  1. Hi all, Under the latest UK laws and regulations on motorcycle licences is there any benefit to me have two years experience on a 125cc motorbike (cbt), not sure I am understanding the rules fully? Thanks
  2. From what I remember, when you spot a hazard you click the screen (anywhere on the screen, doesn't have to be at the hazard point). You would be classed as cheating if you basically go click to many times i.e one click every second or so or if you clicks are too rhythmic i.e once every 2 seconds for the whole video. I hope this makes sense. There are a few good links online to practice but sounds like your finding them. Some of them show you the solution and when you should have clicked.
  3. I agree with Obrien65, was I was starting out on a 125 (still on it now), there were times when i didn't get the gear and throttle control quite right and sometimes remember thinking that I was glad it was only a 125 and not something with more power for the bike to get away from me.
  4. Ok, so had the caliper off and the pads were not as worn as I thought they were from the outside. But what I noticed was that on side of one of the pads looks slightly more worn than the rest of the pad areas. Then I pulled the brake lever gently and only one piston started to move. I freed both sides and clean the pistons, I went as far as I dared, they were quite mucky. I pushed them back in using a g-clamp and repeated this a few times. Unfortunately, I didn't have any red rubber grease, couldn't find this in B&Q or halfords online. Is it called something else too? I found some on ebay, so can order some. I put everything back together (current brake pads for now) as I think I am going to have to remove them as you suggest megawatt, replace the seals, but need to order the seals and the grease first.
  5. Thanks Pete, I will try with my hands first, if that fails then g-clamps not pushing too hard. Then remove the brake fluid reservoir top, if need be,
  6. Awesome advice and ideas thanks all! G-clamps! of course, great idea. I have those.
  7. Thanks all! Ok, certainly will be quicker and easier if I don't need to take the caliper off. I will try to put something between the disc and screwdriver to avoid damaging the disc. Not sure how easy it will be to prize the pistons back, as you say I will only know when I try.
  8. Hi all, I need to change my brake pads on the front, I have had the caliper off and back on before so I am comfortable with that part of it. My main question is how I push the pistons out so I can get the new thicker pads in? Thanks all!
  9. Thanks Adam! It was worth investing in some rear paddock stands. Need to get a front one too. This should make jobs like cleaning and lubricating the cgaib much easier.
  10. Huge thanks everyone. I got a fresh tyre on the rear! The trickest part taking the wheel off was derailing the chain. I was concern about getting stuck on this and damaging the chain. I found it was easier to derail the chain towards the tyre and then pull it past the sprocket after taking the axle bolt out. In terns of putting it back I managed to do this without having to take the caliper off, but i can see how this would be easier with it off. Thanks again everyone!!
  11. Thanks a bunch everyone, this is so helpful!! Phew no need to undo the chain I am not sure how my caliper is mounted, it seems the caliper bracket goes through the rear axle spindle, however not sure if this is slotted? i.e. will it stay in place when I take the the spindle out? I need to take a closer look at the manual and bike again. I wonder if it is the same on most bikes. This is all a good learning experience for me .....
  12. Thanks for your help Tango There are brake discs at the rear. I have a rear paddock stand.
  13. Morning all, Thought I would post this question in the pitstop section. I have never done it before but how easy is it to remove the rear wheel and put it back on. (Cbr125r). I am really eager to learn and don't his myself, however don't want to end up stuck. Thanks everyone.

    torque wrench

Yes that feeling is what you would like to develop. Not forgetting that every tool with a different lever arm will apply a different torque for the same load. For my rear axle but its a good thing I had a larger torque wrench. Without it I don't think I would have gone as tight as it needed to be.

    torque wrench

Thanks. Yes I can't think of a work around either. I will check out the one in halfords.

    torque wrench

Hi all I have a torque wrench from 28 Nm to 200 Nm. This means that a lot of my bolts and nuts on my bike don't reach this value. The only wrenches i have seen from 0 to 30 ish Nm are really expensive. What do you do about torquing you nuts and bolts to these low values. Thanks!
  17. Thanks all. I have some Holts brake cleaner spray. When I take the caliper job off the disc should I spray that all around the caliper. Or is this a bad idea and are there areas I should avoid using the brake cleaner?
  18. Thanks Tango. Is there anything I need to watch out for when I do the caliper job?
  19. Hi all, I am unsure if my CBR125R should have two or one low beam headlights, currently there are no low beams but both high beams work fine. I can not see any information on this in the bike manual. I don't know if both or just one bulb needs replacing. Also my bike failed it's MOT on the front brake griping slightly when not being applied. The tester said that the calliper pins need cleaning and re-greasing, as when it sticks when he taps the calliper it releases. What is the easiest way to do this? Hopefully I can do this without draining the brake fluid. I am assuming I can remove the calliper from the mounts and disc (two bolts). Then take the pins off and clean them and re grease them, or will there be more to it than this? Thanks
  20. Thanks very much klingelton, I will all check out xsrts.
  21. Hi all, Just reflecting on my riding and seeing areas to improve on and maybe further training this year? 1) When you are doing a left turn at a roundabout do you always do a left shoulder check? 2) I will be taking the bike for an MOT in a few months for the first time, what are the common areas that MOT centres pick up on? 3) Would it be worth taking a mod1 on my 125 before going training and the test on a bigger bike? 4) How do you differentiate a good Mod1 and Mod2 trainer from a bad one, and one who is more concerned about turnover? (I mean no disrespect to all the fantastic and honest driving instructors out there) Thanks everyone, I look forward to you responses!
  22. After some pushing and pulling. Managed to free the pads from the disc. I have some Holt Brake Cleaner spray. Can I spray this on the discs and calipers? I assume this is safe to spray on the brake pads? Thanks.
  23. Sorry Stu forgot about the Pitstop section, thanks!
  24. Thanks GazzyG, i will most probs attempt this myself! Any tips and advice from the Pros out there?
  25. Hi all, I haven't been on my bike for about 2 weeks now, when I hopped on it today I could not move the front wheel, it just doesn't want to rotate. I did notice that the last few times I got on the bike the front wheel was slightly stiff when first moving off, but then after about 100m of riding seemed to roll like normal. Could this be a siezed front caliper? Any advice on the following: (a) Quick fixes so I can get riding again next week then... (b) Longer term repairs to avoid this problem happening again in the near future Thanks everyone.
