  1. I have decided that i am going to put in the effort now and pass both my bike and car tests by the end of the year. The car test is the most useful of course (job wise) but I decided to put the majority of my efforts (and money) into passing my bike test first seen as i already own a motorbike. So yes, my first ever theory test is booked for the 29th of March 2011. I have one of the latest CD rom training aids which will teach you both bike and car theory. But i was wondering.... If you have the ability to pass the bike theory test, do you think you have the ability to go ahead and pass the car theory test straight away? I mean the highway code is the same right (except the section just for motorcycles). Any other advice or tips?
  2. I might have a word, im going down to the showroom tomorrow to talk about the repair work on my bike. The dent isnt a huge issue for me, i can live with it, sort of a reminder to be extra careful. The repair so far is costing me just over 500 quid, the majority of that is to replace the clocks and the headlight (the clocks literally shattered), unlucky for me these are both very expensive parts and again, 2010 model so second hand parts are hard to find and any non official part is just not gonna look as good when it comes to reselling the bike in the future. So yeah the first step is to repair the mechanical stuff (slightly bent handlebars, foot peg, break lever, clocks, headlight), then when i get the bike home im gonna sort out anything minor and cosmetic myself. The odds are when im finished the only give away that the bike has not had a perfect life will be the dent. Ive been told brand new petrol tank is likely to set me back about 400 quid. It just aint worth it. And anyone buying a learner bike shouldnt be too fussed about a dent in the fuel tank, end of the day its a YBR 125, less than 1000 miles, in perfect mechanical order, always been kept clean and stored inside. They will get a good price for it if they can live with a dent. Learner / commuter bikes are just that... they are to get people from A to B. Tho been my first ever big purchase as an adult it is my pride and joy.
  3. Parts for 2010 models are harder to come by right now.
  4. When I came off my YBR after slipping on tram lines my bike hit the floor and rolled. The force of this bent the handlebars and knocked the steering out of alignment so my ignition starter on the handlebars hit the side of my petrol tank, leaving a decent size dent. This is a purely cosmetic issue so I am not going to spend hundreds of pounds replacing the fuel tank. what I am wondering is if anyone here with more experience than me could suggest an alternative solution? Attached is an image of the damage for what its worth. http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/8125/dentx.jpg
  5. Yes the front break was in, and i am not sure if it was a clicking sound, but it was a sound right at the bottom, it could have been anything. The forks went up and down smoothly, but i guess this is why i need to take it to the garage to find out for sure, cause if the forks are bent i might as well sell the f**king thing for what ever i can get , i cant afford new forks + everything else it needs.
  6. I have been looking at my bike today after a crash, and i pushed down on my handlebars, when i push them right down to the bottom i hear like a click or some kind of noise. Do you guys know if this is normal? I dont think my forks are catching, they felt fine, i am just trying to find out if this little noise i heard was normal for front forks.
  7. i cant find them on ebay tho :S could you link me to one please? maybe i am just crap at searching, but i could only see about 10 different parts for ybr
  8. aye it really does, cheers mate!
  9. Yeah i was thinking along the same lines with regards to replacing it. Next time i am with my bike I will get under and look how they are connected to the bike. And yeah, i might give it a good "hand wash" that way i can avoid getting water down ( this: http://img703.imageshack.us/f/imag0073t.jpg/ (going to set me back about 150 quid to replace that ) http://img109.imageshack.us/f/imag0072d.jpg/ (but im hoping the light will just click back into place lol)
  10. As you can see from this picture: http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/1859/imag0077i.jpg My foot peg is bent. What do you think I should do? Short term, try and hammer / bend it back? Or should i replace it? It does not look as bent as I originally thought it was (judging by the pic i have taken). That pic also made me realise i really need to clean my bike i bet its going rusty in that garage all dirty (hadnt been cleaned for 2 weeks before i fell off). But I dont want to risk it with my exposed electrics lol.
  11. Traffic lights at the bottom of moorgate... here is one place i tend to find myself stuck in traffic. It can move fast sometimes but when its pissing it down and cold and dark, would you filter there?
  12. This might sound like a stupid question and no doubt I am going to get flamed for daring to ask it... Can you only filter when there is more than one lane of traffic going in your direction? Lets say you were on a main road that is a single carridgeway at peak time, your side of the road always has people lined up for a long time, but the other side of the road with cars coming towards you, traffic is flowing basically like normal. Is this a situation you would filter? Can you filter down the left hand side of the cars if there is enough space between the cars and the curb? Please note I have never done the above, I am still a filter virgin, I am one of the idiots who sits in the traffic with the cars.
  13. Might be a bit far for me, but thanks tho. I will look into it more, i was just hoping to find a dvd or something like an official product like a step by step guide to preparing for your mod1 and mod2 tests. Ive found a lot of great topics on here tho, so thats a positive.
  14. Just to clarify my location is Sheffield / Rotherham The driving school i did my CBT with offer a free assesment ride. I am going to do that so they can give me a price, but people have told me they tend to be quite high for full tests. Also, i am on youtube right now looking at videos of the mod 1 test. Could someone clarify the licensing part of my post for me? If i pass on my own 125 will i just have a restricted bike (33bhp) for 2 years? I dont want them to give me one of those "light motorcycle licenses".
  15. I have already decided that I want to pass my full bike license, but all the training schools want like £700 to do it and that is just too much for me, I would have to save for at least 2 months to afford that cutting out most of lifes luxuries, and just before xmas too!). I am just trying to figure out what my alternatives are, i am hoping for some kind of compromise between self training and a few days with a driving school, which should at least cut the price of the process in half if i am lucky. It is my understanding that if i pass the test on my 125 I will have to have a restricted bigger bike for 2 years, but it is also my understanding that if i pass on my 125 i wont have to pay bike schools for bike hire etc... Is there any other way I could get my hands on a bigger bike to use? Bare in mind i have no friends lol. And finally, are there any books or DVDs out there which focus on the mod1 and mod2 tests? Or pretest training. Pointing out all the things you need to know / do. For example until reading this forum today I did not know that you should do a life saver over both shoulders before setting off, nobody told me about this or enforced it on my CBT.
  16. Wow all these solutions are so expensive. I find it insulting that helmet manufacturing companies charge you an arm and a leg for a helmet, yet you have to go out and spend more money before you can use it for what you need it for (riding with a visor down while been able to see). £20 for a pinlock w/e that is... £10 for spray which wont last long. Pretty ridiculous.
  17. Ok ive done nearly 300 miles since getting my bike the other week and i would say 90% of the time i have been riding around with my visor up. Which is nice when your boiling hot, but not very nice when your doing 50 or 60mph in the freezing cold with tears been streamed across your frozen face. I find every time i put the thing down it steams up within a minute. I have heard of sprays and things, but i have no idea what to do or whos advise to trust. I plan a trip to halfords this week to get the gear to clean my bike properly, does anyone know of something i could pick up there that would do the trick?
  18. CBT is today guys! Wish me luck! I am very nervous for some reason, I think its because going out on the roads was such a disaster last time, and the weather is pretty naff today. Could be worse! Will update this post tonight to let you know how it went. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Ok I did my CBT today and it went really well actually. There was 3 of us to 1 instructor which was a pain when it came to going on the roads but it has been good. I did it on a moped and had it confirmed that i can still go home now and ride a geared bike, will take a bit of getting used to, but i learnt a lot today. All the slow moving stuff / starting the bike, no problem with that. On the roads the only mistake i made (that was pointed out to me) was going through a few amber lights, and 1 red light (last second change). The only reason i did that was because i was at the back of the group on busy roads and i did not want to get cut off from them. Its been a great day, really lifted my confidence, i finally beat what beat me last summer. Very excited about getting my bike now. Just need to sort out insurance.
  19. My bike is going to be stored in a garage at night, and in a locked compound at work. I am looking for some extra security features for when I park it outside shops, boxing gym etc... Especially the gym, its not in the best part of the city. Of course I am going to buy a chain asap, but of course sometimes there will be nothing around to chain the bike to. Any suggestions would be welcome.
  20. Finally managed to get a CBT booking, I was expecting to get booked in this week but all the local riding schools were jam packed, but lucky for me there was a cancellation at the place I tried to do my CBT last summer but failed. I will post next tuesday night with my experience, right after i get my insurance and arrange to pick up my bike on wednesday!
