplied with the jacket,,, Cost a tenner Quote

Doesn't SuzukiPete have a very good idea though. An intermediate zip, one that has zips on both sides and attach to the zips on the clothing. In fact a great idea. Well done Pete, why not set a company up and create them. Quote

Are they likely to separate during a crash or is the velcro as strong as the zip? Quote
Guest Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Apparently if used correctly velcro will hold up to 40kgs or something similar Don't know about scraping on tarmac at the same time though Quote
Pete Posted June 7, 2009 Author Posted June 7, 2009 Oh thanks PhatDad, yes I agree I am clever! Not clever enough to invent it though (well, it's a thought I suppose), but lazy enough to look for alternatives!!Thanks for the responses everyone. I like RoadTorque and Susieque's idea about adding the little tab bit thing that came at the back...I'm not too sure if it came with one or not you know! I'm sure it did, I'll just have to dig about for it. I could sew it to the existing one so I can still use my winter jacket I guess.I'm thinking about this 'intermediate' zip idea more now PhatDad's suggested it! 'Zip Entrepreneur', there's a thought...I'm not so keen on the velcro idea, like PhatDad says I couldn't put my trust in it in an off. It's needle and thread (and plaster on end of finger) time I think! Quote
Guest Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 a horse tack thingy do wonders, i've had them repair my leathers before (bigger needles for leather) but now buy jacket and trousers from same make.. Quote
wiffers Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 I sewed my zip onto armoured jeans and it works a treat. Used VERY strong thread and doubled up. Plus kept it as one long thread.Could od the same like others say Quote
Susieque Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Yeah - velcro not the best for the job really. It could come apart when you don't want it to, and it does tend to lose it's grip over time. Believe me I know - from the kids shoes at work!! Quote
