I got a far better (& much more selfish) idea.......... Bump up the buget a bit with some of your 'own' cash to it and get yourself a lovely, sexy new leather jacket.......... Will be a wonderful gift for him cos you'll look soooooo good on the back of his bike Gotta face it...... that way everybody's happy

Oh Bu**er!!!! D'you think theres a chance we were separated at birth?? -
Can only base my advice on my own experience....I'm too embarrassed to share just how many times I failed my Mod 1. In a similar way to you I found myself getting worse and worse, stupid stupid mistakes on stuff I was able to do easily and well at the beginning. One good thing about it all was it forced me to slow down and analyse my temperament a bit. Firstly I really, really wanted to do this - for all sorts of reasons. I wanted to be on my bike before end of summer. Yes....I had bought the bike. .....So already putting myself under a load of pressure. Secondly its made me realise how hard I am on myself, I dont allow myself to 'fail'. Basically trying too hard, much too hard. Lost all the enjoyment & confidence I had experienced the first few times I rode the bike. As soon as I got my head round why this was happening everything started to fall into place again. Tips..... if you can, book a second (fallback) test far enough ahead to cancel if you pass first time - not so 'now or never' on the day. Another thing to perhaps consider is your instructor. He may be very good and excellent for some folk but perhaps his 'hyper-critical' style is causing you to be tense and try too hard - this is meant to be an enjoyable activity after all??! Finally...and as I've mentioned in another post, beta-blockers can do wonders to break the nerves, cock-up, nerves cycle Good luck n all the best.

im thinking its nice and small so can strap it to the forks so it doesnt arouse the police when using it on road Strap it to the 'folks'............will they be in the side car then?? -
Shaving down my inner legs!!!! ............what ARE you suggesting???! But ...yes...poss worth a try.
-
Apparently thats easy to do yourself ...if you leave cover attached at back. Just need to be careful to get tension right - not too tight. Only staple-gunned on underside.

Whilst waiting for test slots (hens teeth) I'm occupying myself getting my SV650s ready to go. Its fitted with a standard height seat etc and though I'm able to stop and get a foot down fine on level ground, well its a bit of a stretch and I'm concerned that if I have to stop somewhere with a steep camber etc than I may have a problem (can only just get my toes on floor with both feet down) Wasn't keen to lower bike so picked up a seat on ebay for just £20 inc postage. Plant to shave the foam down - probably a good inch lower. Been on a couple of ,mainly US, sites. Seems to be pretty straightforward. Just differences of opinion on whether to remove foam on top/bottom. Tools to use - electic carving knife/Dremmel ! Anybody here done it? Any suggestions (getting legs stretched not an option - I wish!!!!)

Cheers Simon Really sweet of you..........will certainly bear it in mind if I get stuck. -
Planning a camping trip to Ireland at end of Sept. Wont be taking tent on my bike but away for 4 days so .......usual basics, jeans, waterproofs, couple changes of top, toiletries, undies, etc etc ..........and yes I'm female so build that into the equation Bike is an SV 650 s with a cover where rear seat should be. Almost non-existant stowage space inside. As a new rider dont fancy a rucksack .will have enough to think about. Tank bag and tail bag seems the best option, not sure if panniers would work with exhaust????? Concerned about tank bag as Im only 5'5" and ....well...... ......may get in way!!! Heard about problems seeing speedo etc. (cos of tank bag not lol) At that time of year will almost certainly need good waterproofing. Thinking about it now as have (very) limited budget and plan to be evil baying for silly bargains. Any thoughts, advice, recommendations much appreciated....cheers

No.... Really.... who'd have thought it...
-
In theory .......good for me......would love to do it even if I just join for the coast bit. Cant do weekend of 26/9 as off to Ireland - on bike. All assuming I got a bloody license by then!!!!!!!!!
-
Did it again would you believe it? - this time spot on thru all bits then put a foot down on U turn!! NEVER done a bad U turn, always found them easy............... Def got a prob with nerves...........a new one for me.............think mainly due to having bike waiting at home, sooooo much wanting to do this, and certainly not helped by lack of available test dates- next Mod1 mid-Aug!! Only one examainer for whole of Cumbria .........whats that all about???????? Seriously considering a little 'chemical help' next time to take the edge off. Bags of confidence on bike but go to pieces the moment I get into the compond. Words beginning with F F F F F F

OMG, i presume there is no leeway for going over is there? So, what if your speedo is unusually inaccurate? You'd always fail!! No penalty for going over - can go as fast as you like ..........tho, this makes the manouever more difficult of course!! Instructor also teaches you to NOT look at speedo but listen to engine...mainly cos theres so much to think about already .........pretty much a sea of cones in front of you. A very false feeling situation, partic I think when youve driven for **!!*% years like I have May just have a sneaky little peek at that speedo on the approach this time tho......... My re-sit is tomorrow morning and dear ole Auntie Beeb forecasts heavy rain ........................oh joy!!!

Recently binned my Mod 1 Was such a stupid situation/ mistake that I thought it best to share it with those about to do theirs. Had no problems in practice with all the manouvers (cant spell it!) My only 'bugbear' was with the avoidance bit as had clipped the cone a couple of times on my first practice attempts. On the day all went really well, in spite of the fact that I was MUCH more nervous than Id expected to be. As you are given a 2nd try at emergency stop & avoidance, if you are too slow - you are advised to err on the side of caution first time thru as you can always go again a bit faster 2nd time. What I didnt realise is that you are not told that your speed was under 50 until you have completed the whole test. In practice we had only done a right handed avoidance. on the day the course was set up for a left-hander. Not a problem - both emergency stop and avoidance were fine. Then was informed at end of test that I was too slow on my avoidance and would need to do it again. AT THIS POINT i SHOULD HAVE ASKED HOW MUH TOO SLOW I HAD BEEN - I DID NOT! Came round again, determined to get the 50 min - broke all the rules we covered in training re NOT concentrating on speedtrap sec, focusing on avoidance cone etc etc Howled thru speedtrap, had a momentary brain fry, thought 'oh sh*t which side do I go?' and clipped the cone - FAIL Later I found out that my speed on first attempt had been only 1Kh too slow!!! My 2nd attempt had been at 59Kh!!!! If Id asked things may have gone differently. Ask the examiner what your 1st attempt speed was! I re-sit my Mod1 on Weds
