Hmmm. Torn! Think a touring screen will be better and with soft panniers and tank bag it won't look THAT silly. But db will look nicer when I'm out for a blast. Cheers for the links

Hey all So I've been waiting a while to get a new screen for the bike, and its finally time (that means she said I'm allowed). Most rides are including at least 30 minutes on dual carriageway/motorway and I'd like a bit more peace and protection. The stock is nice if I duck right down (not exactly comfortable for longer trips, only ok if I'm not really giving it some beans for a short while) but I've fitted a big tank bag so I wont be able to get as low any more So I've read lots, and originally I wanted an MRA vario screen with the little flap on but the reviews (well the ones not on their own website) were very average with comments that wind noise was increased even if it did cut buffering. So that's out. I'm now torn - double bubble or touring? I'm 5'10''ish, so I think touring might be OTT (and I don't want to spoil the lines of the bike more than I have to given this is a nice day toy not a winter hack). Bonus of a double bubble is I can get away with solid black which will look nice on a black bike, if I went touring I'd want clear or light smoke as I'll be looking through it more. Obviously this varies bike to bike and rider to rider, but generally speaking what are your experiences? Have you had a DB on your bike and did it help? I mean they look so small, does it really make that much of a difference? Has anyone had one of the larger touring screen fitted? Just to pre-empt BMW Dave (AKA DAD), those with BMW tourers, electrically adjustable screens and sarcastic comments can bugger off

Previous experience is it can be a fiddly bugger to get the angle right but it will come off eventually

New improved CBT
al_stu replied to iiisecondcreep's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
Finally!!! Those morons on twist n go's who've never driven before getting a license after 2 hours - less at the right centre - it's insane. About bloody time the 16 yr olds did some proper training. Makes no odds to das people as you would have had to get a fwe days of experience anyway, just means a bit longer on the 125 first. I did an extra day after cbt at instructors suggestion and it made me a lot happier when we went to the 500s -
Oh ffs bike service almost done. Take off centre stand, run it till hot. Back on centre stand, once cool check oil and water. Top oil up a smudge as had dropped below max line. Now stalls straight after starting. Checked, it's right on maximum, perfect me thinks. Why has it started f**king stalling. f**k it. Put it down to grumpy bike, tired me, and only a smidge of fuel left. Will get 5l tomorrow on way back from work and try again. Probably be all fine and the f**kers messing with my head. On the up side I'm covered in oil and muck, just the way I like it!

f**k! Haha sorry yeah I just made your f**k it even worse....

Dude, I've got exactly the same problem. Instead of sticking to our ring budget at the weekend, she spent the ring budget plus my bonus because "we can afford it"... All I could do was weakly complain "but that's my bike fund". I might as well not have said anything. You shudda mentioned it before! I'd got a great deal by going to a dealer that was branching out into direct sales, could have sent you their way. They broke a 50 carat bracelet (not mine lol) and put the old diamonds onto brand new platinum bands. Diamonds are then vat free. I got 0.97 carat for about 1/4 of beaverbrooks price and their diamond wasn't as big either

f**k it just got my bonus and it's all going into the wedding fund instead of something that'll last more than 1 day...like a second bike No one tell the mrs I said that haha
-
f**k YEAH got 98% of my potential maximum bonus. Can't mention it at work as most staff don't get one so it's a touchy subject so had to celebrate quietly. Now just got to wait until the tax man finishes fisting me to find out how much I'm left with
-
Yeah basically you're going to forfeit everything they would have paid you - the notice period, outstanding wages, and owed holiday. Depends on the job, some will let you just go early, especially if you were on gardening leave anyway and the new job isn't going to leave them open to you using sensitive information.

My mates booked for April for his first track day and I'm going along to spectate. How was the track?

I didn't have (or pay) and excess and I dropped the only bike without engine bars while i Was on test!! Never heard of people being charged
-
I use it all the time because I'm never in when they turn up. Works well. Only time I had an issue was when delivery courier text me to say it was ready at their depot so I went to collect it and they wouldn't give it me as it was addressed to be collected at argos....stupid to text me but not the end of the world

Heads up if your looking for Biking Gear
al_stu replied to Chrissb6's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
I've heard aldi boots are a bit useless in the rain but I've had thermals, compression layera and the golf wind proof layers all from aldi and they have lasted 2 years so far but more importantly keep me toasty warm. Now I've gone from naked bike to faired I've actually had to take a couple of layers off because I got too hot! -

Yes mate, I did get it on. Although you can just stick it on to a flat surface, they provide Both fixings You might have the issue Chris mentioned I think the one I have fitted is 2 amps split across the two usb ports, so using one is fine for my Samsung but I suspect if I used both it wouldnt charge properly or at least take a lot longer -

Have no idea what it'll do to the battery, not tried it. Got one of these on mine for when it's running http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/161370635499?tx ... 0732647006 Just squeezes on the bars. Might be best with some sort of battery pack? -

Congratulations! Time for bike shopping -
Somewhere I do yes No idea only used - rarely I might add - on cars. Might give it a google!

The thought had crossed my mind...as had the current resolution of put it back together and just don't use it haha I just like to fix stuff rather than replace. Especially if I think it's a 2.99 part over a 100 pound replacement unit.
-
OK I have totally exhausted my DIY skills. I think I did that a while ago actually Where the hell is the micro switch? Is it in the actual control panel? Or is that in main fan unit? I looked on the control panel and couldnt see anything.

Mod 2 roundabouts
al_stu replied to rice-pudding's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
you're checking that someone hasn't come out the exit and is trying to sneak round you on the outside. Yes, they will try it, worryingly regularly. Good luck! -

just remember, any time you change speed or direction you need to check. If you're not sure a quick head turn extra won't hurt -

left, as you are about to take your exit -
ok so the saga continues. The brown wire runs into the main fan. I'm not having much luck at getting into it although I think with the right encouragement (i.e. a smaller screwdriver) I can get these off which may reveal screws. The issue is that it looks totally unserviceable when I peer through the fan blades anyway... The other side looks like this and I have no idea how to get in Now what puzzles me (amongst other things...there are many, women, brakes, how some drivers make it from a to b without killing anyone...I digress) is if you look at the main switch, the grey wire here runs straight to the wall plug. So in my eyes there is nothing between the plug and the lamp. The fan (and orange wire) runs off a different section...so would damage along the orange wire also effect the light?
