  1. was planning to use 12mm ply as its a bit cheaper than 18mm and those rafters are c16 stud work so pretty sturdy. been trying to source some wooden shingles but they all seem too expensive at about 40quid per square meter. the felt shingles were the backup option. alternative was to do a proper tiling job with felt underneath but that might be a bit overkill, and full size tiles might look wrong on a small house. would you be able to suggest any cheap suppliers? other things i need are small guttering and maybe some ready made shutters to save me making them. for the shingles, what about a trip to the local forrest and look for some fallen bark roughly all the same size? though it does depend on what style you are going for ai guess. I'm just a bit too much hippy, happy to live in a tent or a hole in the ground

    Rear Tyre

Hi Jack there is a tyre review part on the forums from the forums I'm going for BT45's for my XJ600
  3. all it costs me is 2 hours (£60) plus test costs (£75.50) it seems likely what Runningman is saying that the full £250 is for a full days training. Have they explained why the cost is so high? might be worth asking them and seeing why it is that much.
  4. I'm after a sports touring style I suppose i could always get a stock bike and just modify and rebuild. I just thought that a kit bike would be easier, it also brings the insurance down as you have built it yourself. now im even more confused as i really didn't want to rewire a whole bike as electrics scare me at least with a kit bike they more or less give you a step by step or electrics. Cheers Fro! given me things to think about
  5. hey guys, I'm looking for a project, and looking at building my own bike. the only thing is I don't want a chopper but that is all i can find with kit bikes. has anyone had any experiance with building their own bike? if so did you go through a company to get the frame? has any one seen any other styles of kit bikes? I keep looking but am just getting more and more annoyed. Any help would be great!
  6. hey guys, I bought some muck-off the other day can i use that instead of parafin to clean the chain? will a nylon brush work to get some of the rust off?

    Couple of Issues

this was happening to a friend of mine! he crapped himself and took it straight into a garage only for them to say that he had over lubed his chain and what was dripping down was chain lube that had hit the sprocket casing and melted with the heat and was dripping down and causing a puddle.

    Chain Grease

at the moment I'm using Castrol chain lube. it seems to do the job the dude at the stor told me that it has wax in it as well though if not shaken properly it does feel rather sticky. has anyone else tried it? or should i move to something else?

  12. I might take the easy way out I was looking at youtube vids last night of how to do it and I don't think i have the equipment to do it (not a matter of not having the capability just no equipment ) give me a few bits of pipe and an arc welder and I could make a bike lol I need a garage so i can buy tools!!!
  13. Cheers Grumpy, if it's the steering, how would i fix it? (Only ask because i sort of have an idea how to fix the bearings)
  14. Hi guys, so when I am riding I am hearing a knocking sound that sounds like it is coming from the forks but as I am riding I'm not too sure. I have stopped and tested it but the sound only happens when i am riding. the stearing feels slight loose also when this is happeneing. I have no idea what it could be or how to fix it! Please help!
  15. I'm thinking about riding it for a while then ghetting a bike I really want..... the Teapot! I love them well the xj is getting cleaned up and maybe a respray and that's about all she needs, then she should be good for selling or part ex'ing, at least the teapot should be a bit lighter than the divvie

  17. So I kinda went out and bought myself a bigger bike last night ..... IT's an XJS600S Diversion 1992 plate, got 49k miles and needs [strikeout]some[/strikeout] ok A LOT of cosmetic work doing to it. I do have one question though, how easy would it be to fit a full fairing to it as i have only seen them with front and bottom fairings.

Should this be done at lights and traffic jams when on a mod2? and what are the rules regarding cycle lanes?

    Qinqi RSR 125 HELP!

Fantastic! thank you Quick update, it looks like it is the pads pressing against the disk on the front wheel that is causing it to not move as freely, how do I fix this other than kicking the brakes when i am at lights or in traffic?

    Qinqi RSR 125 HELP!

Thanks guys! been a massive help! i didn't even think about using a flathead to get the screw out! I wouldn't know where to start though with the switches for the brake lights, I think it could be the brake pads pushing on the disk (Kinda hoping) I also wouldn't know how to fix the bearings thank you this forum has been a life saver! I'm gonna have to go to the Rally and thank you guys!
  22. Hi everyone! Well I have been trying to work on this bike to help it ride better and I have noticed that the brake tail light is on all the time? I was thinking it could be something to do with the electrics maybe water in the switch? The front wheel also doesn't turn as freely as it should be doing I have noticed and the front brake can be non-existent if left for a few hours until pumped (I also can fill the fluid up because the crew has been rounded) this needs a bore out but i don't fancy drilling it out then re tapping it. how easy is it to fit a new reservoir?
