That makes "theoretical" sense thanks eastanglianbiker. Looking forward to mega's thoughts on this hypothesis

Thanks. According to the cbr125 bike manual. Cooling system capacity is 0.70L (Radiator and engine) and 0.28L (reserve tank), so just under 1L. So does this mean use only 1/20th of the K-Seal bottle?
-
Thanks megawatt, Do you mean 2/3 water to 1 K-seal mix? I couldn't find any figures on this to confirm. I found this from http://www.kseal.com/wp-content/uploads ... l-2013.pdf "Shake the bottle vigorously for 30 seconds and add the entire contents to the radiator or header/expansion tank. If adding to the radiator do not pour directly onto the radiator core. (For very small cooling systems e.g. motorbikes, it is possible to add just part of the bottle but you must make sure that the contents are extremely well mixed first." Would recommend flushing out the cooling fluid after the K-seal has done it's job or just leave it in with the current fluid thats already in there? edit: found this information too from http://www.kseal.com/faqs/ "How much K-Seal do I need? 1 standard bottle of K-Seal (236ml/8floz) will treat cooling systems with a capacity up to 20 litres (this covers motorbikes up to light commercial vehicles). For larger cooling systems use our Heavy Duty (472ml/16floz) size K-Seal." You had the Heavy-Duty bottle 472ml

I found out my local spares places places sells it (236ml) bottle for £10, this seems to be the only size they sell on the net too. Your 0.5l find for £10 was a good find megawatt! For my cbr 125 how much would you suggest I put in? Thanks!

Hi, Thanks Tango and Megawatt, I can find this stuff easily on the net, but that means having to wait until next week to use it. In my quick search I can't seem to find it in Halfords, not sure who else might stock it?
-
I appreciate the advice megawatt, sorry it seems that I may have touched you in places you don't like to be touched and for that I apolgise. I do believe you (why would you lie?). Just looking at all my options that's all.

Just seen advice against this sort of product for bike engines. Concerned that I might cause a bigger problem with the engine. That's great that it worked ok for you though!

If I can find the leak, I wonder if something like this J-B weld would seal it up from the outside of the radiator. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J-B_Weld
-
Seems I do indeed have a leaking radiator, the leak seems to be coming from the top of the radiator, but not from any of the hoses or connectors. My car engine fix would be to put some radweld in, but it seems that is the not advised for bike engines, is this correct? I might have to replace the radiator, with new of 2nd hand rad (if I can find a fully pressure and temperature tested one that is).

Ok, after yesterdays ride looks like I lost some coolant fluid, I am below the min line. The bike manual says use "High quality ethylene glycol antifreeze containing silicate-free corrosion inhibitors". I have some of this stuff for my car http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/ ... =250391358, can I use this or do you guys/girls recommend specific bike coolants? Once I top it up I can run the engine and try to find the leak edit: seems you can get specific bike engine coolants http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sacat ... nt&_sop=15

Good point, this is the first thing I checked after coming back from yesterday's ride before switching the engine off. I noticed some steam coming out between the front forks (not masses of it), but then checked the temp and showing in the middle between min and max (more the cooler side). I have the bike manual now, so will follow the procedures to check the fluids.
-
Ok, tonight I will check the fluid level before running. wipe the bike down. Then run the bike. I am leaning more towards the problem being coolant, hopefully I can find the leak. I will pump the front forks a number of times, wipe clean, inspect and repeat, to see if I can see any residue of oil on the fork. I would like to avoid the "taste" method Doesn't look like it is a very inviting evening for riding the bike
-
I assumed it was fork fluid as it was slightly oily, this could be the properties of the coolant anti-freeze perhaps? Yes, looking at a few vids of fork seal replacements and all the fluids seem to be "red". I will run the engine stationary tonight and see where the leak it coming from.

oh! I would have no realised this http://www.mcnews.com/mcn/technical/200202forkseals.pdf It says you might be able to sand them a little (but it recommends against this!)

Seems I have a leaky from fork on my Honda cbr125, as anyone tried these "seal mates" to help with the problem? When I went for a ride yesterday, I could see "greenish" watery oil dripping on the floor after the ride (assume this is the fork). http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seal-Mate-Too ... 1c2fb28240 Although for a leak as big as this I don't know if this tool is going to do a good enough job at getting rid of the problem. Thanks

Armour vs clothes with Armour
Robik replied to Robik's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
I am new to biking a so far feel really vulnerable!! Used to travelling the roads in a cage on wheels!! Therefore, I really would like to sort out full protection. I have the minimum requirements for riding. Sounds like I may as well purchase protective bike gear rather than just the armour alone. As for leather or textile... Need to decide. Protection is more important to me than comfort and practicality so I guess leather is the way to go. Of course need to consider the cost of all this too. -
Hi all, Ok, I would really like to protect myself on the bike, but not sure which direction to start spending.... Full body armour VS clothes with armour My riding will be purely social/pleasure and not commuting so practically is not too much of a concern. Any advice from the experienced/pros? Thanks

Thanks for the pics!

Congratulations on passing Mod 2!!! By the way if over 21, does passing Mod 1 alone allow you any more biking allowances? Or is it worthless without Mod 2? Thanks

Yes awesome website, I find there stock levels pretty random though.

Is there anything like sharp tests for gloves (and other motorbike gear)? Thanks

Hi all, cbt (check), helmet (check), RST jacket (check)..... now gloves I know what size glove I am, so I can go for anything off the net really. I have been looking around and like everything else, you can spend £10 or £100's, however as I plan to do local and occasional riding I don't really want to spend £100's on gloves. Second hand gloves don't seem to appealing to me (although I did pick up a used jacket). I want something with knuckle and wrist protection. Trying to spend around £20-£25 on the gloves. Any suggestions? Thanks
