  1. I tried putting a set of clocks form a YBR125 Injection 2009 onto my daughters YBR125 2005 Carb. As said above there is one wire extra on the later ones for the engine management light. The rev counter stopped working with the injection clocks above 4000rpm. I don't know if was due to a difference in the models or the clocks were faulty. Best way with wiring projects lie this is start with an earth, then add each light/instrument one at a time.
  2. When the new bridge opens will there be a toll on the old bridge as well? I do to Liverpool through the tunnel occasionally, but only on the bike, usually avoid it with the car because of the cost. Sometimes go via Runcorn Bridge - depends wher abouts in Liverpool I intend to go.
  3. Makes me glad to have discovered Belt drive... 30,000 +/- and zero maintenance aside from the weekly damage check. I think it's a great shame that the orientals have essentially ignored this option for final drive... Especially in recent years. Belt drive is a solution that has been tried on several bikes. Tends to be the smaller ones, but Harley have tried it on a few. Downside is efficiency is not as good as chains. Failure s usually sudden and un-expected. Replacement often requires swing arm removal. Advantages as you say are no lube required, bike stays nice and clean.
  4. Make sure chain is not too tight - they can often get tight due to stiff links during bad weather. If in doubt slacken 1/2 turn of the adjusters and test ride.
  5. My GSX600 had a new chain (no sprockets) at 17,000. It now done 31,000 and is due for new chain and sprockets. I have used it more in bad weather during the last 10,000 than previous owners did in the first 17,000. In the last 1000 its seen a lot of bad weather and a few links did get tight but freed up aftera good clean and lube.
  6. While it was spitting black oil was the performance OK? It may be a fuel or oil problem. Is the oil pre-mix (i.e add to petrol) or does it have a oil pump. If pre-mix make sure you are using good 2-stroke oil and the correct ratio. If its a pump check it is adjusted correctly. Check the carb is set up correctly, rick mixture will mean un-burnt fuel which will be black. Can you smell petrol while it is running. Check the exhausts are free from carbon build up, remove the baffles and clean all the holes out. Remove the down pipes and main pipe and check for carbon build up. Also check the air filter is not clogged. Check the ignition timing, as well, Have a look at he colour of the spark plug, this givesa good guide to what is wrong with the engine.
  7. I do power wash mine, but I keep the nozzle a safe distance away to reduce the pressure. During the summer just a wash and hose down is enough. After a jet wash I make sure it dried and greased lubricateda ss required. Then waxed the following day.
  8. As everyone has said get it back to the dealer for them to sort. Being a Chinese bike they may try charging you for labour as with many Chinese bikes, only parts are under warranty. Don't accept this, the bike is new, you have hardly used it! If they try to charge you anything seek advice - it is clearly not fit for purpose. Talk to them politely, explain you bought a new bike for reliability - thats not what you got! Good luck
  9. I would be careful using it on an O ring chain. Some greases contain additives that can damage the material that the O rings are made off. There is some data on the link about "nitrile" etc that may mean it si suitable but you need ot know what material is used for Chain O rings then find out of the grease is suitable for that material. In general it appears to have a good specification for use as a chain grease (resistant to water wash out etc).
  10. I have not had too many problems buying off EBay, Main problem I have had is Chinese sellers hiding as UK sellers, Delivery time can end up being weeks instead of days. I have had one to two items not turn up but it has always been sorted out. Biggest problems I have had is with buyers, Listed an item as collection only. Buyer was 200 miles away, asked me to deliver! Realised hos mistake said he would collect, but sent a courier, courier asked what was in the package, I said car sunroof, he asked was it glass, I said yes, courier said - we don't handle large glass items! cant take it! I ended up with negative feedback which ebay would not recind. I used to visit the IOM regularly, I worked for Strix near Ronaldsway airport, nearly ended up living there. I may be coming over for a week this year, we are trying to plan a weeks diving,
  11. Good interesting read, I currently have a GSX600F, I returned to bikes a few years back and was initially tempted by a 600 Bandit. While looking of one I found this GSX600F at a good price so bought it. I have been tempted to look for a newer bike recently and a Bandit 1200/1250 could well be on my short list. May be event he similar GSX1250 with the full fairing.
  12. Fist thing to do is determine if the battery or starter is at fault. If you have a voltmeter check the voltage. Should be 12/6 volts with the ignition off. With the engine running at about 3000rpm should be 14-14.5volts. Is the batterry good enough to operate the brake light and indicators when the engine is not running? If yes then it should at least try to turn the engine over. When you press the starter button does the neutral light go out or go dim?
  13. I was checking over my bike today GSX600F. My chain and sprockets look like they are due for replacement. As suggested above DID X-ring seems to be the way to go. Not sure about sprockets but form comments above Renthal seem to be recommended. Demon Tweeks seem to do good prices, not sure what make the sprockets are though. Chains don't like the salt and wet roads. I hardly touched mine all summer just a quick spray with lube every other week. During December I had to lube it after every trip (several trips greater then 100miles each) If you are using your bike all through winter a Scott oiler is well worth considereing.
  14. The standard 12v 35/35w bulb is tungsten. It can be replaced by a 12v 35/35w halogen, they are noticeable brighter. 55w bulbs are too powerful , the alternator can't cope.
  15. Has it started to splutter since it was serviced, if so then it could be due to something that was done at he service. Things to check. 1. Remove the spark plug and have a look at its condition. Centre should be tan colour, white or black is bad. 2. Remove the air filter to make sure its not clogged. 3. Check condition of the fuel - drain some out into a clean glass jar, has it got any water in it - small beads visible. or dirt rust etc. If yes then carb will need cleaning. 4. Check the fuel tap is allowing fuel to flow, and the fuel filter is clear. 5. Check the valve clearances - if it was done wrong at the service, you need to get them put right before it damages engine. 6. Other things could be HT lead/coil breaking down. bad electrical connection.
  16. I have Michelin PR2's on my GSX600. Great tyres, good predictable grip and last well. PR3s & PR4s should be even better. I had a Bridgestone on the front, grip was OK but wear rate was terrible. It only lasted 6000miles, current Michelin has done 3,500 and barely worn.
  17. I thought this "fix" would cause it to fail MOT. Engine management light is now part of the MOT. I would definitely reject his car and demand a full refund. You just don't want to be dealing with a garage that is prepared to do this. A friend of mine had a car that had the ABS system "fixed" with a timer box that illuminated the ABS light when the ignition was turned on then turned it off after a few seconds so it looks OK. He had an accident that may have been avoided of the ABS had worked. Cost him his no-claims and £1000 to get the ABS fixed.
  18. Gilera being Italian, is likely to have metric threads. Fuel lines probably a fine pitch thread. Try to measure the outside diameter of the thread. Expect it to be 8, 10 , 12 or 14mm. Then try to measure the pitch. Measuring one pitch is difficult. If you can measure 10 threads its easier. i.e 10 threads = 12.5mm then the pitch is 1.25mm. If you cant see 5 threads then see if you can measure 5 and divide by 5. Common pitches are 1.00, 1,25, 1,50, 1,75.
  19. Good to hear you have improved the handling. Just goes to show, before trying to modify a bike make sure it works the way the manufacturer intended. Its likely that the existing oil had thinned over time and/or some had leaked out. The extra 10mm would reduce the air space slightly in the forks this would reduce the amount the forks compress during braking,
  20. I've been midweek last 2 years, may do the same again this year. I don't bother buying ticket in advance, the saving is only small and if something comes up and I can;t make the money is wasted. May buy a new helmet, current one will be 3 years old, visor is getting a bit scratched,
  21. I had a Bridgestone BT-021 on the front of my GSX600, it was completely worn out after 6,000miles on the shoulders, Previous tyre was a Michelin Pilot and had done nearly 20,000. I now have Pilot 2's front and rear, after 2,000 miles no noticeable wear.
  22. Making a complete wiring harness form scratch will be a big job. Why do you want to make a new harness? Are you are just trying to make it less bulky by removing unused wires? There generally isn't much on a bike harness you can get rid of! Indicators maybe! If you want to smarten it up, have you considered re-wrapping it with insulating tape? you could remove the old tape or just tape over the existing tape. I am currently working on my daughters YBR125 harness, it has a bad connection somewhere for the indicators, it seems to be one of the 6 way terminal blocks so I am adding in extra wires to by pass the problem connector.
  23. If you have access to a compression tester, checking the compression will tell you if there is and valve.piston, head, gasket damage. Your cam cover could have been seeping for a while, while the cylinder was running correctly and hot the oil would have been burnt away. I would suspect coil/injector problem. Swapping coil packs injectors over should help diagnose the problem.
  24. I had Buffalo cheap jacket and trousers, armour in these was fairly basic, 6mm thick pieces of foam. I've now got RST jacket and trousers. The armour in these is a lot better. Back protector is a honeycomb type a=bout 20mm thick. Knee shoulder and elbows are pre shaped protectors that are thicker and stay in place better. Only downsides is the RST trousers don't have hip protectors so I took the basic ones out of the Buffalo trousers. The better armour is also thicker (better protection) but more bulky. I can live with the bulk for the better protection.
  25. The indicators are easy to get at by reaching down inside the fairing. Changing bulb is a 10 second job, few minutes for the indicator itself, small stubby screwdriver required to remove the cross-head screw(s). I was thinking of changing the orange indicators to clear on my GSX600F but the cost put me off! £39.95 a pair. Have you found cheaper?
