Guest Posted July 13, 2009 Share Posted July 13, 2009 Went to Olivers Mount yesterday for the first time since 1984, when Barry Sheene was racing. The place hasen't changed much but the racing was excellent. One thing I did notce was that the there was a lack of bikes visiting. When I was a regular visitor in the early 80s, the place was swarming with bikes. On another note, I had a few hairy moments myself on the way back. My own doing by taking stupid risks. At my age I should know better. On the way there I was expecting a lot of police, but there was hadley any. Overall a great day had by all. Excellent racing and a good day out. I might put the request for next years event in now....try and earn enough Brownie Points! The A170 from Thirsk to Scarborough looks a good road for bikes – I’m looking forward to trying it out for myself!Did you use the A171? According to Mr. Google Maps that also looks interesting? Guest Posted July 13, 2009 Share Posted July 13, 2009 We took the A171 on the way back and the roads were fantastic. you have to try them. As you know you can get close to the track and the superbikes were like cruise missiles. The 125s were good and you sometimes forget that real racing bikes (2 strokes, whatever capacity) are the real thing in my opinion. you can't beat the smell of 2 strokes, better than Hugo Boss after shave.
