  1. So as the title says, I had my MOD 1 practise this morning. Went quite well but I did a proper big skid on the high speed emergency stop coz it had been raining for about an hour before my session was booked, The Instructor said because I had come to a stop with the wheels turning and not locked as I let go of them and came back on gently it would be counted as a controlled stop (if the skid had'nt been about 10 ft long!). The swerve test isnt as bad as I thought it was gonna be, its just getting the nerve to accelerate hard when you know that you're gonna have to bank twice and then stop quickly soon after, but once you've done it a few times at slow speed and get used to what you need to do once past the speed trap it quite easy. Other than those 2 parts Its pretty straight forwardand I am optimistic that Ill get through, Just wish I had another practise session before I go for the real thing on tuesday morning. Oh also I found this, Might be of use to some one else.
  2. I did mine on tuesday, 49/50 in about 29 mins. The free online tests aren't very good tbh, I used em for about 2 weeks an then decded to but a DSA one from Arrow for £10. Loads more questions on there as well as learning tools so it can figure out what sections you are getting wrong an then it can do some focused tst in those areas. Well worth the money if it save you the £31 re-booking fee and another 2 week wait. Also the hazard perception is a right pain in the arse and it really helps if you know how it scores points and have a week or so to practise. I treated it like a game that I was trying to get a high score on. I had one section nullified because apparently I clicked too many times and it thought I was cheating, Still got enough right to pass though luckily.

    Bike twitchy

What size engine you after? I might be sellin my 125 Intruder in a week or so depending on how the ol test goes.
  4. I think most places will do an assessment day for about £25. From that they will normally say if you need lessons or not, I went for one a couple of weeks ago and they said I was ready to jump straight into the MOD 1 practice and go from there!
  5. My Intruder is 10 years old and is still goin fine! 17,620 miles on the clock so not too many for its age, From what I've read most Japanese V twins will run for about 150,000 miles before they start to die!
  6. I noticed one on mine the other day, was near a bike garage today so I asked him an he said it was the seam of the tank that is leaking. He suggested either the cold weld stuff that Pete said or a waxy resin that will fill up the gaps, I wish I was as casual as you were about takin a fuel tank off Walney, would have all the little quirks fixed on my bike by now!
  7. Everytime you adjust anyting to do with riding, mirrors, slowing down, speeding up, changing lanes (before and after signaling). Thats what my instructor told me to do when I do my mod 2 soon, also exagerate them too so the examiner can see that you are definatley doin em.
  8. I think you may have an air leak, check your fuel cable see if there is air getting into it and stopping the vacum, happened on mine once was a quick fix with a cable tie!
  9. It was for the MCN thing, I must've put the wrtong date in the title. Ooops!! Ill be heading upto Donington that day (13/10/09) for a training course for work!!
  10. Yeah that's the problem I was having too, thinking about too many things at once. After a little practice it all just clicks if you know what I mean. Just relax, look where you want to go and you'll be fine. I don't think I could even do a figure of 8 when I did my CBT but he said because he had seen me do it when I was just practicing on the car park he said it was probably just nerves when I had someone watching me.
  11. I failed my first CBT too, dont worry about it. I went back 2 days later for a small fee (half price £60). The reason I failed was because I had never riden or droive a car before so my clutch control was non exsistant, The Instructor told me to just take my time and stop thinking about what im doing and just do it, I know it sound silly but when I got into that mind set it really helped. Just remember whenever you stop go into first and when you are pulling away dont be afraid of the throttle, give it plenty of power but control the power with the clutch and then you wont stall. Good luck witht the next go mate, Dont be put off by the one bad experience just put it down to a leaning curve and you'll be fine!
  12. I was there, Got to HG in CHester for just on 11 with my mate on a red bandit. Just had time for a fag before everyone got moving, pity I didnt recognise any of you guys or i'd have come over and say hello!
  13. Do you have a little blow torch? A little bit of heat and gentle nudging (impact engineering my old boss used to say!) with a hammer does wonders for all nuts/bolts.
  14. I had this problem when i first got my bike, the starter motor turned over but it wouldn't fire. The dealer got a mechanic to come out and have a look, When he tried to start it with a power unit attached it started everytime but as soon as the unit was taken off it still didnt work so it was taken back to the dealers for them to have a good look at. Turned out to be a faulty relay between the battery and starter motor which only cost £2.50. Dont know if this is any help but for such a cheap part it can't do any harm giving it a try!
  15. I was takin the piss dude, Dont even know what a cam sensor is TBH
  16. yeah maybe, ill give it a good road rash before i take it back and tell him thats what he gets for showing off!
  17. Yeah I knew from the first post it was a faulty Cam sensor on your ECU, shouldve just PM'd me and I'd fixed it for you!
  18. Well, it looks like i cant get the time off work to go now . Ill keep tryin but its not lookin likely
  19. I was putting some stuff in the pockets of the jacket last night and i found he had left his ticket to the TT races on the inside pocket, I'm well jealous. I wanted to go!!!
  20. Gratz dude, Ill be booking mine too soon. Nearly saved up the wonga i need!!
  21. I couldnt find the recipt so i took in a bamk statement with the £500 odd i spent when i got all my stuff and that was enough, I'll be expecting a call of em anyday now to tell me that its back and ready for me to pick up! Happy days
  22. Where abouts do you live? google motorcylce repairs in your area and give one of the non big businesses a call. I did that not so long ago when i needed my fronbk fork seals done, Bill Smiths quoted £150 and a local guy did them, changed the oil and gave it a quick once over for £55!
  23. Cool, as I said i'm off for 2 days now (wed an thurs) and have a full tank of petrol. Give me a shout if you wanna go for a razz!!
  24. Gah, I'm in work today and off for the next 2 days. I'm always up for it when I'm not in work!!
