Sounds like pinking or pre-ignition. Check ignition timing, if you can't sort it in short term , put some super unleaded in and see if it goes away? -
Easy job. Buy a Haynes manual and the bits. If you struggle PM ya number and I'll talk you through it?

No mate, I'm going to tell you to DO IT YER BLOODY SELF !!! You will be giving money away and learning nothing about yer bike.Bearing replacement is pi$$ easy and both bearings can be done in 1/2 hour. If you can afford it , good luck to ya, just don't expect any advice from me

Must be just around my way then! Always used to be good B roads in Derbyshire, but it's 20 odd years since I last rode em. I'll go with the flow then

Appreciate the work you guys are putting into this, but I was hoping to do some fast, B roads. Are those A roads busy and have regular police patrols or are they quiet. Not that I speed, much?. Just enjoy B roads more with less traffic and attention!!!

You can run it on prime, but if you leave it on you risk filling your engine with fuel and hydraulic locking a cylinder and possibly serious damage to the engine. Not common ,but possible.

Can we see some pix please mate. Treat rust with WD40 to loosen it, wire wool to remove rust particles, degrease with brake cleaner and Hammerite paint on top .

There should be a bit of side play mate, but not too much. Is it very shiny at the base of the teeth, pull it forward and measure how much movement?

The spindle doesn't turn and so doesn't need lubrication. However, since it doesn't get inspected very often, it can get moisture and hence rust on it. Take it out, clean rust off, polish it and apply a thin smear of grease on it.

Just give spindle a good clean up and smear any old grease or oil on it. Don't need anything special.

They didn't bother to polish up the welds on the Delkevic, but it's not a difficult job to get em looking like chrome. They look better than the Motad with those ugly balance pipes !!!

Didn,t say that,s how long it would take, just how many hours they would charge for!!!
