Before taking it to a garage, its worth having a look to see if the push cable has popped out of the throttle body.
Took a good look, it's all connected but appears a little slack on the return. Not sure what to do about that. Feel out of my depth.

I'll do that, thank you!

Have you got it set on hill mode ?
Hill mode???

I'd remove the heated grips and see if the throttle responds normally. If so you know where the problem lies
Yeah I did that and it's still not snapping back

So, I've checked that the grips aren't fouling on anything, the cables aren't restricting anything, and the bar end tightness has no effect. So I imagine the problem is somewhere along the throttle cable, which is way out of my comfort zone, so I'm taking it to the shop on Tuesday! Thanks all.

Loosen off the bar end weight a bit, too much pressure on them can stop the throttle freely moving.
Even if there’s no contact between the bar end and the grip?

Was it very hard to get the grips on as it may be just too tight on the bar or a sticky throttle cable
Not very hard, no, but then I don’t know how hard is too hard!

Hey team. I fitted heated grips today. It was actually a doddle. But now the throttle doesn’t snap back. Not sure what I’ve done - it’s behaving like a kind of cruise control now. The heated grips aren’t catching on anything, so that can be ruled out. Any ideas?

I'm gonna do really badly in this challenge based on pubs alone, but I'm gonna have fun doing it anyway. Next week I'm heading from home in Fife to Stafford, via Durham, then back through the Lake District. Will pick up a few points on the way!

I thought you meant that you'd put on weight
That too!
-
Thanks! You're all such a great help!

Check to see if anything's bent and is fouling.
Just for future ref: what does fouling mean?

ALL FIXED! I think the gear shift lever might have taken a bump, I gave it a good yank and we're all good! Thanks for the advice on the hose! Really there should be labels on them that say "don't worry, this is supposed to go nowhere".

ER6F (2007)
I dropped my bike (again). Now I can't get it above 1st gear. I can get it into neutral and first, BUT the neutral light doesn't come on, and the kick stand switch kills the engine whether it's in 1st or N. And when riding, I can't get above 1st.
What have I done! I can't see any damage at all to the gear shift lever. ALSO there seems to be some disconnected tube down there that I haven't noticed before, and I can't find what it's supposed to be connected to!!!!

Not sure if these are easy to work out. Can try to retake in the daylight if not.
These are great, thank you!

I'm not sure what year ER6F you have but if it helps I can try and get some pics of where I put the loops on mine (2010) so the 20l pack sits really well on the pillion seat. I remember two loops required a bit of nimble fingers to route around some of the frame but ensured the bag was in a really good position for strapping up.
It's a 2007 (EX650-A7 is the exact model). Would be great to see pics!

Thanks everyone! Going to try a Kriega bag and see how it goes

Thinking of kitting out my ER6F with some luggage for a bit of solo touring. Rather than getting top box AND panniers (which would cost an absolute fortune), I'm wondering if it'll be stable to get a top box and then bungee a big 50L bag behind it, sat on the spare bit of seating?

Well I must have been doing it without thinking then. For 42 years.
Same here , 40 years and never crashed a bike while cornering . I fail to see how anyone can ride a bike according to a formula, you just get on the thing and go somewhere.
I'm not looking for a formula as such, I'm just new and don't feel 100% confident yet!

Lean angle is proportional to speed, you can't have one without the other, lean too far going too slow bike will turn in way to fast or want to fall, too not enough lean for the speed it will run wide.
Find a roundabout on an industrial estate or a nice bend, go when it's quiet and practice at different speeds, all legal of course, you shouldn't be thinking about it your probably mucking corners up over thinking it.
Thanks Bender!

This is great, thanks guys. I think I'm hearing what I know, but it all comes down to trusting the bike in the end. And I'm going to watch all of that amazing video!
-
And I'm also aware that if you manage to come out of a corner successfully on the other side then it can only be described as a successful corner
Yeah I'm just not keen to experience the alternative!

Forget about countersteering.
Even for bends that are maybe 45-60 degrees?
Throttle won’t snap back
