  1. I was eying up a Merlin jacket at the weekend show, looked nice and warm, good length lots of pockets. However Merlin have decided that what women really really want is for their jacket to say "Lady Merlin" in poncy font across the front. I did not want this so went RST instead.

How is the jacket these cold mornings.

( should have gone for the Merlin with pink trim)

  2. But if there is no road tax on the vehicle there needs to be insurance on the vehicle in order to get the road tax. When I have bought cars or bikes from a dealer, road tax was always required hence the need for an insurance cover note in the old days.

Now with everything on line, when I bought the last bike, phoned insurance with date of pickup, went to dealer and taxed it at the dealership all online. The MOT was part of the deal.

  3. Got a feeling it's the sender unit. Took the float assembly back out and tested it in the sink. Floats no problem. Connected it all up and gauge read empty. Moved the float to other side and gauge read full. Held float in different places between empty and full and gauge read all over the place including empty when should be half full etc.

    Kawasaki want £120

Fleabay don't have any and I need the gauge ... can't be doing with all this guessing and trip business. Gauge was pretty accurate too.

    This any good.

  4. whats this chain thing you speak of :peep:

    Don't you start!!

Annoyingly as my rear wheel was off to fix a puncture I have to adjust teh chain AGAIN!! arghghghghghgh

You meant they did not adjust it on refitting after the repair.

  5. Right, the sender is a coil of wire on a former and this is connected to one of the wires. The floaty bit is a wiper that rub up and down the coil(quick nurse the screens). The other wire is connected to this wiper. So as the wiper moves up and down the resistance changes. It is possible that some muck or something has got Into that area and sat the wiper moves it is touching different areas. Hope that makes spence, it does in my head. So it may be possible to clean the wiped area of the coil and hopefully restore the operation. If if don't you haven't lost anything by trying.

Unless any one else has ideas.

  6. I think there are 3 wires on the back of the gauge, brown + , Black/ yell - , and yellow/white to the float. Through the float to the (-)

Link yel/white gauge read full. Disconnect link gauge read empty.

Do not link wires for long.

If you do not have a manual there are several on internet to down load.

  7. It sounds like the float isn't floating. Can you take the float unit out again, I know you have 10ltr of fuel int there. Then if possible lower the float unit into some liquid and check that it does actually float and move the sender arm.

Otherwise is there anything in the tank that is stopping the float from moving, annoying bit of pet seal?

  8. I pulled the float assembly this morning expecting it to be all solidly covered in Petseal. It wasn't. It moves completely smoothly and freely.

Any ideas where I should look next? Was working fine before I started my little revamp job and as far as I can tell have not disturbed any electrics. All other dials and lights on the dash work fine.

If you have a multimeter, set it to resistance and disconnect the float switch. Then measure the resistance of the float switch, move the float and check the resistance changes. This will tell if the float assembly is working. If ok then check the rest of the wiring back to the gauge.

    HTH.
