  1. I've just renewed my insurance with mce. Some pain in the :booty:

I had a gap where I had no bike soni rang them and asked if my NBC was still ok. They confirmed it was so I said I'd like to proceed with the online quote. Gave them the reference and they went through every question again ffs. Then it was 150 more expensive than the online quote. She just said that's the price.... spoke to the manager who eventually changed it back down.

    Scum

And what is the excess on that policy?

Enough that I had to insure the excess through a 3rd party. Unfortunately no other insurer came close to their quote. Still massively expensive but I think the next cheapest quote was over 3 times mce

  3. So I got the bike started thanks to a call out from AA.

Nice guy, gave it a jump and checked it was all running ok.

I took it for a spin for an hour after to charge it up. Stopped for fuel and it started again no problem.

I'll know if it is all ok when I go to start it in the morning.

  4. I must have left the parking lights on last night. :stupid:

My bike wont start today. The light, display wont come on and all was well with the bike up until then.

Can I get a jump from a car battery or does it have to be another bike?

Or do I need a new battery?

    Bike is a 2018 gsxs125

    Thanks

  5. Smart. I had the yamaha version a while back - good fun, and presumably 100mpg?

Thanks, i had looked at the yamaha but this one won me over. It should do about 100mpg so hopefully over the long run it evens off with a train ticket but is much more fun

  6. Very useable . Looks cooler than a CBR 125 . 👍

I had been keeping an eye on a cbr as there are good ones quite cheap out there. However i got a good deal on this suzuki and it ticks all the right boxes for me at this point in time.

  7. So after a few months lasting on public transport I am back on 2 wheels. Nothing spectacular but I think it is a great little bike for a 125.

It's a little Suzuki GSX-S125, a perfect little city commuter. I've only had it for the weekend so far but I'm really enjoying it.

  8. I've been using the RST blade textile jacket and trousers for the last 2 years for my commute. It's not the sexiest 2 piece ever but it is waterproof, has level 2 CE approved armour and a removable thermal liner. Its kept me cosy and dry over the winter and you'll get autumn, winter spring from it.

I got mine from j&s accessories in their local store. Currently £250 all in.

For the summer I have a Merlin jacket that is light, has some CE armour and has a hidden pocket in the lower back that holds a waterproof mac that fits over the jacket. I think that jacket is discontinued though

  9. That's basically my line of thinking. A honda will likely have fewer faults over an aprilia. I didn't think of difficulty sourcing parts. I don't think the aprilia will have many issues but dealer network and not being a hugely numerous bike might make things difficult or more expensive when things do go wrong.

Next trick it to see if the extra cost of the CB125R over the CBR125r is worth it.

  10. Happy new year everyone!

We are considering another bike in the house. Needs to be CBT and ULEZ complaint. It will be mostly used for commuting.

Cbr125r and CB125R were front runners but I've seen a few Tuono 125 for sale and in paper they look like a decent bit of kit. 15bhp, big enough for a 125 and decent reviews online from journalists giving 1st impressions.

Has anyone on here any real life experience? The Honda were short listed as they are pretty much bulletproof.

Are there any known gremlins lurking in these machines?

    Thanks 👍

  11. I can see the attraction of 2 wheels in Central London. I would probably go for a cheap Chinese 125cc dirt bike. More power would be wasted imho.

I had considered the new keeway rkf naked bike or rkr sport. Even some of the bikes I mentioned seem like targets. On paper it looks like a great 125. But will likely loose 50% of its value in 1 year, then rust and fall apart.

  12. Due to work I changed from 2 wheels to public transport. Riding the bike to work didn't make sense. However things have changed again and I'm considering buying something to commute in to central london again in the new year. My plan is to buy something smallish, light and reliable, (used z300, cb500, duke 390 are some bikes I've considered.)

Theres nothing wrong with any of them bikes but having something a bit sportier or a bit flashier or more expensive just seems like asking for trouble. I'd love some mid weight supersport but in london, parked on the street it seems like only a matter of time before its nicked.

Crime in central london has influenced my decision on what to buy and how much to spend. Is that the norm now?

  13. Both would have the same power but wouldn't the 650 be heavier too. So the 500 would be livelier as its lighter. Also after 2 years you might be bored of the looks or something and feel like changing the bike even when its unrestricted.

I dont know but does restricting the power affect mpg or tax bracket.

  14. My first year quote was 800 FC from MCE woth 1k excess on a cb125f.

Having played about on compassion sites my renewal will be about 650.

I really wanted to do my DAS but it seems there's no point. Any bike I've looked at 500-650cc is well over a grand in insurance.

Weirdly a cbr125 or rc125 is £100 cheaper to insure!

  15. Cheers Guys,

I wasn't suggesting I want to use the motorways but after so many years its hard to get into ur head not using them, I will just ave to buy a small GB atlas and start exploring on my bike (Honda CBF 125)

I was in the same boat 12 months ago. Several years driving and got my first bike last year. Any road with an M in it is to be avoided. Although in a 125 (I have cb125f) I'd avoid a motorway even if I'd a full licence. Accidently ended up on the M11 one windy day. I was convinced i was going to die. Luckily just like in space. In your helmet nobody can hear you scream!

  16. Deffo Hood jeans......but the lining does make them warmer than normal jeans......look on their testimonials for how well they stand up to sliding up the road at speed.....

I've been using my Hood jeans in the hot weather commuting through London.

They are quite heavy but this isn't a surprise when you consider the denim, kevlar, armour in them.

Combined with my Merlin textile jacket I've not had any problem with the heat.

I did get caught in in a storm recently. Merlin jacket has a hidden mac that goes over the main jacket. Worked 100%. Hood jeans though absorbed every drop or rain and deposited it in my boots.

  17. I ended up choosing an icon mesh af jacket.

But a few days after placing my order I got an email saying it's out of stock and will be back in 10 days.

The great British summer may not last that long!

So I cancelled the order and switched for Merlin mondello mesh jacket.

At £77 it doesn't break the bank.

I've been wearing it 2 weeks and I'm happy. It's comfortable.

It came with CE elbow shoulder and back protector.

There's a lot of mesh but also accordion type fabric in strategic places and an extra metal plate over elbow and shoulder.

It's not the lightest but it has done a great job in the recent heat and as a fairly new rider I still feel safe in it

Given the rain returning this week I thought I'd mention the Merlin jacket comes with a light waterproof jacket hidden in a pocket in the lower back. Commuting home in Friday it saved me from a very wet journey. I'd no idea it was there until a few days ago. It held up perfectly even in them awful storms.

  19. I have a Dainese Hydra Flux D-Dry summer jacket. It’s at the upper end of your price bracket but it’s a mesh jacket that has a removable waterproof liner. Nice cooling airflow and should you get caught out you can put the liner back in and stay dry too.

    https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/214730

    It's a nice looking jacket.

Any idea what exactly is" boomerang mesh"?

One of the issues that stood out is many brands have their own version of textile and it seems impossible to know which ones would actually protect you in a slide.

  20. I've been wearing the blade textile jacket and trousers for a few months now.

They are both very comfortable. The armour doesn't poke you like some brands do.

They feel very safe. I feel confident that should things go wrong they will stand up to the task of keeping me in one piece.

Considering that they don't feel heavy.

They are well priced for what you get.

Removable lining means you can get 3, maybe 4 seasons.

The zips in the pockets are sturdy but fiddly with gloves on.

In the summer, over say 16 degrees they are warm.

There is a rear vent in the jacket but that's it. Nothing in the trousers. when the temp is mid teens or higher and I'm commuting home and stopped in tesco for a few bits my shirt is damp and stuck to me and guaranteed sweaty gentleman bits.

There are much better jackets and trousers out there. But for bang for buck these are very competitive and ideal for someone new to two wheels.

  21. I've stuck it as long as I can but the heavy rst blade is going to turn me in to a sweaty puddle soon.

It's late in the year but I think I need to get a lighter jacket.

I've been looking at the knox zepher jacket and the rev it torque jacket.

I'm on a little naked cb125f. Most of my miles are city driving with a little blast of dual carriage way.

Both jackets seem to be quite similar although Knox is a little better looking from the online photos.

What do you think of the 2 jackets or is there something else I should consider? Looking to keep it under £200.
