  1. Treated as imbiciles, or behaving like imbeciles? I think that the government has decided to step in with regualtions to stop us from behaving like imbeciles. You are going after the wrong target. i think you must have misunderstood me. i am not going after anyone from the forum. in my previous post i mentioned the bad old days of passing a test and riding big bikes at 17. prior to that, it was even worse. you could ride a RD 250 LC on L plates ffs. the current system is more than enough to ensure we have the ability to ride any bike. to suggest more restrictive measures are needed is nuts. it wouldnt change a thing. oh, and the governments/eu that continually prove that they are not familiar with the "arse v elbow differential equation". do you honestly think they step in to save the simpleton biker from himself? or simply carry out knee jerk reactions to the "concerns" of the un educated voters who neither care for nor understand bikes, but for some reason think something should be done about them?

  3. this debate baffles me.. riding bikes is inherently dangerous. and no restrictions will ever make it safe! a 600 sportsbike that does 160mph? or a 1000rr that will do 180 ish? there aint no difference when the rider gets it wrong. if anyone wants to self impose a restriction on themselves then that is up to them. and good on them i say. but to suggest more restrictions on a free thinking part of society who are already treated as imbeciles by those in government/eu is ridiculous. if, after proving your ability by passing the strictest driving test(s) in the county you dont want a fast bike, (which they all are) then dont bloody ride one. soapbox.. dismounted.
  4. be very careful when letting anyone near your bike with a blow torch. it is easy to boil the grease out of wheel bearings etc i am not saying that it should never ever be done. just makes sure they/you are careful.
  5. .........unless you were a pink jacket and ask daft effing questions. in which case you should have hi vis stabilizers fitted to your 7bhp bike and be forced to ride behind a man carrying a red flag
  6. i think that if you pass your test on a 500 and you should be restricted to a 500. for ever. buy a bigger bike and you should have to re take another test, on that bike. each time you buy a bigger bike. you sit another test. and so on. but what do i care i passed my test bloody years ago only joking. no. no restrictions at all. once you have proven your ability in a test then you have proven your ability. full stop.. i do agree on the 21 age limit tho. the bad old days of passing your test on a 125 as a 17 year old and then going out to buy a gsxr1100 are happily in the past.
  7. twas a good day out and it was nice to catch up the familiar faces and to meet a few new ones too. although i love my sons, it was a right pain having to drag them and the dog along in the van. on the upside, it was funny watching the 9 year old bully devans and TC
  8. its very common for a bike to "snatch" a little when put into gear at standstill. nothing to worry about unless the bike moves forward with the clutch all the way in and you have to keep it at standstill with the brakes. if that happens, adjust the clutch a little. over adjusting a clutch could mean that it never disengages properly and is continually slipping, even if it not that noticeable. that will lead to shortened clutch life. i was always told that you adjust a clutch tso that it snatches a little, this should ensure it wont slip. hope that made some sort of sense.
  9. i have my boys that weekend but i will still come along to rutalnd as it only 2 miles from my place. in fact... rach can bring the boys in her car and i'll ride my bike if it wasnt for that, then i would have gone for tan hill. cracking roads oop there, but it always rains oop norf.
  10. too loose and you run the risk of the chain jumping of the sprocket. too tight and it could actually turn your rear suspension into a "rigid" by stopping the swing arm from moving upwards. or snap the chain. get it sorted sooner than rather than later.... Mole Grips ????? FFS. go borrow the correct tools. including a torgue wrench if possible. the last thing you need is a rear wheel coming loose. if in doubt, get help.

  16. you dont have to spend a mint on kit. i bought a pair of second hand alpinestars smx gortex boots on ebay for 40quid 6 years ago. and i have never had so much as a damp toe in all that time. my alpinestars 365 gloves have remained waterproof since i bought them. i paid 45 new instead of 150ish as they had a split seam that needed a few stiches replacing. my textile jacket and trousers keep 95% of the weather out and i have a heine gericke over suit that cost a fiver at the bmf which takes case of any heavy downpour. get searching on the net for some decent kit a bargain prices, but do it before the nasty weather arrives as the demand for them will increase.

    Hello and help

usual suspects for non starting bikes.. ..not sure if they all apply to to yours though. but it may shed some light on the subject. some bikes require the clutch pulling in to allow them to start, if the switch isnt working/connected then no starty. battery charge to low to engage the starter relay (usually accompanied by a click or clicky clicky clicky clicky sound) sidestand switch stuck. only applicable if your trying to start it in gear. starter fuse blown or relay defective. loose starter connection. and even a dodgy starter switch. hope it helps point you in some sort of direction.

    Rear tyre wear

dimmers, what bike are they for? and what is your riding style/requirements? are you a winter rider or fair weather only? whats your annual mileage?
  23. i have bought a genuine hjc tinted visor from ebay last year. came from a seller in korea and took a couple of days to arrive, but even with the shipping costs it was about 2/3 of the cost in the UK. for the same visor made in the same factory.. good old rip off britain.

    Rear tyre wear

personally, i wouldnt be concerned by the puncture marks as it is common for small stones to break the surface. but if it concerns you then get your bike to a tyre fitter for a "pro" opinion. things like cracks/splits or strange/uneven tyre wear are more concerning . as for the squaring off.. depends entirely on your riding style. if you spend most of your time upright and not chucking it round corners then a square tyre will not matter. after all, tourers have a much squarer profile than sports bikes. if you like to attack the corners then the squared "edge" will offer less grip and a strange wiggle as the bike starts to lean over. but this will pass as the angle of lean takes you past the " square edge" and onto the lesser worn sides of the tyres. hope this helps
