  1. Enjoy it while you can! By the time they're teenagers, you'll know nothing, apparently. Read tag line below.
  2. My merc has an auto hold feature: come to stop, engine stops as well by the way, press brake pedal hard and brakes lock on, I assume no brake lights on, then relax until lights change, as soon as I touch the throttle the engine restarts and brakes come off. Easy peasy.
  3. So sorry to hear the news a few minutes ago, only ever exchanged a few posts with him, sorry we never met. Condolences to his family and friends. We all need to be careful out there, especially through winter.

    Hopalong

Mind you, she has been piling the pounds on recently.

Cant really, members club I've been going to since the late 80's, pushed her up the ramp dozens of times before.

Big Ouch last night. Was pushing a friend in her wheelchair up a steeper than average ramp into a club and seriously pulled my calf muscle, but had to push on as couldn't stop halfway up or she'd have rolled back into me out of control. Dog was not impressed with once round the block this morning just for essentials (yes I picked up), hoping stepson can come round tonight and walk him. Was hoping to be back on bike next week as weather improving, and fortunately have 2 days off now but don't think I'd feel confident taking bikes weight on right leg if I get anything extra on it.

    Paris

Not a football fan but watched the pre-match shenanigans on Tuesday. Very moving but probably the worst rendition of la Marsellaises ever.
  8. Back to the original question about bright lights, the car behind you may well have been driving on his daylight driving lights, which is technically illegal in restricted visibility conditions, i.e night, fog or other serious weather conditions, specifically because they are not angled down and will dazzle other drivers. Short of starting a road rage incident by forcing the other driver to stop, you could try taking the number and reporting it to the police, or my personal preference would be to fix a torch or other light to your rear rack operated by a button on the handlebar, and see how he likes it with a beam shining in his eyes.
  9. Easy mistake to make, but you'd have to be pretty dumb to do it twice in six months.
  10. "Bloody typical man" was 'er indoors comment. I think its hilarious.

    New TV

I am on my second Sony, very happy with both although first one wasn't very resistant to a kick from a 13 year old, possible design fault there? Haven't had an LG TV but had a couple of other LG products and had reliability issues with both, now won't have anything from them, which is a shame c'cos some of there stuff looks nice with some nice ideas, but first thing is it has to work every time.
  12. Jesus, I'm knackered just from reading that list! I play bridge.
  13. Stationary means parked, not stuck in a queue. Wouldn't try using that argument on a plod.
  14. Hi, I think it will give a bit after a few wearings, and also as you get used to riding. When I was learning I started sweating walking up to the bike, and I was in a nervous sweat for every ride until a few weeks after I passed - its all about confidence. I'd stick with it for now.
  15. I had this problem because I was trying to look too far round and pulling on the bars as a result. You're only trying to check your blind spot, so dont turn your head too far, thats causing the problem. When turning, head up and look where you want to go.
  16. Bet diesel car sales go through the floor now, and there'll be some cracking deals at the VW group garages this week too.
  17. My son - not the one on here - got on a plane with his passport and managed to get off without it. Big problem as his next flight was to Australia. He phoned passport office from Gatwick, while they were looking for an appointment someone in Liverpool conveniently cancelled theirs fro the following day so Mike grabbed it, came home overnight, Liverpool on Tuesday am, call back at 5 to collect passport job done
  18. Have tried this, sometimes it bumpstarts but if not enough speed or wet roads the rear wheel just locks up instead which isnt fun.
  19. Go find the steepest hill you can find and then try to ride up it in first gear. Any properly running bike will be able to climb any hill you find on UK roads. If you ground to a halt, you either have a sick bike or you were in the wrong gear. or you have eaten too many pies!!! I was unaware there was such a thing as too many pies (or cakes, biscuits, crisps come to that). Thats why Triumph make a 2.3L Rocket.
  20. Bugger! Just realised I've got to work that Saturday. Hope lots of you can go and support our heroes.
  21. Hi all you mechanical brainiacs. I have a problem, and as I'm a ride only biker with my garage on speed dial if anything needs fixing, who else can I turn to for advice on a Sunday? The bike is a BMW1200RT. Its happened occasionally before at the end of a long run, as I let the bike idle, at lights etc, the engine fades away. A bit of throttle as I press the starter and it fires up OK. Today it was worse, several times as I changed down it stalled before I had time to engage a lower gear. Its as if the idle is set too low once its been running for a while - alway happens after at least an hour or two run. Feels very uncomfortable when the engine dies and you're still rolling at 30 or so slowing for a roundabout. Trying to give it some gas and press the starter and brake with one hand is hard, was practically standing on rear brake at times. Not very good just the back brake, is it? Anyone any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks in advance.
  22. Just checked it out but my bikes not suitable!
  23. Even I changed my own battery, and I'm as useless as they come mechanically.
  24. I think the stability problem on the pan was a big fuss about an extreme problem - speedes over 120 with a heavy load on. I love the BMW myself, its 100k lighter than the pan. (thats the 1200rt though)
