  1. Oil is thinner when hot than cold fact! The oil grade is measured in two different ways, the first part for example 10w refers to the time a given amount of oil takes to drain through a given size hole, put simply a funnel. The second part, for example ‘40’ is measure using what can be described as a plastic pan with a bit of metal in the bottom, and an electro magnet on the underside of the pan, the current in the magnet is increased until it moves the metal fragment through the oil. The whole warm up thing is partly mechanical sympathy from old like a lot of things, the manufacturer says to use a 10w oil because at the given temp range that grade of oil will flow though all oil galleries at the correct oil pressure to avoid mechanical failure or premature wear, but when hot will not drop oil pressure to unsafe levels. And at the top of the scale the oil will remain the correct viscosity to lubricate and protect also That aside the minefield isn’t what grade of oil you use as such because you will see that grade changes with temp range of climate but more the devil is in the api ratings, additives, friction enhancers and such like and that’s where your manufacturer recommendations really count
  2. Deal wise now, also you can get to grips with it over the winter then come dry roads in spring will all be worth it
  3. Crikey, what a word for so late on a Saturday. ps why isn't dryness built into the highway code? Dam auto correct haha, although could be perfect Saturday night tired and drunk writing haha ‘Stupidity’
  4. Sorry to hear this, what people do on the roads is utterly ridiculous. When taking my hgv lessons I was amazed at what you can fail for when it comes to other road users, unfortunatly aridity isn’t built into the Highway Code. Best of luck for your next test sounds like you have it under control and have that experience under your belt
  5. I feel your pin, have a zx6r which had serious carb issues, almost ironed out but have a couple more bits to do before I can tune correctly, try wemoto they will have them but they are not the cheapest of rubbers in the world I found Good luck
  6. I bought a 1999 zx6r in March this year as a non runner for £550 got it through mot and hey presto that’s my winter bike and it is great. The gsxr 1000 I wanted to keep clean and miles down so the zx is a sports bike but lower pegs and higher bars so more comfy and forgiving in the rubbish weather (and in the plus side too a great lil track bike for the summer so all year round use) You can pick them up sub a grand
  7. I had the hot grips on my last bike and could easily use 100% but I wore summer gloves all year round Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  8. Summer gear on a budget is shorts vest and flip flops, all in asda less than 20 quid lol Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  9. I have both and usually default to 2 piece that zips together, because it has more pockets and I can take off jacket, however come long blasts in the summer with my mates I'll stick the suit on or for track days Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  10. Watching the highlights at the min only half way through and my hate for Marquez has peaked! Who does he think he is and what the hell is he playing at Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  11. Out of curiosity, do you think your bike is actually performing badly as a result ? It's not been running right no, and that's the only thing I found in the carbs that is not right. It's been hanging revs, bogging down, coughing back through intake. So now carbs are synced, cleaned, fuel drained, filter cleaned and fresh fuel in so if it's no good tomos then I'll change the diaphrams Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  12. Cheers for the links people, I've had a look at them all and got the prices. I'm picking up a wrecked bike soon that aside from forks frame and fairings all else is a 21k mile bike for parts, including some decent diaphrams hopefully. I've cleaned the carbs and got it all back together just got back from the workshop bikes running ok so gonna see how it starts and rides tomorrow, when cold starting Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  13. But without them your bike is a pile of c**p. How much is your bike worth to you? Not much, it's only a second bike that I have got for a few hundred quid to get manky in the winter so I can keep my other bike nice and clean, so have all summer to get it going right Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  14. Tell me about it lol Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  15. I not even thought of m and p. Looked at wemoto but no joy. Thanks that link is good I have found them on there but wow how much, 125 quid for 4 bits of rubber Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  16. I'm looking for somewhere to buy the diaphrams for the carbs on my zx6r g2. I took my carbs apart fully today and all my vaccume diaphrams have gone baggy or wrinkled. Can't find them anywhere, anyone know where to look? Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  17. Shame your so far away would be worth a gander in that treasure trove Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  18. Recorded it and halfway through it now, but is it just me or does anyone else get frustrated at his riding style? Hanging off the bike when he is barely going round a corner Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  19. A young whipper snapper on a suzuki on the top step..... I'll take that over Leon Haslam riding backwards on the opening of his campaign (going to be another one of those years for my support) Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  20. I didn't remove the vaccume chamber on top. The throttle is snapping back nicely too. Had a small development, I'm hardly getting any time on it at the min but I'm waiting for some balance gauges but I crudely synced the carbs with a small drill bit then adjusted mixture screws and got the bike running almost sweet. Should have the gauges within the next few days then I can do it properly Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  21. The mixing was 325ml to at least 20 litre fuel so I used approx 250ml for about 17 litre Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  22. I have just been racking my brain and trying to work out what I did before it started hanging revs. I remembered I tried the cheat and put wynns fuel system cleaner in the fuel day before yesterday. After I let it cool down completely then started it up is when it started hanging the revs. Do you think this has leaned out the fuel, maybe diluting it down? Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  23. Hanging as in you rev the throttle and it revs to 5k for example, stays there then slowly falls to idle again. The mixture screw is the only screw I messed with and I put that back to 3 turns out. So wd40 will make it bog down will it? Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  24. Hey people, still getting the zx6r sorted and aside from wheel bearings to do I have a problem with the carbs. I took them off today and gave a clean due to running poor at low revs and also the revs dropping slowly. So I had them off, float bowls off, pilot jets cleaned, pilot screws cleaned, main jet cleaned then back together. When it started it ran better low down revs but the revs are still hanging. I have sprayed carb cleaner round all the boots and vac lines and the revs don't pick up at all so I have ruled out vac leak but what other reasons could there be? Any advice would be appreciated, Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  25. I missed the live one and called the other half to record the highlight show this afternoon otherwise I would have caught the race lol Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
