  1. The best place I went to because of the Challenge was Applecross. Brilliant road, views and lunch.

  3. Your welcome. I have made a small modification to mine to keep them more open and in place. I cut a small hole so the bar end weight could go on the outside. On the throttle side I used some large washers as spacers so the muff did not rest on the throttle, which means it still springs back when I let go. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8504/8271761653_182e49470a_c.jpg
  4. Since you are going for the look, there are dual sport tyres that are more knobbly which will fit The Pirelli Scorpion Trail http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/oncirrus/3/images/product/enlarge/pir_scorpion-trail.jpg The Metzeller Lazertec http://www.metzeler.com/site/mediaObject/MetzelerSite/CommonImg/Product/Tyres/Lasertec/catalogue_lasertec_325x200_jpeg/original/catalogue_lasertec_325x200_jpeg.jpg which appear to come in the right sizes of 100/90 x 18 and 130/80 x 17.
  5. Top job
  6. This cannot be right https://www.gov.uk/ride-motorcycle-mope ... nuary-2013 It suggests if you are 17 and over you do not need to do a CBT anymore to ride a 125cc bike. A1 - Small motorcycles up to 11 kW (and a power-to-weight ratio not more than 0.1 kW per kg) and 125 cc - Theory test, practical test - 17 So as soon as you turn 17 buy a Vespa and ride straight of the dealers with a L Plate on
  7. I don't get this list of suitable bikes http://assets.dft.gov.uk/dsa-bl/dsa-mot ... -jan13.pdf It suggests only two Vespas are suitable as 125cc bikes
  8. I had trouble shooting suspension, so I went back to shooting pheasants.
  9. Sorry, Joe, Alex, panicking when seeing the police or a speed trap and then either driving badly or crashing, is that not the kind of driving you would criticise of with others? One day in court "Your honour, it was the police's fault that I crashed as they made mine eyes bleed and brain explode"
  10. Many camera vans are now out catching untaxed and uninsured drivers. I know you want to blame the camera van for you and the others driving, but its was you fault, poor observations. Sorry
  11. Then complain to your council
  12. What really gets my goat is that my commute includes a road with a purpose made cycle lane, yet some cyclists insist on using the road and not the cycle lane.
  13. I would worry a shock tube would trap moisture.
  14. I got a bolt on one.
  15. Mine were £10 from J&S and I really like them. I think I will switch from belt to braces with my jeans as well.
  16. I was advised a hugger was good for my Versys due to where the rectifier is positioned. I got one and no crud issues. I think that bikes tend to be built for drier climates than ours, so there are three standard problems with new bikes sold in the UK 1 - no hugger 2 - the front fender is too short 3 - the side stand foot is too small. That is fine if your are going to be fair weather only biker, but rubbish if you plan to ride in the wet, even more so on country roads and cannot always park where there is hard tarmac.
  17. http://www.worcesternews.co.uk/news/956 ... __sneaky_/ I saw two cops not in hi viz with no signs or sign of a marked car in Belfast. It was a 70mph dual carriageway that turned into a 30mph limit where the houses started. They were stood in front of a big advertising hording and I only saw them as I was entering the 30mph limit. The road was so straight it would be easy to stop cars and safe. Just as it was with the little village in Fife. I think the hi viz and signs etc as an officer safety requirement not the law. So if it is safe not to use them, so be it. The bottom line was in Belfast I could see the change of speed limit and houses start from a long way way away and the village in Fife is clearly marked 20mph with narrow streets and houses right on the narrow pavement. So those who claim the police are being sneaky, what more warning do you need of a speed limit?
  18. Bought July 2012, came with bike. Mine are marked Kawasaki, but they are Givi V35s. They start about £260 on the internet, the frames start at about £100. http://www.givi.co.uk/img/20602-r-62280/Monokey--Side-V35.jpg GOOD The monokey system of one key to lock them and then lock them to the frame works well. Waterproof, sturdy, feel very solid. They are a good size, 34l each, which I find is a supermarket bag for life stuffed full with room for other small items. MEDIUM Initially they are a pain to open and close and fit to the rack, but with use that got easier. I am going to get the optional inner bags to make it easier to pack and carry stuff and so items do not fall out when you open them. BAD The optional paint protection stick on stuff is a pain to fit and marks, so what is the point?
  19. Bought October 2012, £200 (were £350) J&S. http://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/x/ixsraider01_5.jpg GOOD Warm, waterproof, the lining does not stick to my legs. Comfortable The pockets are easy to access, big and waterproof. They fit over big boots. MEDIUM The usual IXS issue of big sizing. There is no waist adjustment so I bought braces for £10 to make sure they stay on. BAD Nothing.
  20. Bought May 2012, £150 from J&S http://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/160x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/x/ixsmadox01_3.jpg GOOD Everything you need a boot to do, the gortex lining has kept my feet dry, no sweat and they are comfortable. They feel well made and are holding up well to daily use, rain or shine The price, they are cheap for gortex. MEDIUM The sizing is odd, but I find all of IXS stuff is on the large size and I get a size smaller than I would do with other boots. BAD Nothing.
  21. Update, these gloves are superb. I have been touring in appalling rain and they stayed dry. The drawstring works well as I do not need to try and tuck the gloves under my jacket sleeve, just pull the string and they tighten so no leaks. Best was their performance when I had to put very wet hands into them, then rode for an hour in very heavy rain and found my hands had dried out. The gortex lining clearly works very well.
  22. The ones I saw were not in hi viz, there was no warning, no car nearby I could see. I am also sure one was a sergeant the other was definitely an Inspector, which is odd. My attitude is that with reasonable observations people should not be caught. Those who complain about cameras being money makers are just looking to excuse their own behaviour as if they had done nothing wrong.
  23. From what I have read so far it seems those who like a bit of speeding and appreciate times they have been warned are then more likely to warn others.
  24. I went through a speed trap today, the cop did not even bother to raise the hand held radar as I went past doing about 15mph in a 20mph zone I know well and agree with anyway. No one was coming the other way for me to warn, but I don't warn others anyway. What do you do? The other side of the coin is that I have not been saved from a speed trap by another motorist as I really try to be careful and so far so good.
  25. For no points, a photo of the correct Forth Bridge http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8200/8202025625_9bc2787a8d_c.jpg
