  1. When I had my XJ6, I swapped mine for Pilot Road 3's. They're awesome tyres. Wouldn't worry about mixing tyres, that's manufacturer bull*** to make you buy the same tyre again.
  2. Dunno if you have a wiring diagram. The rectifier seems to comprise of a single diode/selenium rectifier. There isn't an awful lot that can go wrong there. stick a multimeter on it if you can to see if it conducts juice one way but not the other. EDIT:- Can't really see how putting the bike in gear could blow the headlight. I'm guessing you are talkin main and dipped beams ? Might want to double check all the connectors around the stator/ignition wiring all connect up properly as the neutral switch seems to be with those wires. Maybe someone pulled wires apart in the past and plugged them back together wrong ? Also worth pulling the diode/rectifier out of the circuit as it looks to me all that should do is stop the battery from charging but still enable the electric to work. I'm guessing the battery is good though and maintains its voltage under load ? http://www.motelek.net/schema/honda/cb50j_at_6V.png
  3. Good call if you've walked to work today. I would definitely get this sorted before riding the bike again as a wheel lockup could mean disaster. If you can get the caliper off, then take that off and see if the wheel is still binding. If it is, it's likely a wheel bearing. If it now spins freely without the caliper attached, it would be a good time to strip and clean and lubricate before reassembling.
  4. Great event last year. Lots of nice bikes to look at and bargain clothing/helmets if you're in the shopping mood. Seems I didn't do my homework with biking dates this year as I'm most likely going to be on a canal boating holiday for the week. If the holiday doesn't happen, I'll be all over this for sure.
  5. Have a great time everyone. I'm sure you'll all have a better time than I will at the gadget show.
  6. Just had the rear fitted today. So far, so good. Look forward to the scrubbing in and Front to be fitted next weekend. Will update thread as more opinion is formed. Paid £169 for front(120/70-17) & rear (190/50-17). Can be purchased on ebay for £138 now though for the pair. Link to manufacturer

    Chain Grease

Thanks. Funny you should mention Gear oil, that's what I applied in the end tempting as the pot of grease looked. Having googled chain grease, a lot of people are saying don't use the white stuff either as it dries out and becomes gooey. All feels good with the new tyre, cleaned and adjusted chain and the back end of the bike looking almost as good as it did when I picked it up 7 months ago.

    Chain Grease

Hi all, Have just done a major back end strip and clean and need to replace the lubrication on my chain. Can I use ordinary grease or do I need something special to put back on my chain ? I seem to recall seeing some white grease in a packet when I've bought a chain before and wondered whether ordinary grease might ruin the o rings.
  9. I will surprise you one day Went to Herne Bay via Seasalter and Whitstabubble today and got fish and chips so I have at least got out on the bike. Unfortunately also discovered a nail in my rear tyre so maybe I'll have everything sorted for the next one if it's a more leisurely one.
  10. Bugger, was thinking I might join in and then realised I've got tickets for the gadget show for the 12th Maybe one day........
  11. Got myself another set on the Saturday and faffed around fitting on the Sunday. £5 off normal price of £29.99 is currently a bargain. Had to butcher the throttle slide with a Stanley knife to get the right hand one fully on as there was an inner and outer lip locating the original grip that were in the way. After a battle getting the wires under the tank (without loosening it), I hooked it into the supply wire to the fusebox for accessories (couldn't find the accessory plug meant to be up front). One wrap of micropore tape on the throttle slide before fitting and no glue needed at all. Throttle side twisted on and clutch side tapped on with a rubber mallet. They work like a treat. Wack them on max to begin with then turn down to three lights once warm. The most noticeable difference is at speed where max is fine but gets too hot once back to normal traffic speed.
  12. im sure alex said somewhere he is running z rated tyres and they are not allowed to be repaired Really ? I have z tyres on my z and have plugged the front one because it picked up a screw slap bang in the middle of the tread. I understood the only thing preventing a hole being repaired is if it wasn't within the middle part of the tyre ?

    knocking clutch?

Fuuny you should say that, my 2 month old Z1000sx sounds a bit noisey until I pull the clutch in. I'll mention it at the second service when it's due in the new year. Sounds just like a worn release bearing.
  14. Should be rolling into Birmingham International around 11:00am if anyone is around and wants to meet up later.
  15. That looks pretty nicely priced. Will bear it in mind when I'm looking at stuff at the bike show on Friday.
  16. It's mainly my legs and hands at the moment. Perhaps heated grips will sort the hands but it seems so much colder this year. Failing that I might just start wearing my skiing gear on my bike. Don't mind a couple of hundred quid as it's easy to pay that for decent clothing anyway and my summer jacket it pretty much wearing out.
  17. Does anyone use heated clothing around here ? It's turned so damn cold in the last few days that it looks like it's something worth considering. If you do own or use such items I'd be interested to know what it is and if it's any good. Thanks.
  18. Went on a weekend last year, wouldn't do it again. If you do, get there as soon as the doors open as by midday the place will be packed
  19. No mate, that was a rideout. I'm the other side of Kent but can get the HS1 to St Pancras in 22 mins. 5 minute brisk walk from St Pancras to Euston then Virgin Train to Birmingham International in 1hr 15mins. Worth the cost to save the aggro from M6 traffic jams and saving cost of fuel in car and car parking. Probably aiming to arrive somewhere around 10:30 ish. Once I've looked up train times.
  20. I got the cheapest going grips from J&S at Motorcycle Live last year. Branded Dr bike with a small black control box with 5 leds and one red button to cycle through the power settings. Have seen the same grips on ebay with different names on but despite being cheap they worked like a charm if not too hot on maximum. Trickiest part about fitting was getting them to stick. Ended up using surgical micropore tape on the throttle side as the glue gave way a couple of times. Didn't need any glue in the end with the right amount of tape underneath them. Word of warning, but wire them to an ignition switched live. If you don't, you will forget to turn them off sooner or later and will then need a battery charge or old fashioned bump start to get on the move again. Missing them so kuch now on the new bike I'll definately be buying some more next week. Easiest way to remove the old grips without cutting off is with a long thin phillips/crosshead screwdriver between old grip and handlebar/throttle slide and slowly turn it while working around the whole circumference of the handlebar. It will break all of the old glue away from the original grips so that they come off fairly easily. These were the ones I got These are exactly the same grips R&G branded for more money. Why pay more ?
  21. If you have money for a holding deposit on a 125 while you hire it, suck it up, book DAS course which includes bike hire and get it done. I'm assuming you have current CBT and a theory pass ? No need for a 125 at all.
  22. Friday 28th for me. Good use of annual leave. Went last year on a weekend and it was far too busy for my liking. I'm hoping there might be some good savings on clothing and I'm after another set of heated grips for the new bike as well. Train for me. I can get from home to NEC in 2 hours if I get the timings right.
  23. Goodluck with the Mod1 retake next week. Hopefully the rain gods will be on your side.
  24. I think maybe we all are End of the day I thought it useful, you think otherwise. I'm sure we both learnt more from taking it than those that might like to aimlessly try this clicking 'Trick'.
