  1. do whatever you think needs doing now the plates are out i only mess with old bikes some that have stood for 30+ years so for future reference, the clutch plates will start to stick if a bike is unused after a relitivly short time so here is a trick that will work 99.9% of the time key off ,pull clutch select 1st gear rock the bike against the compression with the clutch pulled in sometimes it will free in 6-8 rocks other times or stubborn one and may take 40-50 times but they nearly all free if your persistent =
  2. just wondering if the V.M.C.C could help or maybe the BSA owners club dont want to put a downer on it but during the mid sixties most of the brits ended up with the scrapman as the japs were starting to appear, hope your successful
  3. Thanks for the PM, glad you took the advice mart ,those guys on there really know their stuff ,careful of offers for tempting on the road trades remember you have a genuine piece of motorbike history ,stick with it however long it takes ,if it were mine i would keep it as a oily rag racer got a great contact who hand makes alloy tanks when your ready ,had a couple made myself his workmanship is excellent and wont break the bank ,original LYTAs are fetching £800 + ATM, looking at the high res pics unfortunately doesn't have the double damper conversion again if you go that route further down the line i have all the parts required including a super rare original Taylor Dow Superleggera 1950s race top yolk i will be following this on britbike and look forward to seeing it back to its former glory.
  4. firstly better than a lotto win greatest bike of all time IMO looks to have some nice race parts on it hard to tell by the pics but looks like a taylor dow yolk so its probably got the double damping conversion, GP carb???? the tank looks to be fiberglass if so swap for alloy as it will never hold fuel no matter what you line it with,as for the engine recommition it yourself mate they are really easy to work on get your advice from http://www.britbike.com/forums/ubbthreads.php with the right race history circa 20k finished........... here to help if needed
  5. stand springs are a pain anchor it to the frame end and use a good cable tie to secure it so if it slips off it wont become a missile ,then place a strong long flat head screwdriver though the eye-let to use as a lever put the flat edge of the driver onto the peg of the stand and lever it towards the peg as it stretches it will slip the spring down the screwdriver as it reaches the retaining peg wangle it so it slips over, probably will take a couple of attempts but you will get there make sure the stand is up ...less tension on the spring

  13. BSA 1969 A50R cafe racer started building it end of 2011 on the road this summer just tweaking it now replicated the Taylor Dow double damping race conversion front end what a headache that was but rides well one off goldie rep alloy tank and one off alloy clubman lighting seat unit one off front end using late 50s taylor dow superleggera top yolk akront motad flanged wheels tomasselli 1970 clip ons tomasselli 1963 matador levers triton rearsets maybe a SRM 750 big bore kit this winter but maybe not as it pulls and runs spot on as is finding it hard to justify the out lay hope you like http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/uu333/bt1100/WP_20131024_002_zps99eec38a.jpg http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/uu333/bt1100/WP_20131023_010_zps0e89fe0b.jpg http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/uu333/bt1100/2731726f-315a-4a16-bb21-738eabe28be2_zpsd88272e2.jpg
