  1. Totally agree with the above. I've had new clothing and I've second hand, leathers and textiles. All are fine. When it is damper I tend to wear textiles for better protection from the elements but leather during hot sunny days. You can get a nice wax to treat your leathers (Duckwax) and make them waterproof but then I find that they are too hot on sunny days. I always treat my boots though! Hate wet feet!

As for helmets, 100% agree get new. don't risk second hand. I have always used LS2. A friend once told me that generally the more you spend on gear, the better quality or protection you get. This is not the case with helmets according to this mate. According to matey, £200ish and over is for show! Don't know if he is right but I have never got near that!

What ever you go for, enjoy.

  2. I think s-westerly meant who was he to be so important that he would say, do you know who I am!

Ohhh yeah I have no idea, certainly not Ronnie Pickering....

    He might have been Alice.......

Who the f*ck is Alice? But then you knew that was coming didn't you?

  3. On the way to work I called into Tesco. Coming out is a ONE WAY and a car driving into the car park against the flow of traffic. On the bike so have little option but to pull alongside her and tell her that it is a ONE WAY!

I think she said, 'Oh, terribly sorry old chap. I'll turn around and go in the correct way.' but through my helmet the muffed tones sounded like, 'I only want to go one way so wind your f***ing neck in you pr*ck'.

Car following me and stopped in front of her and switched off his engine, got out of the car and sat on bonnet reading his newspaper.

She was f**king livid! what a wonderful morning!

  4. I moved to Pontypool

There is your answer .. a right shite hole of shite holes ..

Also Newport is not that far away .

I know Newport is not far away but the comparison between my old place and where I live now is unbelievable.

  5. Insurance is generally governed by statistics, and if you look at the stats a 125cc motorcyle is at greater risk of being stolen than a larger cc one, people tend to cherish the larger bikes and give them better security, 125's are on the whole a stop gap and not usually as cherished, therefore security is at best basic and quite easily bypassed, therefore premiums are higher, and highest of all in the crime hotspots, London being the major one, but most cities will have a high percentage of bike related thefts compared to minor villages out in the sticks, but until as such time as these thieving scum are sentenced appropriately and made to pay properly, it will only continue to get worse

Now oddly, I moved from an area of Bristol called Lawrence Weston. Now if any of you know Bristol at all you'll know that this has one of the highest numbers for bike theft and burn outs etc in the region- minimum one or two a week. My bike insurance there while being parked on a driveway and covered and chained to a wall was about £125 comprehensive. I moved to Pontypool in January and my partner being a member of the local constabulary did a check and discovered that there had been no vehicle thefts or damage in the previous 3 months at all. ZERO! My bike insurance increased to £160 and was parked on the driveway and covered. There is no logic to some of these quotes!

  6. When I moved my insurance went down and mcn sent me a refund which was nice. Swings and roundabouts.

Now that's the odd thing ... I moved in January from a high crime area ... cars burnt out regularly and bikes nicked by the dozen to a quiet area where crime was virtually non existent and my car insurance went up 25% and bike a tenner! My partner works for the police so she was able to check bike and car thefts for me and found ZERO thefts or damage in the previous 3 months in my new place against 3 figure values per month in my old place!

  7. I've just had a whopping £78 per annum knocked off my premium on the Harley . No idea why but I ain't complaining . Thank you Swinton . Sorry , not helping .

How do you do it, Bob? Mine never goes down! I even took the IAM test and it went up even more!

  8. Yes, because the more you sell of an item the further it goes up the 'best match' (default search setting) suggested list. If they end the listing for no stock and then restart it again when they get more in they go back to the bottom.

Ah ... crafty. Can understand the logic though.

  9. I bought a van in Inverness and booked it in for an mot 240miles away, yes it's legal but prob a very thin argument and no defence if a vehicle is found to have defects

From the Ask The Police website...

The law makes no mention as to how far you can go for an MOT but we would suggest the distance is kept as short as possible because even though you are exempt from having a valid MOT certificate in the circumstances described above, if you are stopped by the police you could still be prosecuted for any defective parts on your vehicle e.g. exhaust, brakes and tyres etc. If you call in at shops etc. on your way to the MOT, it may be held that you are using the vehicle for other purposes and the above exemption won't apply. The further you travel the more likelihood there is of your vehicle triggering an ANPR camera and you being stopped.

That's fair enough. To be honest, any defect MOT'd or not is liable for prosecution and rightly so. I am not aware of any problems with it anymore than I would be if it had a ticket on it.

  10. What's wrong with the nearest one ? They all examine to the same standard . You must have something dodgy to hide if you're prepared to do a 90 mile round trip . 😕

Absolutely nothing doggy to hide at all Bob. This garage has done everything on my bikes since I been riding and I prefer to stay with people I know and trust. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Bit unfair to assume I'm dodgy to be honest!

  11. As long as you book it in with the garage you’ll be ok , I’ve not heard it had to be booked in at nearest station to you .

Thanks Six ... It was more to do with the distance. I live in Pontypool now and my trusted garage is in Bristol. Thought the plod might assume i'm taking the piss or something!

Couple of lads from my homeland so they are and on more than one occasion they have made minor repairs and passed with no additional charge to be sure to be sure!

  12. Guys, I have just discovered that my MOT has expired. I thought it was good until October! My mistake but nevertheless, I have to get it tested. Now I know that I can book it in for a test and ride it to the garage but there is one place that I always take it to and the only place I truly trust and am comfortable with. The problem is that since I have moved, it is now 45 miles away.

Is that a stretch or will the law still accept it?? It will be booked in and I will be taking it directly to the garage.

  13. This looks brilliant, I'm going to give this one a try, I'd never heard of it till now .... Thanks for posting :thumb:

if you are using it on plastic lens you can use fine 2000 grit wet and dry paper with lots of water to remove the caked on crap. After this the lens will be hazed up. This stuff returns the clear look. As you said though, UV top coat is a must.

  14. This looks brilliant, I'm going to give this one a try, I'd never heard of it till now .... Thanks for posting :thumb:

You're welcome. I hadn't heard of it either. When my mate suggested it I thought yeah right another crap waste of money product but for a fiver I thought I'd give it a go. Like I said, the pic doesn't really do it justice. I was amazed!

  15. Interesting post.

I've been thinking about getting something like that for my clk.....one of the lights looks brand new, the other looks 100 years old.

Done loads of searches on this - toothpaste only works if it has bicarb in it .

The important thing I learned is that you need to spray the lenses with UV resistant clear lacquer afterwards, otherwise they go manky again pretty quickly.

Yes you have to UV spray or you're wasting your time.

  16. Looks like good stuff, bought some stuff from Halfords a few years ago I can’t remember the brand, it did a good job but within a few weeks the lights were the same again hope this stuff actually lasts.

    I'll let you know!

  17. I often hear people ask what is the best thing to improve faded or sun damaged headlamps. Like many people I have tried the toothpaste tricks and all the expensive polishes and formulas. Last weekend a mate suggested this scratch remover stuff. Jesus H Christ! I am impressed. The headlamp in the picture has been polished on the left side with a dab of this stuff on a microfibre cloth for about 2 minutes. Right hand side untouched. The picture doesn't really do it justice! At the weekend I shall spend a bit more time and give it a proper working. I am impressed with this so far though. The best part? It cost £5 and the tube will last longer than the car.
