1. Turning Mawsley's nightmare into a dream situation...
2. Sadly carries more truth than you probably realise! Wanna talk about it ? By the way, such nonsense about BMW riders... It's not all about them, it's just that the others don't matter...

Mod Gig

After the years of going to bike events in Holland and meeting Dutch types down at bike campsites in Europe, I have far worse So maybe we dó need a mod for Dutch speakers...

Mod Gig

Well well. So I just cannot go on a short holiday or you are bickering over mod gigs... You must have known that I am completely off-line during holidays always, for the 'discussion' started the very day that I left. Thing is, I was in England, so had I known what was going on, I could have settled matters personally and decisively on the spot. Instead of sitting in another country and just reading about it... Now unfortunately I cannot offer to take the job. For I realize that the last thing you need now is some f***ng European telling you what you can do and what not in your own country... ahm... forum... And rightfully so! Besides, I found that when you post in your 'normal spoken everyday' English, I often have no clue what you are on about. So unless I can convince you to post in the 'school English' that I learned many years ago, I won't be of any use to you as a mod. Although I know some of you would not mind a useless mod... So all I can do is looking out for you if someone is posting in Dutch, and tell the mods if he/she is using foul language ... So far I only found Mawsley using the Dutch swearword 'klootzak' in a reply to one of my posts. And that is not even such a bad word; we use it for politicians. I do hope one of you will stand up and take the job, so Rennie and Hoggs don't get overworked... And I like to thank Tango for what he did as a mod. Now I'll keep a close watch on further developements. And don't you disappoint me or I'll come over again...!
7. Proof that parenting is the same across all walks of life! Proof... - Click here
8. That's how we deal with 'criminals' in Holland...
9. Great, isn't it? They had two more loco's that were 'on display'. One was being steamed up but it was not going anywhere. And somewhere on the way we had to stop for an old Diesel loco pulling a few carriages. The crossing-gates were operated manually still. Though not as impressive as steamengines, it was still quite nice to see this little train...
10. Not only the weather was great, it is a very beautiful part of England, well worth a visit. I originally wanted to do it by motorbike, but in the end it turned out OK to go by Panda with airco... Great trip anyhow !
11. Hey Stu, a belated congratulations from me. Mrs. O-t had her birthday on the 18-th too. So I planned a real treat for her; a top class dinner in some posh restaurant. But all we could find was fish and chips in the camping snack bar... Still, we think the best way to celebrate a birthday in England... Hope you had a nice time too.
12. So yesterday we came back late form Dover/Dunkerque after spending a 10 days camping holiday in England. Panda wished to see the Lake District and Yorkshire... So we drove from the south-east to the north-west (on 'yelow' and 'white'roads), camping on the way in Kent and somewhere in the Midlands. We than stayed 5 nights on a camping halfway between Lake Windermere and Ullswater and made some roundtrips from there as well as a trip to Yokshire National Park. And we did of course a bit of walking in the area too. The whole time in the UK there was a burning sun, hardly any clouds, sometimes a bit of wind, but not one drop of rain ! We cannot remember ever spending so many days in the UK without rain! We picked up a tan even... JRH, thanks for the tips. In the end Mrs. O-t found some gardens herself in the area, but visiting the 'Lakesiderailway' made my day. Very impressive to see the steam loc so close, and in action ! The ride was OK, but I could have watched the engine whole day...
13. Wonder if we get to learn what and how in the program 'Sience of stupid'...

Election

I know that it is not for me to meddle with this conversation. But I say, just imagine, a motorbike minded führer... I would relocate to such a country immediately !
15. Let me tell you about the quality of the 850 then... When I bought it, it was only 4 years old with about 45K km's on the clock. Price was F2250,- (Dutch guilders) It was a bit rusty here and there already, but nothing to worry about... Well, what did I know, I was 21... One year later I traded it in on a 4 years old Toyota Corolla 1100. The dealer would not have the Fiat at first because the bottom was rusty and had come loose of the support side-beams. The side panels beneath the doors had disappeared (showing the rotten suport beams) and the driver seat had already come through the floor. I was lucky that Toyota was trying hard at the time to get 'it's foot between the door' of the car market in NL at the time. So they took it off my hands for F500,-... My loss: F1750,- in 1 year, a lot of money for a 21 year old. When I asked the dealer later what happened to the Fiat, they told me that they sold it as 'old iron' to a scrap dealer... Now, the Hillman Imp, that was something... Originally I wanted an Imp, because it was used in rallies... Therefor they were quite popular here though and too expensive for me. Plus there were not so many around in NL. One thing I must say for the Fiat though, it took me and my girl on a holiday to Finland and back without any problems. That's when the picture was taken (in Denmark). Technically it was not a bad car, but the body... Man, that body...
16. This was my first in 1971,not as fancy as yours though, just a simple fiat 850 'saloon'. And the girl was my 1st too, we were 21. Has been Mrs. O-t for 47 years now...
17. Yeah I know... It's not even coming near the hight of a mountain. But the tragedy is that it consists of marl, which is used to make cement. And since the Dutch (the others that is, I would never do that) would sell their own grandma for money, it is being excavated for the profit. So in a few years time there will be an enormous pit where once the only 'mountain' of the Netherlands was situated... By the way, we have really drifted further away from the car seats, haven't we...?
18. Yes, I have many times (I used to live in A'dam... and survived...). But pedestrians, including yours truly, mostly cross regardless of the colour of the light too. And likewise do cyclists ignore colours, I must admit. These Amsterdammers (and other city folk) are a bunch of suicidal opportunists. They look for a 'hole' in the line of traffic and then run/pedal for their lives, while trying to avoid colission. It's a miracle there are still so many of us...
19. My my... Big deal those Brits make out of riding a bicycle... Of course, for us who have it in our genes, there is nothing more natural outside walking, but still. Well at least you don't do the rediculous lycra. Just get dressed in your daily suit and hop on the pushbike and go ! Now more importantly, I'm dying to know what actually happened to the new car-seats for your kids. Did you forget about that all together in the excitement of being cyclists ? Or worse, did you spend all your money on mountainbikes and do you still force your own flesh and blood in too small seats ? Really... Brits and bicycles...
20. And the old guy posted in the petrolstationattendent forum in the 'dombo of the day' thread about this stupid biker who....
21. Stoppies allowed ?
22. So you know what I'm talking about ?
23. Quote: " An ordinary man on an ordinary journey. But for this man a simple quest has turned into a living nightmare, for he has stumbled into a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge." Sounds like you have been to Holland...
24. Very nice @Arwen ! Sounds like it really is 'your' bike. Did you still have a choice in colour ?
