  1. Might just gaffa tape it on. Good reel of that and that sump ain't going nowhere. I don't need much of an excuse to spend money on new tools. However on top of that... The bikes already had its fair share of have a go workmanship. I don't want to add to that, but I seem to be unearthing problems everytime I undo a nut or bolt lol. I guess the hardest thing to get your head around is the thought if this bolt ain't done up its gonna fall out. Bolts hanging upside down from a sump multiply that thought for me.
  2. I'll rope in a child to tighten them.. what can go wrong!! In all seriousness one will be purchased, it's just been put off up until now. I've been going by the rule that nothing needs to be "that" tight. So haven't given every last ounce of he man strength every time.
  3. My leaver wouldn't come off clutch side... so gave it some. Then erm the clutch switch came with it. That's typically how I'm learning about my bike, breaking it bit by bit.
  4. Good quality torque lol, having one would be a start!
  5. Got a kit that provides gasket new stainless bolts, new plug, copper washers and o rings for oil cooler lines also. Noticed a small leak in one of the lines so they'll be useful. Hadn't considered the exhaust coming off but I guess it makes sense for access if anything.
  6. I've ordered a replacement oil pan. Found one on ebay for £25 in very good condition and threads intact. Comes tomorrow. I fear u tube isn't going to be much help in guiding me on this one.
  7. There's thread left.. just not enough to tighten fully. It'll have to do until I can get it in.
  8. Plugs fine thread in actual sump ... not so fine. Any temporary repairs I can use til I can get it in the garage or a self tapping plug Friday. It is leaking.. thinking ptfe tape for short term fix.

I should read the manual.. I'll read the manual today.

I have a reserve on my bandit??? Learn something new everyday. I have this bogging down problem when the tank is low. But I only ever used on or off not the reserve. Makes me think I should know more about this area.
  11. I cant think of anything more yawn inducing than an American Freeway. or American roads in general.. mile after mile of arrow straight mind numbing tedium. Don't need to go to America for that.. head for calais leave the Port or Tunnel and you're straight onto the E40, then just follow it E40 all the way - almost 5,000 miles later.. after passing through 13 countries.. you arrive at Ridder. Close to the Border with China and Mongolia. My kind of ride!!

    Oil

My ASDA wasn't so cheap.. still whole lot cheaper than bike specific oil.

    Oil

Am I reading this right... car oil fine. Cos the bike oil is like 30 odd quid. 12 quid is like... well its amazing if it's an option Lots of debate on this on a prevous thread. I have always used car oil (except in th 2-stroke) and never had any issues. Someone's going to asda straight from work..... that's me incase you wondered.

  15. I found the hole.. I'll bottle cleaner that this eve and see what comes out. In fact I think I'll just drain and clean the whole thing. But ill wait til it happens again and the fuel is low. Good indicator of proximate cause then. This slip is doing my head in.. it comes and goes as it fancies.
  16. Also... The common denominator here is he low fuel level. As soon as it's topped up its gone. Both occasions similar fuel levels.
  17. So with my bike.. I have literally only the one exit. Which is where the fuel exits. It's has the twisty nob to turn it on off etc. That has two pipes.... Two assuring no vacuum forms. Would one of those be the breather? I had a spare pipe when I had the carbs out but for the life of me I cannot place it... but it didn't smell of anything which led me to believe it was airbox related.
  18. Only when it's heading towards filling up time.. Might just empty that beast out then. Anyway to clean a tank out?? Must be something undesirable getting into the mix. Cos it only dies when throttle open and heading for empty. P's the heading for my topic is pretty damn stupid. I did know this but was open to new information.
  19. Second time I've noticed this... when the tank is in its bottom say quarter. It's lost power and cut out when out n about. Top the fuel and the problems gone. I'm thinking my riding is stirring up the lower levels and making any water enter the system. As full choke and it'll fire up again straight away. Makes me wanna purge the tank and start from fresh.
  20. Well the slip seems to have stopped.. now however twice whilst out for a stretch today it bogged down and cut out.
  21. I haven't done anything since I adjusted at leaver end.. it made enough of a difference for the moment. I'm thinking old cable and it needs replacing now. As it can't be the plates. I changed throttle cables a while back and totally overlooked clutch because it felt fine. Well I think it felt fine. My next bike will be brand new.. This old bike malarkey is expensive.
  22. Gonna stretch it's legs later to see if it's as bad as I think. I open it up and it goes... its not horrendous slip. I did adjust the lever and it helped. Old cable time for replacement perhaps. Just seems so sudden... changed clutch etc a month ago. I'm concerned about the one bolt I inserted.. it didn't have one before but clearly had at some point. I removed it after I noticed the difference. When I open it up properly and heavily is when it occurs... maybe I'm being to Brutish with her. I mean normal to moderate increase of throttle is fine. It's mostly when I snap it open when already moving. Somebody said old bikes had a bolt you could insert which stopped the clutch to work purposes. That whole side where the clutch cable goes in seemed odd in its condition. Not even hand tight bolts corroded as hell. I begrudge putting it back in the garage when it just bloody came out lol.
  23. It defo gains speed. More and more I read suggests the free play may be the issue. just seems very sudden. I'll adjust before work in the morning. I was gobsmacked when I attended to the bolts.. Literally wiggled free one or two of em. The engine breaking was the thing I noticed first actually. It just wasn't dropping like before. I must have knocked something, or perhaps the garage tightened it when in last week. Who knows.
