  1. To be fair, the only people that should be up at that time are either shift workers like myself or thieves, and based on some if the planks we get calling us out, I wouldn't be surprised...
  2. No offence to the original poster of this thread, but this topic is one of those that in essence is pointless - largely because it will go round and round and round.... a bit like the dark visor debate. The problem with using phones in cars isn't clear enough to start with. What IS the part that is meant to be dangerous? Is it the 'one handed driving' or the fact you are talking to someone and not concentrating on the road? Either point can be argued for/against. Are one handed people allowed to drive? Yes. Where is the difference if you are smoking and driving, or eating a bag of crisps? If it's the talking point... well... I don't need to go on. As has been said, it isn't policed correctly or taking serious enough for people to care. In theory it makes sense to some degree but as with most laws like this rolled out, the execution is a joke. Either do it or don't.
  3. Dunno if anyone from Leeds, Bradford, West Yorkshire Our surrounding areas fancies it, but I'm having a wide or somewhere tomorrow. Nowhere particular in mind just wanna make the most of the (half decent) weather. I'm gonna be aiming to set off around 10.30 - 11.00am ish from around the Ikea area of Leeds and then see where I end up. I need to be back for around 4pm. Anyone interested should pm me or reply to this post and I'll check back later this eve/first thing tomorrow

  5. Am so glad I don't have to go through all that again. Best of luck
  6. Meanwhile back in the real world... Totally agree with all the previous points here but let's face it, in a country where immigration is at an all time high and this Govt. Would rather screw honest tax payers and hand out benefits to those who have contributed zip, this is bottom of their agenda. Did anyone see the hoohaa that was made over that woman on Question Time the other day? She spoke up for Boston, Lincs about the immigration issues and was applauded. Deaf ears love, deaf ears. People will happily agree but will anything ever change for the better? Doubtful.
  7. Didn't realise I already replied to this but I'm up for owt. I'll struggle to get a week off in one block add I work 4 on 4 off but am Dec up for the odd weekend away and def days out always on the cards. Keep me informed
  8. I know I did a fair few last year including one which was a more or less all-dayer run to Scarborough: I started from my house but could easily be tailored to accommodate anyone who wanted to join from any point etc. The route I took was from Leeds North to Harrogate, Ripon, Leyburn, East then to Thirsk (Stopped for a wee and quick rehydration in Thirsk Market square), then further east to Kirkby Moorside, Pickering and carried on to Scarborough. Fish n chips on the front. Back in the saddle and South then down the coast to Bridlington, West to Driffield, through the outskirts of York and on to Tadcaster before venturing on to Squires at Sherburn-in-Elmet for a brew. From there you can make your way home Total distance - approx 200 miles Total time - roughly 5 hours excluding stops Well worth a sniff and some stunning scenery to take in, especially around North Yorks.
  9. See if you can get hold of a contact point for him please. He might be able to advice me on best ways of organising it etc. Cheers fella
  10. Tbh, I actually agree but from the perspective of raising money it's the best way sort of getting a big input from a local company or similar. Will def keep everyone posted
  11. As the majority of members here are male, this will possibly appeal more to us than some. One of the Paramedics I work with has just signed up to not 1, but 2 marathons this year including the new Yorkshire Marathon - anyone mad enough wanting more info on this one can click this following link I've already sponsored her at work yesterday but I said I would post her JustGiving Donation Page link on here for any members who may want to donate. The link to Julie's page is HERE Anything you can give is cool, be it £1 or £100, it all makes a difference. If this isn't excuse enough to donate, have a look at the following shocking prostate cancer facts: • Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. • In 2009 in the UK around 40,800 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer, that's around 112 every day. • Over the last 40 years prostate cancer rates in Great Britain have tripled, although much of the increase is due to increased detection through widespread use of the PSA test. This sparked an idea this morning for a possible ride we could look at organising this year to help raise even more money for prostate cancer, if we get enough interest - maybe look at joining with other forums and doing one MASS charity ride and really put our name on the map as a site (alongside other forums). Separate post about this HERE What I would ask (and this will serve to both generate more interest in our site and any charity ride we do) is if you do donate online, please add a supportive message and also some brief advert to promote TMBF with a view to doing this charity thing. We'll prob look at doing it in the summer.
  12. One of the Paramedics I work with is doing 2 Marathons this year for Prostate Cancer - the post to this is HERE It sparked off an idea to maybe look at organising some kind of charity ride in the summer. Just a few ideas I came up with so far prior to looking at dates etc; Maybe amalgamate with other bike forums we might be members of and really make an impact? Look at getting someone like MAG (Motorcycle Action Group) in on it as well as they are pretty good at organising stuff like marshalling etc? I have a few contacts in the police who might be able to offer some advice on best ways to safely pull this off - or are some of you a bit twitchy about riding around police? They're usually pretty cool with stuff they might normally pull you for when doing big event rides like this - loud exhausts and dark visors etc. Also if you could link Julie's JustGiving page to any posts you might want to post on other forums or sites or even at work, that would be fantastic. Your views and opinions greatly appreciated.
  13. A nice little posse forming here I dare say. Should make for some good video.
  14. Will do but sometimes its a last minute thing, a case of "anyone out today - be ready in an hour" - weather permitting. Not always though. (I pm'd you back BTW about my Sig Techno)
  15. Just scoping for a bit of interest to see if any members from Yorkshire areas fancy a ride out sometime? I'm from the Leeds/Bradford area, not too far from Jordan Bikes off J27 M62. I get a fair bit of time off during weekday days as I work shifts and have been riding years so experienced and sensible and don't ride like I'm on the TT. Usually like to clock up 100+ miles on a run, take in scenery and down a few teas. Am gonna be looking at doing plenty of on-board video this year as well for distribution on YouTube. Drop me a PM if interested.

    A Puzzle for you

Apologies if it sounds obvious, but have you tried taking it to a garage and asking them?
  17. It amazes me how much a simple thing like a licence can have on some people. For some, getting caught over the limit just means an inconvenience, for others like me, I'd lose my car, bike and licence to drive an ambo therefore rendering myself redundant. Another reason why if any of you ever meet me out on a ride I won't be riding faster than the limit.
  18. Have you tried to get hold of a solicitor who can get you off with just a fine? They're out there and I'm sure a mate of mine knows a guy. I'll have a word if you want, drop me a PM. I'm not condoning your actions by any means and I'll admit I've probably been one of those who can also tick the 'morning after' box, but, its a shit time to be put in this situation and I know what it means to someone who goes all out for something like getting a dream job and having obstacles in your way, sadly in your case, and you know and admit this, you placed them there. Shit happens though mate and like has already been said, fate has a strange way of dealing hands. Have you ever thought along these lines? Maybe this happened so you DIDN'T pass your test on the bike? Maybe this WASN'T your time to start biking. Maybe there could be a good reason for this? Nuff said.
  19. Never done a track day and not sure I fancy it if I'm honest. Part of me thinks "hell why not" but another part is thinking I'd be putting myself under pressure to ride out of my comfort zone and I'd only wanna get my knee down, something I've never done on a bike after a slow speed low side years ago. Saying that, a guy down my street does one every year after the winter break to get him back into the swing of riding. Good idea really. Might have to rethink it. Does anyone know if you can hire bikes for track days as I'm sure insurance doesn't cover you to use your bike on track/race days.

It was a fair comment he made though and I can sympathise with him. Look at the flack I received from that guy on Youtbe about drilling a hole in his lid just so he could mount his GoPro on it. I tried to offer a simple piece of constructive advice to him and he turned on me with that "WTF do you know about it" mentality. Sometimes views are best kept for the person who initially asks for them, that way they can't exactly turn round and say that otherwise they would be, "well you asked me for my opinion". You can never be sure what response you will receive on a forum though so... I know Jack Sh1t about photography at this point so if he told me I'd be better taking pics in my wife's underwear, I'd probably be inclined to believe him and do it (or is it I just fancy that thong thing going on?)
