  1. What are you using for the roof? If your budget allows I would go for the felt shingles. They look good and have at least a five year warranty. I use 18mm ply covered with thin felt with shingles over which gives a good watertight roof. HTH.
  2. Very nice work. Are you building it from a plan or winging it? I have built quite a few of them in the past along with hot tub gazebos, summer houses, sheds, etc but it is my occupation.
  3. Yes, I fitted one to my Virago. I use it with my phone for a sat nav. Dead easy to fit and very cheap to buy.
  4. Another vote for Co pilot here too. Have mine rigged to blue tooth my helmet and it works fine. not had any problems with routing on mine, it got me where I wanted to go and didn't need the internet to do it.
  5. Thanks for the warnings Moo but a bit late for me I'm afraid, had all mine out last year! Got to say as afraid I am of dentists it was the best thing I ever did. Now I can pig out on chocolate and not worry about ruining my teeth.
  6. When I did my CBT on a 125 I found it so easy as the bike is so light and so am I at 8st and a little over 5' 4" tall (that is wet through) I was terrified at getting on a big bike even though I had ridden smallish bikes back in the 70's. I started on a Suzuki 500 and found it a bit heavy at first trying to push it around. Once I actually started riding it I was surprised at how easy it was to manoeuvre under power. Have to admit to dropping it a couple of times on the slow work but soon got the hang of it. Then the rules changed which meant I had to take the test on a 650cc bike for the full licence! Again I was so worried about the even bigger bike not to mention could i touch the ground on it with my short legs! I needn't of worried as the 'new' bikes were Kawasaki ER6's which although heavier bikes was so easy to manoeuvre. Slow work on this bike was just great and I was soon throwing it around like a pro. It is so very true that the extra weight and power makes it easier work. No matter what size of bike you ride it is all down to the clutch control and the rear brake that will make all slow work easy. HTH.
  7. My nob of the day has to be the driver of a small Honda civic (matt black with red wheels and big bore exhaust) on my ride out tonight. After overtaking him on a NSL road he kept up my ar*se all the way into town until we got to a roundabout where he took the inside lane to turn left. (he wasn't indicating) As I pulled away to go straight on in the outer lane he undertook me like bat out of hell and went straight on! As the road opened up to the NSL limit again I left him for dead up to the next roundabout. This must have really pi**ed him off as he took a right at the roundabout with all tyres squealing as I tootled off in the other direction into the 40 zone. when will they learn?
  8. One of my MOD 1's was cancelled due to the examiners being on strike! Even the school didn't know about it until we got there! (60 mile round trip) I got the next one free though.
  9. Yep, think that's the end of Top Gear then and another nail in the BBC coffin. I have to agree with you about the quality of the programmes on the BBC now, they are just following all the other channels making cheap trash or repeats. and to think they used to make some of the best quality programmes in the world. maybe they will have to abandon the licence fee and turn to pay per view instead, (fingers crossed) then we can choose not to watch it.
  10. It is the same test and the same cost for A2 or A licence. I am a short 8 stone weakling and took my A test on a 650 without too much trouble. I then had a 750 Virago which is pretty docile and i enjoyed it but have now stepped up to a 600 Honda Hornet after one year. In my opinion you are just throwing money away taking the A2. Do the A test and buy a smaller bike, simples!
  11. On my test there is a dual carriageway just outside the centre and we took it. I got the bike up to 50 on it and we turned off at the second junction. When we got back to the centre he asked if I had done much out of town riding and he said it showed and then told me to ride it like you stole it! and gave me my pass ticket.
  12. Then it will be repeated, again and again and again ad-nauseum. Then all you have to pay is the BBC.
  13. Now that explanation I do like, think I'll use that excuse.
  14. I received a letter today informing me that my pension matures in August which came as a surprise to me as I thought it matured when I reached the age of 60? It puzzled me why they would send me this considering I was 57 years old? Doubting my sanity I did a calculation from my birthday back in 1955 and it transpires I am 60 this year! Where has the last two years gone!? I was convinced I was 57! I guess it must be the onset of Dementia then. I still can't afford to retire and think I will be working my way into my box at this rate. Have to admit I did think I felt old with all of the aches and pains of the days work.
  15. Before I went self employed my old employers decided they would change all our contracts to a zero hours one! (we had signed contracts for a normal 40 hour week originally) most of the guys signed thinking they had no choice around 70 of them, we on the other hand (20 of us) didn't think they could do this and sought help through the union. We also contacted the local papers and fought it all the way. We won the case and kept our original contracts. Afterwards there was no animosity to us as the our manager told us in confidence that he would have done the same in our position. Not a lot of help to you of course but it just shows what can be done with the right help.
  16. I think Top Gear is brilliant. It would drop out of the ratings if Clarkson wasn't there. He does insult people and act stupid but it is just for the ratings and he gets a bit carried away. I can't see the BBC getting rid of him as it is such a good money earner for them. Without Top Gear what else have they got?.......reality shows or Dead enders! It shows how good the show is when other countries around the world emulate it! As for Fifth Gear it is just boring. There are too many motoring programmes that are for the Green party, Top Gear is for petrol heads, just a pity they don't do bikes too. On the reporting on Clarkson on the news it keeps showing the Porsche with the Falklands reg which I am sure he didn't pick and besides the link with the Falklands was a bit slim anyway! Long live Top Gear with Clarkson I say.
  17. Passed my test at the beginning of last year and have put over 2000 miles on the bike. I now feel pretty confident in most situations. I have been driving for over 30 years too. First long ride was from Humberside to Essex!
  18. Well done Shirl, now go have some fun.....weather permitting
  19. Whoa! there's a bike I haven't heard of for a while. I used to own a couple of Bantams back in the 70's. Turned one into a chopper, (i know don't ask) and got the other running backwards once.
  20. Good on yer Shirl. MOD 2 is no problem, just a ride with a sat nav. just relax and enjoy the ride, good luck.
  21. Take your time Shirl it isn't a race. Treat each exercise as a separate part, before each one take a couple of deep breaths and try to relax. Never look at the cones only where you want the bike to go. How do I know all this? I also took five attempts to get it.
  22. Ah yes, I know the road well, I broke down there last month in the van. Nice clear video from your camera there too what camera do you have? I had to laugh at the fogged out speedo though.
  23. C'mon then, in true forum form, pics or it didn't happen.
  24. I love watching his series he is so entertaining. He's a top bloke who will have a go at anything, not to mention balls of steel. He's going to put a Rolls Royce Merlin in his living room too! What a star.
