    Rear tyre wear

do you refer to the amount of tread left or the puncture marks? (prob caused by gravel and road chippings)
  2. if they come on and stay on then you have a negative return path for the current (earth) back to the battery. so that isnt the issue. as tango said, LED indicators dont always work on standard flasher units. especially older bikes. i had a similar issue on my '83 gsx400 when i put led tail light/indicator combo on.
  3. sod the film. read his biography. anyone with an interest in bikes will love it. he was an absolute biking god.
  4. well. after 515 miles of riding up to and tazzing around the lakes i can now say that these are worth the money. i bought the scala g4 multiset with the corded mics for full face helmets for £295. came from italy but are the same spec as the uk ones, just a lot cheaper. in the uk, the corded mic kit for two g4's retails at about £100. thats on top of the multiset at £300+. the bike to bike comms worked well. only at 95mph did they start to crackle which could be down to wind noise from rachs hjc lid as she couldnt here the crackle that i could.. range was more than enough with atleast 3/4 of a mile between bikes. the vox works fine, as did the fm radio. the connectivity to my nokia N8 was excellent (it even worked with an i-phone 4 ). both voice activated telephone calls and listening to MP3s were clear. audio quality suffers slightly at speed due to wind noise as i ride an unfaired tuono v-twin. the wind noise overpowered the bass notes leaving the sound a bit tinny. i am sure if you have better wind protection on yours then you will be even more impressed. the sat nav in my n8 phone sends voice instructions to the helmet at the same time as playing MP3s which was useful. the G4 lasted all weekend without needing recharging. all in all. highly recomended and talking bike to bike was really useful. i relayed back to rachel when it was clear to pass. this took the stress out of making progress on unfamiliar twisty roads and increased her enjoyment of the whole weekend.
  5. back from the lakes and now on a downer... f**k it.
  6. amen to that brother.

  9. some are gravity fed. depends on the fuel demands of the bike. and its age.
  10. ouch. it could have been worse and the over voltage damaged even more than it did. foz. even non injection bikes can have fuel pumps.
  11. must be one of those foreign bikes
  12. just ordered the scala g4 multiset. as i use full face helmets, i ordered them with the slimline wired mics instead of the mic on a stick. my only concern will be any wind noise from the unit when attached to the side of the helmet. i'll report back once i've tested them.
  13. the MT vehicles we have in the RAF have a system like this fitted. it measures your lateral g-force and your speed as logged by the GPS against your position on the road. it then reports any speeding or excessive cornering back to the MT section. who then happily bolock you and fine you. its not 100% accurate and despised by all the drivers. but it is blooddy effective though once you know its fitted.
  14. only rear facing speed cameras would be effective. why slow down for a revenue generating front facing camera if it cannot see your plate? proper road markings and shell grip on junctions/nasty bends reduce accidents more than cameras do.
  15. for those who arent familiar with bike electrics.. the running engine generates a voltage which is fed to the reg rec where it is smoothed (rectified) and regulated to a maximum voltage (about 14v). this is then fed to both the battery to charge it and to the rest of the bikes electrical circuits. all the battery does is start the bike or power the electrical circuits if the engine is not running. volt meters have inaccuracies of less than 5% ( for a real cheap one). as this is only about 0.6v max at these voltages so i wouldnt worry about it. if a bike has fuel injection then this will account for the voltage dropping a tad when you rev it, the injectors and fuel pump are under load when revving. when it idles this load will drop and the voltage across the battery/meter will rise. from my experience when a reg rec fails your bike wont charge your battery and this'll lead to spluttering as the voltage drops and the ecu/injectors/pump all fight for the available voltage. the spluttering is most evident under acceleration for the reasons mentioned in above para. it will get worse as days go by as the battery gets drained. charging the battery will mask the problem for a day or two until its voltage drops again. start the bike, let it idle. put your meter across the battery terminals and if all is ok you should see 12-14v. if you see less then 10-11 v then your reg rec is not supplying adequate voltage and will require further investigating. if you have the correct voltage and your battery still dies after a few days then i would suggest your battery is dying. they all die eventually. it only takes one dead cell to ruin its charging ability. if in doubt, take it to a garage, they prob wont charge you to check it as it takes 5 mins and they will expect to make their money from flogging you a battery or reg rec. hope this is of help.
  16. two of my current bikes
  17. 90% yes. just need to check on dog sitter/kennels. i'll see if rach fancies it too. can i just confirmn teh dates? arriving on fri 19th aug and depart on the sunday?
  18. also. the warmer the decals the better ther result. a warm decal will stretch and follow the contours of the fairing without leaving creases in it. i found a hair dryer helped when replacing the whole fairing decals on my rsv factory.
  19. I think that would be me thats cos you lost and took a 3 hour detour
  20. well you are middle aged, single and riding a blokes bike. so it was a fair assumption to make x
