  1. Hi Billy, I would tend to agree but requesting a copy of your "certificate of entitlements" should be acceptable. Doing this should create a note to be added to your dvla records that you requested and paid for this certificate which should be accepted if for some reason the dvla have deleted/removed/updated your records after this date. All records, regardless of changes and including changes should be backed up and if older then microfish records should still be available. Though I guess you'd need to point this out to the dvla as my thought are that they won't offer this information.
  2. Yes it's worth keeping but I also read that they may not accept copies of the licence which would mean you'd have to send it in. This could conveniently get lost during your case. The certificate of entitlement is legally accepted as proof of vehicles you can drive on your licence should you decide to move around the world... Lucky for me that N. Ireland have their own driver licencing governing body and when I moved to the mainland Swansea had to request this certificate before they could issue my licence, albeit with mistakes.
  3. You can request a copy of your certificate of entitlement Stu. I got mine via email 30 minutes after paying £7.50 over the phone this morning and they also send you a paper copy via post. It's worth having as its on official paper (email is pdf) and lists every Catagory along with dates they were added to licence (these dates may not be accurate due to changes within the dvla) and any restrictions on these categoryies. 3 pages in total. Small price to pay to have a record and I believe once requested a note is also put on your account to verify they have been sent to you.
  4. Won't hold my breath Stu until I have a new licence in my hand. But when the guy today read out what he was seeing infront of him and said that I passed both my motorcycle test and car test I did think that sealed it. Incidently, when they asked me yesterday if I had any evidence to prove I had done the test I asked if they had any evidence to prove I didn't
  5. After a follow up call I made to Swansea this afternoon, the chap told me that I passed both my motorcycle test and car test on the same date. Though this isn't true but is recorded that way due to the changeover from paper to plastic licences on the year dated in record. The positive of this conversation is that he was looking at my full entitlement and told me I had passed my cat A test. He also stated that they are in conversation with the dva in N. Ireland regarding my claim. He said the case isn't completed yet but once it is that I will be issued with a new licence. Still, I won't count my chickens until I have that new licence in my hand and the restriction removed. I would suggest to anyone that moves address or plan to submit their licence for updated changes that they pay the £7.50 for their "Certificate of Entitlements" as I'm sure this will mysteriously vanish with their old licence once the update is carried out! It maybe I am lucky that Swansea didn't hold my historical licence history and that DVA N. Ireland do right up to the point I moved to the mainland.
  6. Another update this morning. Just had a phone call from the DVLNI regarding my issue with Swansea and also confirming that my records show I have full cat A when I transferred over to Swansea. The chap is happy to chase up any issues I have with Swansea should I have problems and for £7.50 he is posting and paper copy of my certificate of entitlements and emailing an electronic copy also. It will really be down to how Swansea see this information and how they decide to act on it. But at least now I will have proof of entitlement.
  7. Hi, basically anywhere that was a 30mph limit is now 20mph, only a pain when going through towns, built up areas etc. Main roads, in most cases are unchanged other than those that have already had 30mph limits through built up areas enroute. As a note areas with street lights 200 metres (or less) apart are now 20mph.
  8. Too many to write out so pic is easier.... Though fighting the restriction on cat A as you're aware.
  9. I won't start celebrating just yet!.... I've bikes in N. Ireland stored with my brother and hope to ship them across at some point but as it stands at the moment I wouldn't be legal riding them. Yet I bought a new fireblade in 2001 and was legally using it until I moved here
  10. A update after telephone conversations today. This error happened due to a request to update address on licence. I moved to Wales from Northern Ireland, so today I first called the dva office in N. Ireland, (very helpful) they were able to call up my licence history back as far as 1985. This I believe is the year our old blue licence changed to plastic card. The record shows full motorcycle and car licences held but wording during the change over was 'assumed to have past test prior to 1985" and cat A was unrestricted and granted. When address change was applied for by me dva in N. Ireland recieved a request for a "Certificate of Entitlements" by Swansea dvla and it was sent and detailed full cat A entitlement. Today Swansea has raised a case on my behalf and given me a Ref number. I in turn talked to dva in N. Ireland after this conversation and they have sent a query to Swansea regarding my entitlements including yet another certificate of entitlements and attached my new licence number and case number.... I just have to await and see what else comes of it.
  11. Will do Stu, I've done a little more web searching and found posts dated in late 2000's suggesting they do accept photos taken of a previous licence detailing the entitlement..... I'll find out soon I guess as I'll make a call on my next day off.
  12. Did you get the licence issue sorted out with them or did you have to retest?
  13. Thank you for the welcome. I have photographs of my previous licence before sending it off for an address change. Which show no restrictions against the A category. I don't know why I didn't pick up on this before now. I was just browsing and came across a video quite randomly which had me looking at my own licence. And this address change took place a few years ago! I will be contacting the dvla and see what progress I can make. I may also have the very old paper licence and the provisional which was endorsed with the test date etc.
  14. Looking at my licence this evening and somewhat at a loss to understand it. I passed my full motorcycle test in Northern Ireland and many years later moved to Wales and updated my postal address. Never paid much attention to the new categories until this evening and discovered my category A has a (79)3 restriction. Now having looked on the gov site and entered my details to view my licence, scrolling down I see Vehicles you can provisionally drive motorcycle of a power exceeding 35 kW or with a power to weight ratio exceeding 0.2 kW per kg, or A motorcycle of a power not exceeding 35 kW with a power to weight ratio not exceeding 0.2 kW per kg and derived from a vehicle of more than double its power. A motor tricycle with a power exceeding 15 kW. Have they removed my full entitlement to ride any motorcycle? Thanks in advance. Rob
