with the grip rubbing you might not of noticed the free play as much

follow the cable and there will be an adjustment screw somewhere adjust untill you are happy with the free play i go for around 2 to 3 mm of play i like mine responsive

start the bike and go lock to lock with the bars to make sure the revs dont increase if they do then its too tight

Kawaskis are infamous for having poor cush drive rubbers, sounds like it could possibly be those.

i got two inserts with my lid i have one in the dark visor and one in the clear been in there for over a year with no probs
