  1. yup exactly what i used, and about 3 mins later realised my float bowl / float were stuck to the tub, took them out, lifted the tub up and the bottom fell out! tesco's own brand icecream tubs eh - who'd av em
  2. Also, don't do what i did and bathe the bits in a plastic container as the plastic will just melt. Just get stuck in and be extra careful, I used a whiteboard to jot down the order of everything i pulled off (like vacuum pipes etc) Hope your float boal screws aren't stuck on like mine were!
  3. Cheers Ross - I'm going to invest in a tin tomorrow hopefully
  4. Hi mate, I'd aim to keep it if you can, when the bikes cold and IN the cold it might not start v well and hence need the choke.. I'd try taking it off at the engine end and re route it. Shouldn't be too hard to do just a bit of trial and error (unless you know the correct route)
  5. Hi all, just painted my exhaust with some of halfords HT black paint - pretty happy with the results. Whilest doing it i noticed my center stand is mega grimey and rusty. Do you think having a center stand with said HT paint on it in the oven will reck the oven? I presume I need to bake the paint to set it hard? or just give it a go without baking it? Cheers Chris
  6. What about turps / white spirit? are they similar? or a no no
  7. Does anyone know when the big ish bike event is at Preston Park? Went last year, i'm sure it was around this time of year and was pretty good.
  8. couldn't agree more Angel! too right Guisborough's in the North East. and proud of it! If your postcode starts with TS then your teesside i reckon!! Sad i missed that Easter Egg run looked good.
  9. thanks for that Stevie! Cossie - thats what i thought about them being visable from the front. Interesting to see whats legal and what isn't
  10. Just wondering if flashing red LEDs are legal / allowed when your on your bike? I've got a clip on LED which i was thinking of putting on my rucksack at the back.. also picked up some flourescent bands that go round your arms (quite small about an inch wide) which have 4 LEDs in them... they were a bargain at 89p each lol so just wondered if its okay to wear them? Think they are intended for push bikes / jogging and the like but quite handy size
  11. Hi all, noticed over the last few weeks (more than likely since i had my suspension off for seals) that my bike was giving me a lot of vibration through the bars, came to light after i had a ride on a mates bike which was absolutely smooth as hell. Got to investigating and found a fair amount of front -> back play at the front wheel. followed the haynes guid for slackening head stock bolt, top pinch bolts and stock adjuster 'thing'. Tightened up the adjuster and the play on the wheel dissapeared. Put it all back together, but as i tightened the top bolt up again the steering would get very stiff, backed off the bolt again and all okay (still no play on the forks/wheel)... Is this normal? I ended up test rideing and half way realised that the top bolt was very slack (presumably from vibrations backing it off). Got to my dads and tightened it back up, it JUST pinches and goes from nothing to tight very easily. Got home without it slackening again (and turning / handling / vibration all okay). Just keep an eye on it or am i missing a trick? Cheers Chris

    oil leak

cheers, I'll have a look through the haynes and get the gasket ordered!

    oil leak

Is it common to leak from the rocker cover Ross? Mine spits from there, doesn't amount to much but is a bit messy on the down pipes. is it just a case of taking the cover off and replacing the gasket? like you don't have to empty all the oil out do you?
  14. got out on the bike earlier, although they are quite tight it felt great being out in them, much more reashuring than my textiles, I managed to fit the pads from my textiles into the inserts on the jacket and i've heard from the seller who has found the missing pads and going to send them through! ideal
  15. not one i'd admit to like your boyfriend might not like that you laugh at his lol
  16. lol - that should be the test to see if they fit.... Just as i put my glasses on some bell end takes the photo!
  17. lol - is now yeah we moved that plant coz it was dying - think it was from dropping the blinds on it every day...
  18. Soz Vicki I wouldn't want to show off my Glutes UBER Maximus Going to go out after work to see how they are on the bike
  19. Hi all, just thought i'd show you my latest purchase, got these Akito leathers off ebay for £41 - pretty chuffed.. They are pretty tight (trying to loose weight anyway) but just wondered if that is normal / best fit. Once zipped together they dont look too bad - what do you think? Not been on bike on them yet coz i'm stuck at work but they dont seem to restrict my movement that much. they've got a back insert in them, knee and thigh protectors in the trouser. for some reason theres no elbow or shoulder inserts(although there are slots for them and i have some others that may fit) I'm going to email the seller to see if he has them.. let me know what you think
  20. to rule out vacuum pipe / fuel cock not allowing fuel through as mentioned above see if it starts on 'PRIME' on your fuel cock.. Thing is seen as you've had the carbs off / cleaned them I'd doubt your floats / needle aren't working as you will have taken great care with these with cleaning etc.. Does it sound like its trying at all? is it literally just turning over or does it occasionally fire? you tried with choke on/ off (choke cables on right isn't it?) did you take / move the jets in your carbs? idle jet might not be screwed in right? I'm only a beginner tbh but 'carbs' are fresh in my mind as i've just done my own.
  21. haha they're not that type of bung mate lol - they're 3/16's - to fit suzuki and a load of others same as this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-VACUUM-TAKE-O ... 240%3A1318 i reckon they're the right size pure guess work mind
  22. this sort of thing should do the job?: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Four-Throttle-Car ... 240%3A1318 whats the 4 metal pipe bits for?
  23. I've ordered one now! bloody fiver for 10! if anyone needs one send me an email and i'll post you one its such a pain getting to that screw, if i move the tank side saddle it just cuts out after a bit, this has been an utter NIGHTMARE! remind me not to pretend i know what i'm doing next time lol. wish i knew where the old plug went (it was on the bike, then disappeared.... just imaginging it getting sucked in) right - time to order a descent gauge............
  24. Damnit, I've lost the plug off one of my take off's off my carbs (when trying (and failing) to balance them) I presume that I can't run it without one? I think thats whats totally cocked up my balancing too... It does actually run without it but I presume i can't just leave it? Think i'm going to have to take the plunge and get a propper carb balance gauge (mines just a single carb at a time jobby)
  25. Looks really good Stu, the bike looks immaculate. Are you using a compressor / spray gun for that as it looks a really good job. keep the pics a coming! good inspiration
