  1. Wow that is pretty caked on the right. looks good now though.
  2. Lubed the throttle cable? Could just be that sticking, if it is you can lube it up or buy a new one and lube that up.
  3. Cleaning what? the chain or the bike?
  4. It's either a sight glass or a dip stick -usually attached to the underside of the filler cap.
  5. Got any big hills near you? Thought about a mast?
  6. Then in some cases, I stand corrected
  7. Keep the caps out of the battery and keep it away from anything that might be damaged by spitting acid.
  8. I try my best frankie. And in the end he did let the oil out!
  9. Lol where did you get this poor bike from!?
  10. What i meant was if the seal had gone that pressure would escape but clearly it isn't. The breather pipe goes from the back of the crankcase somewhere up to the airbox, but if your oil level is too high that'll be what's causing the pressure. Let some out of the sump plug then top up until it's between the lines of the sight glass.
  11. Sounds like too much seal rather than not enough. Blocked breather pipe? Is it burning oil?
  12. An engine case seal or the central gasket down the middle of the case? Wemoto's only got the full gasket set if you need the middle one. http://shop.wemoto.com/index.dyn?oid=2147978 If it is that central seal it's going to be a hell of a job to do, pretty much complete engine strip.
  13. £150!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! surely this is with bike hire and stuff? DSA aren't charing £150 for half a test are they?
  14. The filter removal tool should also be fine for refitting the new one. It's just some method of getting a decent grip on the filter, sometimes a nylon strap sometimes a length of chain. As for the torque wrench, I'm not sure, haynes manuals always list torque settings regardless of if it really matters, just to cover there arse if get it wrong. Anything with a gasket or seal, or that's going to be under pressure (eg cylinder head) should be torqued to correct settings really. I wouldn't want to say "it'll be fine", it never mattered on the SR but that had a different type of filter.
  15. Running new tyres in atm on the GS, a simular bike to the CB, and I have been gentle when it's been wet, but it hasn't been scarily slippy and all over the place. And don't align your wheels using markers alone, get some string/ a plank and do it properly, see rennies thread on chain care.
  16. Sorry, I'd like to come but i'm off sailing that week.
  17. Cool cheers rennie i'll pick up a multimeter from my grans tomorrow. The bike uses a breakers ignition system, which I fear might be a topic for the mechanic of yesteryear. Having familurised myself with the basics of it, apparently they can get dirty which can cause this. If it comes to getting the engine cover off this thing for a look at them, any tips on what I should do/check?
  18. Coil, 2 contacts, Multimeter across them, set on ohms of some order of magnitude?
  19. What am I looking for? lose connections? Is there a way to test it? I thought you could put a multi meter across a coil in some way to get a reading, I guess you need a haynes or something to know what it should be.
  20. Trying to get a mate of mine's Honda CG started, but can't get a spark at the spark plug. Tried two different sparks, one out of my old SR which I know to be working fine. I'm no expert on ignition systems and stuff, is there anything that's likely to have gone? It seems most things just need direct replacing if anything. Cheers for help guys Bill
  21. It just stops the wheel nut coming undone. is the wheel nut castlated? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/4/42/Castellated_Nut_(new).png/180px-Castellated_Nut_(new).png
  22. Did someone once mention something about how many heat cycles a tyre has to go through? As opposed to just milage?
  23. That looks great! do you use one? http://themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=21360 Dan's gone the whole hog with a video. Looks very simple and very effective.
  24. So in short, don't gun it for atleast 100miles? Just got new tyres on the new bike so quite interested in this.
  25. Hmmm - I'm just sketching some ideas out for something that would remain on the bike and keep the chain clean/lubed up. Bill - I agree with you about the touring - how do people who do it clean their chain though? Hundreds or thousands of miles with just lubrication and no cleaning would leave it a bit of a mess I would imagine. All you need to clean a chain is a toothe brush and some parrafin. But touring on a bike even with all the luggage you can fit on, you're bound to be tight on space once you've got clothes+tent+shoes ect. There's probably some kinda spary on solvent in a handy little bottle you can buy. Like I said, shaft dirve
