  1. I wonder if the vibrating through the brake lever during use could be a warped disc?
  2. This is all going to be terrific fun

    Clutch Adjustment

When you put it in gear is it whizzing round like there's a hamster on speed inside? Or is it going round at a slow enough speed that you could stop it with your hand and not hurt yourself? If it's the latter it all sounds good. If it's the former, and you did stop it with the rear brake, then does the engine sound like it's labouring or no change at all? There should be no change...

    Clutch Adjustment

There should be about a centimetre free play. As Chris has said the rear wheel will spin even when the clutch is in (and in neutral) due to oil drag. Get the free play set up, tighten everything up and go for a ride and see how it feels. Sounds like you've done all right to me...
  5. And what wonderful pieces they shall be
  6. DO IT DO IT DO IT! May sounds good to me, then I can bring a selection of cakes as it'll be around my birthday
  7. It's a +1 from me!
  8. What's the lift in that last video called? The one with the drill - I want to make one (when I get my welder!)!
  9. Nice one Rob, glad it worked out for you. If anyone takes the Mickey just get them to show you their hands after a nice long ride in the cold
  10. It could be either a duff battery or a duff regulator (or both if the battery's been so up and down like that!). I wouldn't advise buying either until you've tested the regulator (unless you're rich!). I've just checked in my Haynes manual on how to check the reg / rec, but it may be bike specific (different colour wires) so best to check yours (as I'm sure you have one, right ?). You'll also need a multimeter...
  11. Well done that girl!
  12. See here mate viewtopic.php?f=3&t=27128

  14. Did they change the plugs or SAY they changed the plugs? Know what I mean I'd still check them. Could be old ones, could be wet, could need regapping or a clean up. Worth a go anyway considering how easy it is on the Bandit...
  15. Or "Satan's Alley" depending on which side you play for
  16. I'm working on a pair to fit to my bike (making them...but don't want them to be or look shoddy!), from what others have said they're super duper I shouldn't think getting your hands in and out is a drama, the opening is pretty big and most of them tend to have reinforcement around the entrace so they hold a more open shape.

    spyball alarm

Nice one I didn't think the service mode would work with the bike's battery flat - someone I know had their battery die and the alarm just would not respond until the main battery had been topped up again. After that it was fine! Glad you've got it all sussed now.
  18. Good point Colin. As a guide try to get it idling between 1,500 and 2,000 while it warms up. That worked OK on my 1999 GSX600F (same engine).
  19. This thread on another site talks about avoiding carb icing: http://www.harley-davidson-hangout.com/ ... ution.html And this is the product they're talking about http://www.whitedogbikes.com/cgi-bin/cc ... ne_PRO_FST Halfords may have a similar product, but I can't find one on their website. I don't think spraying WD-40 on the outside of the carb will do much, apart from gather mud as carb icing occurs on the inside of the carb Like it says in that thread on the Harley site it only seems to happen just above freezing so hopefully it'll get a bit colder and you'll be OK
  20. It's good that you've got a good battery, but make sure all the connections (including earthing points) are clean. If they've got rust on them then it doesn't matter how good the battery is - give them a spruce up with a BRASS (not steel as that can introduce rust) wire brush. How old is the bike? Maybe the brushes in the starter motor are starting to wear out? As for not being able to start the sucker, maybe it's carb icing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carburetor_icing

    spyball alarm

If you do need to set the thing off try covering it with a couple of folded tea towels first to deaden the noise. Otherwise you'll brick yourself (speaking from experience )!

    spyball alarm

It may do. I don't know much if anything about Spyball alarms but if it's anything like my old Datatool one it'll have a backup battery for when the main battery goes dead. You could buy a battery optimiser (which you should have anyway ) and fit that to top your battery up. If the battery's totally, totally dead it will never hold a decent charge again, but the optimiser will go a long way to making things better for you. Good optimisers are the Optimate series (mine's an Optimate 3 but there's now an Optimiate 4) and the Oxford Oximiser. To get battery health back up again you could connect the optimiser overnight with crocodile clips (supplied) then in the morning fit the connectors to the battery so you can just plug it in with ease at the end of every ride.
  23. Would it cover any scratches? I dunno, if they're deep enough it'd just split the vinyl after a while wouldn't it? But if they're not deep then yeah it'd look good. What kind of design are you going for? Do it
  24. Thanks for the pictures 7vwh, I did consider separating the parts, but in the end I found the perfect location for mine Colin though I do have a multimeter I haven't much of a clue on how to use most of the features on it! I only got it to test my old battery and have since used it about once or twice, but I'm sure it'll be even more useful when I work out how to use it. I've finished my install. Saying that the Stebel Nautilus horn is "loud" is a massive understatement! I'm sure if I left the thing going for more than five seconds it'd melt me. No longer do I have to worry about being heard at national speed limit when some slumbering punk cuts me up on the motorway Thanks again for all the tips and advice guys, you've been a great help as usual
  25. Nice one Rick, I'm glad it all went well for you (apart from the rim tape!), and that you got a good set of pads by the sound of it! It seems some people have great experiences with EBC and others...not so much The squeaking at low speeds was the problem for me, you might not have it. This all reminds me that I should really crack on with getting mine serviced. I've only done the air filter!
