Thanks mate!! If you see my sudden departure from the forum assume something went wrong and I bought a pushbike.

And rob, no oil change. Literally had it a couple of weeks. Was going to include it in my weekend of greasy learning.

I've got a whole long weekend next week... trottle cables/carb inspection/oil cooler attention and now clutch. Glad I wasn't planning on going away.

    Clutch slip. .

I've seen an entire clutch second hand for 50 from a breaking bandit. I smell odd smells now and then but to be fair it could be wiring as some of it looks alarming close to hit engine areas. But then I occasionally had strange smells on my old bike which was significantly newer. Knowing what smells are strange is kinda hard...

Is clutch slip when you open up the throttle and it seems to rev more than the power you've received at the wheel?? You know, when you open it a little more than usual because it's a long clear dry straight with no junctions. If so... changing friction plates isn't rocket science is it?? Also any suggestions on specific products? Should have taken a longer test ride on this bike....
  8. The throttle issues were prior to the fall. But it did go right as it happens. Must wake up before backing the bike out in the morning..
  9. I've been using the alternative transport since I spotted it... my feet are getting unwanted mileage. Washers/o rings? Are on order. Read somewhere to strip it off clean it up dust it with talc and put it back on to find the culprit. You think?
  10. Yeah I've read that also.. A lot in fact. But I only noticed after it fell sideways in a bush. There was nothing for the rad to hit. So I'm forecasting worst case just incase.
  11. I've got a few days off next week so will pull it apart then.. first time tackling it but if I'm simply pulling stuff off and putting straight back on it can't get to complicated can it.. can it? ? I mean I fixed a few of them I phones in the past and they are a proper fiddly nightmare!
  12. So.. The bike fell over in a bush. Initially I thought I'd been lucky cos it was a bush!! However I have now noticed a leak from somewhere around the oil cooler. I know this because the line looks like it's been dipped in crude. If it turns out to be the cooler then GREAT cos that's only 70 quid. However, these lines cost more than the actual rad!! Any suggestions of a place to get cheaper lines for the cooler if it comes to that? Gsf 600 98.
  13. I'm replacing the trottle tube now as it's erm... broken. Something snapped off which retained the push cable. Annoyed! The throttle moves as it should but doesn't exactly ping back. So I new cables and unit first anyway. Then move from there I guess! Thanks
  14. So... I roll on the throttle and it does what you'd expect, roll off however and revs don't drop. It maintains the engine speed and sometimes will continue to rise alone. It's my first older bike so I'm a little unsure as to how rough around the edges things should be, but that doesn't feel right. I've ordered new cables a and b.... because cleaning them out looks pretty unlikely due to the amount of filth in them. Any advice? Think it is just the cables?? Gsf 600 98
