  1. If the weather is ok, I'll make a day visit of it on the 2nd and say hello. I can't stay the night as I've got a work thing on the Friday evening and a family thing on the Sunday, so hopefully it will be dry!
  2. I'm a big fan of the original chocolate bourbon and dark chocolate digestives. And a Tunnocks caramel wafer, both milk or dark chocolate is good. They are my top 3 for "classic tea/coffee biscuits". More modern and Jaffa cakes are the undisputed king. Jammie dodgers following up in second, and crunch creams edges out Le petite Chocolat for third. Unfortunately, I think you can count on both hands and feet how many biscuits I eat a year. I'm into a lot of active things, and rock climbing/hiking is crap when you have heart burn
  3. Junction 20 and 19 are real hotspots for accidents, and it's because of muppets like that who treat it like a game of frogger. I live nearby it, and whenever I travel for work I try my best to be clear of that area before the rush starts because of the quality of driving.
  4. Maybe for some, for me it's got way too many adult responsibilities I'm getting to a good height in my career, but the vast majority of my earnings are going into paying off the mortgage to try and move into a bigger place as the mrs wants kids in the next few years. Which brings all sorts of things with it, like family car, do we get married, etc. So this year, and every year onwards looks to have an escalating potential to get very expensive. However, I sometimes walk by the Ducati garage near me, and a devil appears on my shoulder that suggests I could get a Panigale 955.
  5. Cheers chaps! Unfortunately I've been working all day, and now waiting for my girlfriend to get home to tuck into some cake. I have a BBQ planned for Saturday with family/friends, and then I'm on a hike on Monday. Not much, but 33 isn't a big year to celebrate Fingers crossed some parts for one of my project bikes arrives this week, and I can get a Sunday in the garage.
  6. When you turn on the lights, does the backlights on the dash illuminate? Sounds a bit like a fuse popped.
  7. I did a couple of years of BJJ when I was a teenager, and we'd compete with the other disciplines including Judo. I didn't find them so bad, but the karate guys were lethal! I used to do some boxing but I had surgery to fix a bust nose, and told it won't survive a big knock due to scar tissue. For me it's the kick boxers, the force that goes through their shins in some of the kicks just boggles my mind. It looks like they should just snap, and when they do it knocks me ill
  8. It would probably be a good idea just in general, in case I ever seriously upset his daughter. Fortunately at 4, going on 5 years there's never been cause... Yet... It's the Japanese variety, or at least I think it is. A lot of wrist locking and throwing moves. From what I know, which is very limited, BJJ is more brutal, a lot harder on the groundwork side.
  9. That could make Christmas dinners with family a bit awkward And their dad is a 3rd Dan in Ju-Jitsu, and takes me for training once a week, which could end with some of my joints being “accidentally” displaced
  10. I've heard this is only for French helmets, but I read a couple of stories on other groups from those who say they faced small on the spot fines, which led to me playing it safe. But who knows, could just be coppers trying their luck?
  11. I think you are meant to have reflective strips on your helmet, and sorted it out on my last trip... And then didn't see a single rozzer.
  12. The Aprilia RS660 is a twin that keeps pace with the 600cc inline 4's of old. Its midrange makes it a power house on tight tracks. I'm hoping the Yamaha R7 will close the gap a bit. And Kawasaki ditch that agricultural sounding 650, for a cross-plane. I think there is a market for super twin type bikes. They aren't V-twins anymore, which is a shame, but a cross-plane inline twin is close enough. But agree with the sentiments on the broader market. The selection just isn't there anymore. It's all aimed at an older demographic, who want something comfy.
  13. I read your description, and in my mind you've just described a Honda CX650 turbo. Unfortunately it doesn't have cruise control, and it's on the heavier side, but maybe an adjustable throttle lock could make up the difference?
  14. Good morning, Got my brother over this weekend, and girlfriend is coming home from the Isle of Wight, so my peace is about to be disrupted. Had a funny little drama early in the week, an old girlfriend messaged to say she was in town for work, and suggested meeting up. If it was a coffee, I've done that before with someone else as it's public so no chance of wrong ideas/gossip, and usually they are all wifed up with someone else. But this one has tried to meet up in the past, and been a bit flirty when I had agreed, leading to me politely backing out, so I did the same here. Told my girlfriend who I thought would find it funny like the previous times, but she went defcon 3 that she'd done it again. Her twin sister found it funny. As she soothed, I reminded her that she told me anything like this is best to be fed back when it happens, and I'm sure she would do the same in my boat... A very telling silence followed, at which point I found out she'd had a guy she went on a single date with years back in her messages all week after he saw her out with friends. I said "oh, so one rule for thee, but not for me?" She said "I was going to tell you when I was back". Her twin sister found it funny
  15. Treat it like any other illness now, recover at home, try not to spread it about. This new descendant of Omicron is spreading about a bit at the moment, but it seems each new iteration is just edging closer to something more benign than a cold. And I saythis as someone who had the original strain, which left me struggling for breath on the sofa for 4 days, and long covid for about 9 months after. That sucked. I wouldn't worry unless we see a sharp spike in hospital cases going up, suggesting something new and nasty is about.
  16. Good morning Had a long weekend in Anglesey with a friend who came up from London, but it has thrown my body clock into a weird place. I was at Jui-Jitsu training with my girlfriends dad last night, and my brain was telling me it was midnight at 8pm. Which would be fine, but I'm waking up super early with 4-5 hours sleep It's going to be a long rest of the week.
  17. Good afternoon, Got a friend coming up from London to stay the weekend, which should be good if the weather holds up. We did our apprenticeship together back in 2010, and were fairly inseparable for a time when I lived down there. I got him into bikes within 2 weeks of meeting, and sold him more than one. And he was there when my CBR600RR was pinched, and saw the pain hit me as reality of what had happened sank in up close and personal I still miss that bike. I daren't own another one though as the thieves are out in force around Manchester now.
  18. I forgot, this is the combined system My old Blackbirds had these, and it was a nightmare. Had to bleed the two nipples per caliper in the right order, and that didn't stop air bubbles forming in the master cylinders that were local to the calipers. You had to unbolt it and move it around to try and get any bubbles to shift otherwise you forever had a spongey lever. I eventually converted it into a conventional system, but you have to be careful as some MOT testers will fail a combined braking system that doesn't behave as specified, even if the conventional setup is fine. Fortunately, the Blackbird didn't have a note against it on the system. The tester said I was very lucky, as I'd been daft and not checked this first.
  19. There's something really satisfying, but also painful about bodywork. It takes an age to get it right, but it looks so good when it is done with patience
  20. I had a vote on another group and option 2 won. Which I didn't expect, and was partly looking forward to making some street fighter bits. And breaking out the fibreglass kit. I will do an update when I can, I've stripped the bike back quite a bit. I also got very lucky and bought a frame with a V5 from the same year, and only 2000 miles less showing on the last MOT. The engine had a rattle, which was just the cam chain tensioner, but it feels a bit lumpy. I ordered a full set of bearings to rebuild the engine, but they are long lead items (6-8 weeks). Fortunately parts are cheap, so I've ordered quite a bit, and got a new old stock fuel tank, and a couple of fairings that were in mint condition. It's going to be blue at the end of this process. I'm about £800 into it so far, and trying to keep it below £1500 as that's where the resale value likely will be. I'm a bit uneasy with selling it, as I worry some yobbo will buy it and thrash the living daylights out of it. I remember being 17, and you could really tell the difference between those who paid for their bikes and the maintenance, and those that had the bank of mum and dad. It was really reflected in the condition of the bike after 6 months!
  21. Would have explained a few things, and it was near my local which serves Aspall cider on tap, and is the only one I know that does!
  22. Some (I'm guessing drunk) guy tried to make trouble as I walked into town last night to pick up a couple of bits. Walking towards each other. About 50 yards away he zig zags, and then makes a very sudden change of direction to go head on at me, and I carry on walking kerb side as I didn't know if it was intentional or a drunk stagger. It was only the last second where I cottoned on, and thought he was going to shoulder barge me. I didn't really have time to decide what to do, but he in the last step moved and only skimmed me. I went back to thinking he was drunk, then I hear shouting and take a headphone out and turn. He was standing in the middle of the road, blocking cars, yelling something at me. I couldn't really make him out, but something to do with armed forces, something about respect. After a few seconds I just turned and got back on course. Was either drunk, or very broken, possibly both. A minute later I see a PCSO so I collar him down, it's about half 9 at night and you do get some late workers going home at that time from the city centre, who would be easy targets of guys like that. He wasn't very interested, but said he'd radio it in. I took from that he'd not do much and carried on, hopefully the drunk doesn't get any ideas with anyone else, it's school holiday season and lots of young lads and girls walking around alone at night at this time of year.
  23. Fozzie

    Yes!

Glad to hear even if the pay is lower, it's nearer and more convenient hours. Well deserved
  24. It's a lot of bike to slow down, but like I said, it's reports online and might not reflect the truth. They might be just as good, and I've found them on about half of the project bikes I've owned and seemed fine, but I'm not going to stand in the way of a nice little earner for the forum It's a pain for it to hit all at once, but like you say it is under the bike only once. I could never afford to do the lot at once, so I used to stagger it so I would replace the seals (and any buggered pistons) with a set of new pads, and then replace the discs with the next set of pads. One last note you might have already looked at, but I'd change the mounting bolts too. It's a nightmare when one of those rounds off, I usually start by taking a blowtorch to them and letting them cool down naturally.
