    annoying chain !

You shouldnt tighten it on the paddock stand really, I never did on the old CBR125. Sit on it and the properties of the chain change again and it will be more loose or tight. Find which it is as if its been getting too tight then it will just stretch like a air balloon in space. The thin, bicycle chains 125s use only last 8000 miles or so tops. I saw a Varadero get to 10,000 but even that had a chain half the size of the one on my 650.
  2. Take the carbs off, remove the bowls and hey presto there is your floats. If they are the problem you will notice they are filled with petrol and that indicates they are nackered and need replacing. Or the float piston, which blocks off the valve letting petrol get out is gummed up and no working. Check these if its a persisting problem with the fuel set in anything but off

    Suspension problem!

When you push down and compress it does it feel like its hitting something? Or is it just slowing down and the fluid stops it travelling any further? Did you measure out the exact right amount of fork oil to go in?
  4. I pushed this close to the wire, I had to have an operation on Saturday to fix my sense of smell and I can't ride until this monday coming at least If one little thing went wrong or I got an infection I wouldnt be going Looking forward to it now. Should be a blast
  5. Haynes comes with a lot more pictures and explanation on HOW to service the bike though Also its better layed out and easy to understand. Though if you get to a 5 spanner job... The only repair possible is to buy a grenade, plant it on your bike in the middle of the woods, pull the pin and run.
  6. http://89.206.185.119/images/product/product/bik_aura-hl-fairing_blk.jpg This was on demon tweeks. I think it will suit your bike
  7. I thought it was a case of: Take reservoir cap off Take caliper off Take support bolt out Pads drop out Clean what you can see of the pistons with brake fluid and an old tooth brush (dont use the tooth brush again ) Piece of wood and G-clamps. Tighten equally to push the pistons back in New pads in Mount caliper back on the disc etc Pump the brake until they bite and top up the reservoir as needed. Simplez! Though if the fluid is orange do bleed it through. Piece of pipe over the bleed nipple. Pump the brake lever a few times and on the last one hold it right in and open the bleed valve. Close and rinse and repeat topping up as you go. I've done this on so many bikes it actually just becomes tedious after a while
  8. Also that clicking sound may mean your starter is packing in or battery is. Get both replaced!
  9. Reference pwease : ) http://www.indexmundi.com/energy.aspx?c ... onsumption This shows the UK motor fuel going down per year http://www.indexmundi.com/energy.aspx?r ... onsumption This shows the European UK motor fuel going down per year for even longer I havent got up to date stats for North America that cover the major crash in their economy, which made petrol prices rocket over their and we had a spell of cheap fuel while they were buggered. But if I see them and I know they had a record low that hasn't recovered seeing as poverty over there has worsened then I will add them Edit - It was also heard on BBC2 today, the UK looks set for its steepest drop yet due to the heightening prices all round for motoring.
  10. I have a copy, most of it is common sense and logic. I've ridden motorbikes on the road for the last 5 years, holding a full license for most of that as they've always been my primary way of getting around. I have a car license and had it for 3 years. What I've learned from driving both is very valuable and the book just reinforces things for me. When I read it saying every collision can be avoided, obviously this is only true if BOTH sides take the same view point. As said, utopian. Motorbikes are often subject to the other sides negligence. It obviously doesnt teach you in depth everything but it gives you the know how to riding safely.
  11. How do we know what is too fast and what isnt? We all have different perceptions. If I could have my own way right now it would be to take down the 50mph average camera zones on the M1 to protect a workforce thats not there day or night. And in the last 2 years have done nothing. I refuse to use it now, I will not slow so I take the A5 when I need to use to M1 to get anywhere, especially northampton etc. As for global warming. It can kiss my arse, more proof it doesnt exist. Remember the fuss about that tear in the Ozone layer? It will be repaired by 2045 if you read the scientific reports tracing whats happening. The world now uses less and less fuel every year and is finding cleaner ways of doing things. We'll be laughing about it in a couple of hundred years.
  12. I will cruise around at speed limit when appropriate I often accelerate outside of the speed limit when riding alone on a road with no one around. As long as its safe to do so of course. In a residential area I am cruising gently at the limit. If theres anyone im putting at risk i want it just to be myself. As for those stats, I doubt 85% are lawful. But to the OP your second option in the poll, which is accumulating the most votes I would suggest that applies the most to the driving population. Its a bit too strict, as we all have times when we go over the limit for whatever reason.
  13. Measure them out, wemoto has the measurements for sprockets. Try and find a set that way?
  14. Id attach a digital temp sensor read out on the dash and have it along side a fan switch. Work out from day to day use where performance starts to suffer due to engine heat and then flick it on when you need to. And wire it through the ignition so that it switches off automatically when you turn the bike off. I like bodge jobs Though if there was a way of measuring oil temp then you could use that to flick at fan on when it hits 100 degrees like some bikes. My RR used to flick at 106 and hit the fan on.
  15. Get some matt black paint on it and you'll be good
  16. Why not just put it somewhere where its got plenty of air flow and then build a small low voltage computer fan or similar onto it. That might keep the temp down... Or get one with a heat sink, thats probably easier i just thought my idea was cool
  17. Top man, the weather is alright today so will you be cracking on? I am new to this acid treating business and will keep it in mind when I do my own projects. It also seems a good method of cleaning a bike up after a good few years use!

    no power in 4th

Does it work fine in all other gears? Can it get above 4th and then pull? Is the gear selecting properly? Is it slipping in differently to other gears? Or alternatively your fuel injection could be up the shitter in which case you will be needing a new ECU. Or we could get really simple if the answer to my first question is no... How loose is the chain? How dry is the chain. Tell me in CM how loose the chain is.
  19. Check that the starter motor isnt all gummed up and things like that to rule that out! Then if that isnt the case then swap out the starter relay/solenoid and then look into things like the HT leads and as stu above says just check the spark plugs... I wouldnt imagine its the spark plugs if it was running for a while. How did the problem develop and how was the bike being ridden before? (As in regularity)
  20. What a beautiful machine for a 125! I thought the YZF would be top dog for a while longer but it looks like theres a direct rival to it now I reckon I will go and have a go on one, I need a bike to get around and that might be the cheap solution to doing it running wise. I've heard its a good price for what is frankly an over engineered 125. Good choice
  21. Was it in the centre of the tread? I can reccomend a great puncture repair which lasted 3000 miles before the bike got nicked This was on my 600rr. Another day... Another pay day but I have loads of bills to pay again so f**k it!

    Bandit or hornet

spare parts and modifications for the bandits, so it's easier to make one your own, and you can almost fit anything from any other bike to it. On average (and I'll admit prices dip and rise a fair bit) the bandit is about 400 to 600 pound cheaper than a hornet of the same age and condition. I bought a 1999 mk1 b6 for £750 and all it really needed was new rubber. It was/is in great condition with absolutely no rust, with just 13k miles on the clocks and came with a whole bunch of accessories. Wouldnt be too sure, the Hornet was a streetfighter bike that really stirred it up a bit and being a Honda its as good at 33k miles as it is at 13k miles with half decent looking after! And the range of parts for the Hornet look after a quick glance on google as ample as they are for the bandit! I think they are both the same but there are big differences in the actual bike. The bandit is a budget bike, you get what you pay for but you can mod the hell out of it. I personally hate their soft suspension and would take the hornet any day for its better engine, suspension and brakes. But im a bloke who loves the quality of the ride and not how i look as i ride!

    to much oil???

I have the Haynes manuals for one of these bikes in my book collection. He speaks the truth! And did you use the right oil? Also I remember my cbr having gear changing issues!
  24. That sounds very harsh... how would I know when 10 yards away from a car it would swerve at me? The police report from the CCTV attained in my crash said it was a unavoidable incident for me so surely that logic there is flawed right away? For instance, I ride along normally and someone speeds up behind me and hits me. I would expect looking in my mirrors he will slow or overtake me and I cant speed up or I break the law. How do I avoid things like that? Im lost... Or have you written than to read that there are things to stop us colliding with say a brick wall as that holds true but even then the only solution to some incidents is just to stay at home! I have read the stats and things, the two age groups that have the highest collision rate are young people below 25 and hold people above a certain age. Basically you are over confident and ask for trouble in youth and in old age you can't keep up with whats going on! Thankfully my premiums are low for my age as ive built up 5 years of good honest riding with MCE. But! So lets get back on topic please! Enough silly opinionated banter for one day me thinks... Take it to pm if it bothers you that much
  25. f**k it... The buses in my area leave diesel on the ground. Its raining and I went over it coming out of a roundabout. I held it, and I always seem to be capable of keeping the bike rubber side down but f**k it... I just cant be bothered with having to do this all the time because some arse overfilled their tank or its just badly made, or badly maintained. Whatever! The bike is my only way around. I stepped down off a supersports to try and stop this happening but it just happens. No throttle, no brakes, corner gently... Patch of diesel... And woop going sideways. Just irritated by it now so f**k it
