  1. Doctor's receptionists.

Do they have to undergo special training to learn how to be deliberately awkward, or is it just a power trip with them?

I get super frustrated with doctor's receptionists.

I'm finding it difficult to breath so I ring the doctor. 'Is it an emergency?'

If I knew that I'd be the fecking doctor!

Many years ago, about 30 or more, I witnessed a poor man having a heart attack in the surgery waiting room while the receptionist could only offer assurances that she'd told the doctor and that he wont be much longer! Three or four minutes passed before the doctor ambled out, saw the poor guy and immediately shouted for receptionist to call 999. He publicly made it very clear that she should have relayed his condition better. No idea what info she relayed to the doctor but it was obviously not sufficient. I didn't see that receptionist after that.

  2. Who'd be a teacher .... You can discipline the shites no more .

I teach math's GCSE and A level. It is more difficult than many people realise. Students walk out of class because they can; fail to turn up because they can; sit on their phone and even swearing, shouting abuse at teachers because they can.

When I say 'because they can' I really mean because we can do nothing to stop them. I am not allowed to remove them from the classroom; if they do not turn up, it's my fault; if they turn up but leave early, it's my fault; hell, if they swear at me, it's my fault. I once accidentally touched the back of one girl's head with my elbow and she screamed 'pervert' at me and reported me! Nothing came of it but that's not the point! Parents have relinquished disciplinary responsibility but in many cases it's because they are no longer allowed to discipline either.

Education should start at home and basic number theory is a given. I once had a student whom when asked 'what is eleven subtract three', reached for her calculator!

And don't get me started on the 'look how many holidays we get!' I teach in a college now and I get none of the normal half term and long summer break as holiday. I book holiday time during non term time seven weeks a year but start at 7:30 in the morning and am often preparing or marking till midnight. I m a qualified teacher so earn a reasonable salary but it isn't the 'walk in the park' many think it is.

  3. Went for American style as was previously forever running out of freezer space, now that all my frozen goods have been binned/cooked it looks extremely pitiful with just an ice tray sitting in it.

    Fill it full of vodka!

Absolutely, then on a warm day fill a SMALL glass of coke and LOTS of ice cubes and enjoy. No one will ever know!

  4. Hay Phooey! Long time no see.

If you know me then you must be a reincarnation of someone I used to know! Your profile says you joined last month. I've not been on here for a year! lol Something familiar abut your username though! lol

  5. All these comings and goings. I thought I'd stick my nose in, sorry not been around for while, and I barely recognise half the names!

You should recognise me ... Oh wait, I've changed my user name... :D

    Good to see you again.

lol ... yes I definitely recognise your old name ... ;)

  6. Give priority means exactly that. The opposing vehicle has the right to go first! There is nothing in the highway code, at least not that I can recall, which says that the opposing traffic MUST go first!

I can't see how they could fine for this.

We approach junctions and are often waved or flashed out ... traffic on the major road has the priority but nothing says they MUST go before me.

The red Mandatory circle sign is what says you must give priority....

I agree with the order Tim. Must give priority but my argument is that if they give up that right there is nothing in the code to say that they HAVE to go first.

  8. I've never been one for stupid speeds like this on motorways although I would be a liar to say that I have never been guilty of speeding (slightly over the limit). I can say though that I have never been guilty of putting other road users at risk by my reckless antics. He was dangerous pulling wheelies at 120MPH, he was probably reckless going into the back of the taxi hence the dangerous driving investigation so he deserved everything that he got.

I am somewhat biased I supposed because I have only just got back on the road following a 10 month recovery because of a SMIDSY. You cause a problem ... you pay for it.

  9. Nearly there ... I have discovered that my bike was a CAT N write off. Now that it is almost ready to ride again, I did some investigating and discovered that it does not require a VIC inspection nor MOT but I shall get the MOT for my piece of mind.

I cannot find any info regarding notification of being put back on the road to the DVLA though. Can anyone verify either way?

Also, in your experience does a CAT N (previously CAT D) increase insurance much?

  10. Thanks guys ... I'll follow all this up.

Incidently, I have received no paperwork at all from the insurers. They didn't even see the bike just photo's... the damage was cracked fairing and smashed twin lights with a scuff or two around the rest of the bike. They made a judgement and paid out allowing me to keep the bike. It never left my home since a mate recovered it the same day as the accident. I was too busy enjoying morphine and having my tibea rebuilt with bionic parts! lol

EDIT: That site was interesting. I didn't tell DVLA it was written off! I asumed the insurance company would have done that as a matter of protocol!
