  1. but then that depends on the gear ratios! Fine fine, well if we're getting petty the real reason is this: on your 125 your are approx 0.5 inches lower down (hence closer to the earths core) than on the no doubt bigger 600. Due to this you get a increased gravitational pull on the pistons in your engine, (horizontal mounted may be different ) therefore you only get 14 bhp if you are lucky. It is in deed nothing to do with the size of the engine........
  2. In theory maybe, but in reality its a lot harder (more revs) for a 125 to cruise at 60mph, compared with a 600 cruising at the same speed your probably talking half the Revs (or less) so it pans out in the end. saying that a 125 will probably do twice if not three times more MPG than a lot of other larger bikes. my CBR125 would get 98 mpg consistantly, my GS500 managed 80 once and 60 once, so it varies on how you ride it. Not sure what my 600 can do
  3. done a good job there Walney! V nice
  4. Id say the bottom line is basically what every one has said. Its 5 X bigger therefore generates "5 x more power" or equivalent. think of a 1 litre car, versus a 5 litre car.. seemples
  5. lol Cheers guys, just waiting for it to rain now so i can test the half litre of WD40 i've sprayed on
  6. Yeah, was quite a hard situation, if i was a dealer thered be no chance.. it would have been taken it to the garage for a couple of days... squirt of WD40 here and there and then returned fixed... I just looked at it from his point of view.
  7. Well its turned out useful this time! I'll check it out later but going to order some new ones anyway!
  8. Hi Dan, yeah the coils are hidden by the tank / frame.. Looking at the coils, the cables are attached by 'chocolate boxes' (thats what i call em don't know what their real name would be) which in themselves appear to be fine but obviously means the wires are kind of open to the atmosphere... Is that normal? or should they be souldered / shrinkwrapped? I've had it happen before months ago and WD40 around the leads + plugs sorted it out really.. I just want to propperly fix it. The problem is being able to re create the problem aswell without throwing loads of water over the leads + coils... Ah well, guess I'll order the leads and see..
  9. Hi all, Damn what bad luck I've just had... I just sold this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0382604999 on ebay, on Wednesday, the bloke turned up today and was your ideal Ebayer, paid up in full straight away, had a nice chat and then left being followed by his other half in the car.. About 10 minutes later the heavens opened up (only for about 10 minutes) and for a split second I hoped he'd be okay on his 50 min ride home.. Then about an hour later he turned back up again.. Apparently the bike had been loosing power on the A19 on the way home, it was fine for first 10 mins (i.e. in the dry) and then as soon as the rediculous rain started it all went wrong. He ended up conking out and just about managed to get back to mine... just in time for me to give him his money back and drive him back half way home... I did notice that something wasn't right, struggled to get up my drive until the rev's were really high, and it back fired twice. After dropping him home (and the weather bloody beautiful again) I quickly jumped on the bike and took it for a test ride myself. The bike now rode completely fine. absolutely nothing detectable wrong.. Its definitely the wet thats caused it getting in the electrics IMO.. I've renewed the plugs a few weeks ago, whats the most likely cause? HT leads? Coils? Such bad luck its un real. the bike is really good condition and a cracking ride just this blumming wet problem to sort out now.....
  10. should tell you either in the service manual type thing you get with the paperwork or in the haynes manual (or possibly on a bandit forum) exactly what the idle should be.. just set it to that.
  11. At the top of the page it reminded me of my problem previously where my main jet was blocked (hence could idle okay but once higher revs the bike would stutter / die). But at the last update it sounds the opposite way round so maybe your idle jet.... Only way to rule it out is to... rule it out
  12. Haynes manual is probs the best bet. Mine was really easy / straight forward for both sprockets. so I'm guessing it depends on the bike as my front sprocket was just held on with a little Cir-Clip.
  13. I got one, works a treat. very simple and like Akey i just use normal engine oil in it. Depending on where / how far away from the sprocket you mount it determines how long the oil will stay in the tube, so for me (relatively short jeurneys) I have it mounted on the pillion foot peg which means the tube is less than a foot long and therefore oil will run out quicker.
  14. I just laugh at myself if they don't knod back. They probs all think I'm a crazy nodding maniac!
  15. Sounds like a good trip Mr. Goat.. You were carrying quite a bit, were you camping somewhere?
  16. Cheers WF, thats the one! was good last year think i'll be going to it.
  17. FIXED! nice one lovely jubbly.... Well see the pic below this was the cause of my problem. reletively small you might think but when its plugging your main jet in one carb lol its deffinitely not small!! decided to strip carbs as per last update, realised that the LHS zorst downpipe was cooler then RHS so looked there first and sure enough it was completely blocked. All sorted now and done 65 miles to test it! I'm one happy bunney Thanks to everyone who posted and Dan who was helping me trouble shoot the other day
  18. cheers for the replies peeps. update.... I've had the bike in a few bits, checked the fuse / cables / pipes for kinks etc and can't see anything. had the plugs out as suggested against the engine and produced a nice blue purple spark, both of em seemed very similar in terms of frequency but by eye is all i've got to go by. I've put my original KnN air filter back in to rule that out, Noticed that when i let the throttle back off (after its' eventually got up to revs) its backfiring and some times cuts out... I've took the fuel tank off and cleaned off the tiny amount of muck that was on the filter in there. All back together and is still the same. i'm now anticipating possibly taking the carbs to bits to see if theres anything in there going on.. any more ideas ? appreciate all the help btw
  19. They LOOK okay... If i take a plug out, stick the lead on it and then hold it close to the frame is that okay to check the spark? and do i leave the fuel etc all normal (i.e. won't it flood if none of it is igniting?) or should i turn the main fuel tap off? I've checked the main bike fuse. which is fine. I've looked at the cables and what not around the fuse which go to various bits and bobs. there is a regulator / recitifier under the seat which from what i understand plays a part in the ingnition, and also a 'pulse generator' behind the RHS engine casing..... ermmm. propper stuck. Think I'll take the tank off, so i can test sparks etc and get clear view of everything.
  20. tried that and didn't really tell me much.. both made changes to the engine sound and then conked out so don't think its running specifically off one cylinder. Another interesting thing - on the dash there is a lil green indicator bulb and headlight full beam indicator. neither of these work now. I'm thinking that there may have been an earth problem and which caused the lights to blow and possibly caused something else to do with my power problem - what - i don't exactly know....
  21. only just did mine about 2 months ago mate... When i've finished work i'm gong to pull the spark plug cables one at a time to see if its just running on one cylinder.
  22. Sorry guys me again Last night, fitted new air filter (standard part), put it back together, took for 10 mile test ride and everything was totally fine. This morning, on my commute about 5 miles in I join the main road. I worked my way up to about 4th gear @ approx 60mph.. All of a sudden @ approx 5000 RPM the bike just stops being able to rev. drifted over into the LH lane and pulled off, managed to get to work doing about 20 - 30 mph in 1st / 2nd gear. The bike just would not pick up at all. and yet it didn't actually stop running. when i got here I stoppped / re started and its hard to tell but still seems the same. Even when in neutral the bike just isn't revving freely enough to get the rev's up (as it should be).... Its almost like an air / fuel problem but strange as i can't see any blocked pipes or anything. I'm leaning towards some sort of electrical problem now maybe something similar to the thread a couple below. Has anyone got any ideas?
  23. Hi Ant, up to 5k revs is everything okay? i.e. normal power etc?
  24. hi mate, cheers - did that and its sorted now
  25. Just Halfords stuff "Carb Cleaner" lol
