  1. Why do you think people get their licence?
  2. As said a bit of choke won't hurt. The clunk I'm pretty sure is the piston having just enough energy left to complete half a compression stroke, then being pushed back down, running the engine backwards half a turn, I think this clunked the starter clutch or something, I remember it on my SR. Don't get it on multi cylinder bikes because there's normally another piston that'll sort it out.
  3. Sounds good, probably will do springs while I'm at it, would rather not fork out for steels if I can help it.
  4. Turns out, all that racing start table cloth non-sence wasnt so clever. Anyway, my clutch is well on its way out. Intermittent atm but definitely lacking acceleration and engine braking at times. What needds replacing? Friction plates? Steel plates? Springs? Cheers all
  5. how can you tell the temperature does it have a gauge? air cooled engines arn't designed to run standing still idealy, they need the air flow through fins to keep them cool.
  6. Yeah I've got pillion insurance and a decent helmet that fits her properly is a must. 1 piece leather suits are probably a bit overkilll, just looking for basic textile gear
  7. Morning campers, quick Q. Basicly, me and a mate want to do a few short breaks away on the bike, round nice bits of england maybe ireland for a few days. Thing is she's all up for being pillion but she hasn't got any gear and us being students neither of us have much cash. I just wondered if there's anywhere you can hire gear from? Or might it be better to just buy it, use it for a few trips and selll it for as near as damn it what we paid for it?
  8. why not use carbs from a Mk3 golf GTi?
  9. Has it come from a track bike would be on my mind, especially with a big lump like that. If it's had the nuts revved off it all its life it will be feeling sorry for itself. Suzuki do an SV 650 but with a 1000cc engine, it's called, the SV 1000, sure you can be arsed?
  10. They might not fall apart from each other but they shouldn't be pressed together anymore, you shuold be able to seperate them with your fingers
  11. Clutch springs gone, completely? Does the lever just flop about? no resistance in either direction?
  12. There should be some markers on the crank case to show where the lever should swing from and to when it works properly. Does the lever on engine return by itself? Should do with quite alot of force
  13. Cut through a brake disk!?? Jesus, never heard that before! That's a bummer man, you phoned the police? Don't suppose there's much they can do.
  14. You really wanna go fast sell it, spend the money on lessons, get your license and get something with some proper go
  15. Get your chest on the tank, clip on handle bars maybe, keep you nice and low. nose fairing?? I dno if you can get hi-lift cams for it, probably not.
  16. if it's dripping out of the overflow, it's the float valve that's gone.
  17. Red red red red red!! You only want black if you're in the matrix, and plebs will think it's a Ducati!
  18. If you wanna start really simple do top end rebuilds on either 2 strokes OR 4 strokes with push rods. Push rods are ancient technology that everyone forgets BUT the trusty CG used them for a long time (they might still be I'm not sure). Nothing's more of a Faff than having to do everything hanging on to a timing chain to stop it flopping in to the crank case. Tools, basic set of spanners and sockets, do get a torque wrench though. If you're dealing with valves get a compressor for them too, makes life alot easier
  19. TZRs and CBRs are quite different bikes, primarily 4 stroke and 2 stroke.
  20. Jets, get the carb off, undo the screws holding the float bowl on. The jets screw in underneath it. You'll have to unscrew the old jets first. You not got a haynes manual? EDIT: There are 2 carbs, do it to both

    sv650s

How long is a while? Was it a while over winter?
  22. Doesn't the ER 5 have some voltage regulation issues? Might it help to leave your headlamp on the whole time to draw a few amps?
  23. You checked it makes a spark atall? I wonder if the coil's died. Take the plug cap off, take the plug out, put the plug backin the cap, hold the nut of the plug against the fins on the engine (holding it by the rubber cap so you don't get zapped). Then turn it on and hit the starter motor. If all's well there should be a visible spark between the electrodes. If not something's wrong. Coil is an easy cheap fix so don't worry!
