  1. wouldn't care - i was bl00dy in one this morning and forgot and it shut at 16:00! doh! Theres always tomorrow i suppose. What about cleaning? can you use stuff like white spirit etc?
  2. Hi all, What Chain wax should I use? Is there anything in Halfords that is suitable? when I looked there only seemed to be one chain lubricant which was a spray. I presumed that i'd be able to get something which wasn't an areosol? or is this the norm? thanks Chris
  3. " Wash-in waterproofing for wet weather clothing Adds water-repellency and revives breathability to fabrics without wicking liners. " what is a wicking liner? my jacket which is an Akito one doesn't seem to be waterproof at all much apart from the inside layer. So baiscally remove lining/ elbow / shoulder pads and bung some of that in with it? was thinking of getting some of that spray on stuff but this sounds possibly better way of doing it
  4. cheers guys - it was the bulbs. for future ref incase anyone else has same issue. Both dials have only one very small bulb in each. you need to unscrew two nuts and the cable (Rev / Speed cable) from each unit. the Rev gauge will come out and you will spot the wire disapearing into a rubber bung. pull on the rubber and hey presto out comes your bulb. replace but before re attaching the unit unscrew the grey surround as the Speedo Dial has that little trip count reset 'thing' on the side. I just un screwed the surround (3 x phillips screws) and repeated same there. I found the bulbs in my local shell garage! very strange i thought seen as they were so small and wierd!. Also tonight topped up the oil (first time) got half a litre in before it went to Full. All in all - good night
  5. Cheers Rennie, I'll have a dig around tonight after work. Should be able to sort summet out! If not i'll strap a miner's lamp to my for head!
  6. hmm i suppose i should try follow the cables back to a fuse then first off. failing that i'll have to look into this bulb problem! cheers!
  7. Hi all, just noticed this - only just bought it tonight but it appears that both the rev gauge and the speedometer do not light up. Dont know why i didn't check when i got it - I've found what appears to be 'the main fuse' under the seat - however if i take it out (looks okay to me) it doesn't seem to do anything different (i.e. the headlight / lighs seem fine although never attempted to start so maybe goes to the ignition). Is there likely to be another fuse somewhere else? wouldn't suspect a bulb issue because it is both clusters which aren't lighting up. anyone know this bike? thanks chris
  8. Hi truxx, as far as i'm concerned the textiles will be better water proofed than leathers as leather isn't waterproof. as for the textiles it is true that the inner lining does add to the water proof'ness but i've also seen certain sprays etc that you can use on the textile type which supposedly waterproofs the outside layer also - can't vouch for it as i've not got any yet but sure i will do. going to get them possibly tomorrow or the weekend i think.
  9. Hi Dave, i'm in the same boat - got the jacket but also want the trousers. just waiting to get the brass together to get a pair. Once i've got them i'll feel 100% sorted with my gear (barring the back protector which i still haven't got). I've seen them in the shop - never tried them on which i regret as i could have ordered them off the net if i had. I think it'll look better matching but would expect the leathers give better protection / less waterproof. Me personally would prefer the waterproof aspect still knowing that the textiles give good protection - albeit not quite as good as the leathers..
  10. Cant be any worse/better than ear plugs! they plugs that they have on the shop floor at work are literally sound deadening - or as close as they could get to it. if they were really effective at blocking the background noise i would probably not run the IPOD on full volume. Its much of a much-ness i guess!
  11. well i dont want to jinx myself but i'm only on a 125 at the minute - DAS next month so bigger bike - but probs 250 commuter thereafter. I just wanted something that i can stick in the back of the jacket for convenience. I've no doubt the big seperate set ups are better / more protective but dare i say it a bit overkill for me **touching wood, hope i dont snap my back now**
  12. might see if i can get some of them in ear type ones with the rubbery end! Oo err
  13. How big are they? I use my bag for my laptop which is pretty good. I can agree with the back heat though nice n sweaty!
  14. Hi, does anyone know where to get an insert specifically for the Akito Desert jacket? Can't see anything specific on ebay and the Akito website is... not very good. Cheers
  15. was reading this which made me ask the question - i dont think it can be. http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/view ... light=ipod
  16. Hi all, was just reading a few posts / threads on here about people using IPOD when riding. I never even thought that it could be seen as a problem in the eyes of the police. The main problem i've got with that is that in your theory test / theory reading material it recommends you using ear plugs to cancel out road noise. I know for a fact that I can hear less with ear plugs in than with headphones on. Is it purely if you crash / drive badly and get pulled they might pick this up. seems insane that you could get done purely for having headphones in? can anyone clear this up for me? Chris
  17. I just picked up a chunky chain and padlock from Halfords, asked the bloke if i could see if it would fit in the seat and it did. I doubt its the best lock / chain on earth but its big and looks pretty strong. Its called a Magnum Plus (anyone used one / more importantly had a bike pinched with one on?) I think a lot of people agree that its the visual deterant that might stop the scum so i just figured the bigger the better. Ah well.
  18. I also had a chain related question. I too have just got a CBR 125. i'm after a chain which will fit into the rear seat storage (its tiny) does a worth while chain exist that would fit in there?
  19. Did my CBT today, went well and i'm collecting my certificate tomorrow morning as they didn't have enough in stock. Really enjoyed it today despite the bike. Got there 9am, had a 20 minute chat about safety equipment Had a look at the bikes and shown what checks to do/ how to put them onto stands and that sort of thing... Chose a bike - I got a big 'chopper' style Hyosung (it was the last one left). It only had one mirror, i beeped the horn and the horn fell off, the electric start never worked so i had to start it manually every time! the indicators were a swine to cancel as its just a slide switch rather than a push in to cancel jobby.., and the position of the handle bars were similar to pushing a wheel barrow. I blame that for my poor right figure of eight as my hand was right in against me when turning.... Anyway enough blabbing about the bike..... Went around the car park / test center bit, did a load of laps, practicing going through the gears etc. then it focused more on shoulder checking and treating the junctions properly etc. figure of eight / turn in the road (quite tricky on this bike but i did get it in the end). Practiced emergency stop etc. After a video and more theory related stuff we headed off on the roads. One instructor to two pupils which i thought was spot on as it gave you plenty of feedback over the radio headphone thing. Drove around and did a few more maneuvers and then headed off onto the A66 / A19 / Parkway which are the main roads near Middleborough. Went really well, headed off more into a few country ish roads which was great. Headed back to base to complete. Overall i thought it was really really good. really enjoyed it, thought that the training / feedback / knowledge from the school was priceless.. Booking my DAS in the morning i think it will be really early in September that i will be able to get in. hardest thing to remember: CANCEL YOUR INDICATOR! - luckily the flat battery on my Hyosung meant that the rev counter bounced every time the indicator was on! lol. cheers Chris
