  1. Looks a nice bike, should be ideal as a first bike. Don't forget it will not be taxed. Any remaining tax will be refunded to the current owner, you will have to tax it before you can take it on the road. Enjoy it and take care.
  2. If you are looking for an engine that will bolt straight in then you will need an engine form another Kymco hipster V4 2.0. There may be another Kymco bike with a similar engine that wil fit. An engine form any other make will most likely require lots of work to fabricate/alter engine mounts etc.
  3. Scuba diving is my main hobby. I am a qualified Dive Leader & Assistant Instructor with BSAC. I also have my own speedboat, Fletcher 17ft with 130hp V4 1700cc 2-stroke
  4. I have a GSX600F, it has the same sealing plugs. I've tried everything to seal them. The main problem I get is misfire i heavy rain. When I got the bike the front mudguard had been cut short making the problem worse because so much water was spraying up from the wheel on to the engine. I got a good 2nd hand mudguard and it has helped. I wanted to fit a fender extender, but I can t get one to fit my bike.
  5. As mentioned above, the knob adjusted the idle rpm. The knob is the end of a flexible cable similar to a speedo cable. At the carb end there is a thread on the end this screws in to increase rpm and out to decrease rpm. If you turned it in too tight you may have stripped a thread as mentioned above or broke the flexible cable. To find out what is wrong you will need to remove the petrol tank to insect the cable and workout what is wrong. If you are lucky you may have unscrewed it to far and it just needs screwing back.
  6. Getting back to the original question. Does a SCUBA tank filled with helium get lighter or heavier as you empty it? It gets lighter as it empties. A typical 12liter scuba cylinder weighs about 12kg. Normally they are filled with air to 232bar, 12x232 = 2784litres of air. Density of air is 1.225 kg/m3 (1.225 kg /1000litres) Hence the cylinder contains 1.225x2784 = 3.41 kg. Hence empty cylinder 12kg Full cylinder 15.41kg. Helium density is 0.916kg/m3 (0.916kg/1000litres) Hence the cylinder contains 0.916x2784 = 2.55 kg. Hence full cylinder weight is 14.55kg So you can see full cylinder 14.55kg, let air out and it gets lighter until 12kg when empty. The difference in weight between an unpressurised cylinder of air and helium is tiny its about 4g.
  7. The metal contacts in the switch are starting to wear away. New switch should sort it, not too expensive.
  8. If that's correct then something has gone wrong when they fitted them. There are3 places that need to be sealed 1. The valve to the rim. 2. The tyre bead to the rim (both sides). 3. In the s=case of your wheels the spokes to the rim. On older type spokes wheels, they always needed tubes because air would leak out through the spokes. I have seen some newer bike where the spokes are at he edge of the rims. I expect oeof the reasons for doing this is to keep them outside the area that needs to be sealed. Are the spokes on your wheels at the edges of the rim?
  9. Did you fit them yourself? You will need tubes to fit he tyre sizes, some tubes will fit a range of sizes. Don't forget the rim tapes as suggested above, other wise you will puncture the tubes. I'm surprised they even inflated|
  10. I will be watching this, watched his Hovercraft record attempt the other night.
  11. Mine has been in regular use all winter. Its been quite mild this year so I have used it to commute to work most weeks.
  12. Check your valve clearances first, if the inlet is not closing fully not only will it cause backfire but will quickly damage the engine. If clearance are OK, check the ignition timing, If timing is OK, check the carb, needle valve controlling the float level could be sticking/worn. While carb is stripped remove and clean all jets making sure they go back in the correct place. When you put it back on make sure there is a good seal between the carb/inlet and head.
  13. My GSX600F has similar engine and choke system. As stated above move lever towards you for a cold start. Revs will increase when engine fires. After a few seconds the revs will go higher then 2,000rpm, move the lever away form you to settle revs at 1500-2000. When you are ready to ride off move lever to get revs about 1300-1500. Ride off. After about 1/4 mile move lever fully forward.
  14. Hi I am in Ewloe, might be up for a ride around sometime. I got back into biking after a gap of many years. My daughter got a bike which I borrowed a few times. Soon remembered what I was missing so I got myself a GSX600F.
  15. 1. Check chain tension. 2. Check exhaust is correctly positioned. 3. Is the rubber bump stop for the centre stand fitted. 4. Put a spacer or bigger bump stop to move the stand lower to get it away form the chain. Quality of aftermarket parts vary. Some just bolt on and work well, others need a bit of fettling to get hem right.
  16. Like post above says, check out the Chassis and bulkhead. If they are sound you have a good motor. Chassis can be replaced, worth doing of the rest of the parts are good. They have just stopped making Landrover Defenders a few weeks ago. Good ones will appreciate in value even more now. I have had Discoveries for the last 12 years, currently got a 19995 (M) plate running on LPG. Bought it 5 years ago, with 173,000 on the clock. Currently done 210,000. Good luck with yours.
  17. Now you have a multimeter you can use it to check the wiring. Use the meter on the resistance range like you did to check the float. Good wiring will give resistance close to 0ohms. Also use it on voltage (use a range that is greater than 12v usually 20v). With the ignition on one of the terminals on the gauge should be 12v.
  18. To check fuel is getting to the carbs, try loosening the drain screws a few turns (if you can get to them) fuel should run out.
  19. Hi, I think the Sprint has an eccentric axle adjuster. You basically have to slacked the clamp bolt, then rotate the adjuster. To do it correctly you will need a manual or the owners handbook often shows how to adjust the chain. Nice bike, I ma thinking of one for my next bike. Let me know how you get on with it.
  20. The intention of them is to cover the higher part of your vision - that where the sun will be. The lower part of your vision should be below the visor so you can see your instruments without looking through it. Many instrument panels now have LCD displays in them, they can be difficult to see through tinted visors. Also they tend to mist up if the are too close fitting. Tip: When you clea your main visor, clean the tinted visor as well, flipped mine down one day only to find I could see through it because of the dust on it.
  21. AS above sounds like you have no fuel in the carbs. Check the fuel tap first. Some taps have a prime setting (PRI) if it has turn the tap to this position and then check fuel flows out. If it does not have a prime setting the fuel will only flow when the engine is running. There will be a thick tube from the tap (fuel) and a thin one (vacuum). With the tap set to reserve, no fuel will flow. Suck on the thin tube and fuel should flow. If it doesn't then you have a problem with the diaphragm in the tap. If ti does flow then the problem is in the carbs. You would have to be unlucky for all the carbs to gum up! Normally you end up running on 3 cylinders or lumpy tick over.
  22. He could get caught if he drives past an APNR camera. Mostly in city centres and smart motorways. You will automatically get a fine if you have not TAX or SORN. You vehicle does not have to be on the road to et a fine. If its on the road you must have tax, If sits off the road tax or SORN. To get you for no MOT they have to catch you on the road. A letter on his windscreen is a good start, DVLA are not always accurate. They got the VIN number wrong on my V5 for my car, wasn't spotted until the MOT & DVLA records did not match. Took ages to sort out
  23. 400 miles on Friday with one of them richa typhoon oversuits. Didn't let a drop in. Ride recommended and £40. I'd love to know at what point they don't become waterproof, because it held up well for 8 hours. It only stopped raining when I hit the m62 on the way home. I got he Richa Typhoon all in one as well! I've done a 200mile ride through Wales in mine, totally waterproof. Bargain at £40.
  24. I recently bought RST Tundra jacket and trousers from the bike show. Not used them much yet but quality and features are much better then my previous kit. I think the jacket you have chosen might be more of a summer jacket. You may want to add a waterproof over jacket, not expensive and will provide extra warmth and water proofing. or even an all in one waterproof.
  25. You don't always loose all your no claims, most insurers take you bake 2 years if you make a claim. So if you have 1 or 2 years no claims you loose all. 3 years back to 1 year etc. Does vary between insurance companies though. Also sometimes you can protect your no-claims, but may mean your tied in to same ins co at renewal.
