What did you do WITH your bike today.
Interference Fit replied to Trooper74's topic in Motorbike Chat
Yep, it's tough when you just want to ride but the roads are terrible. I know it's a choice what weather we ride in, but I see no fun in getting cold and wet and the bike filthy. Roll on Spring and Summer. -

Last one only, but only because I saw I figured it out when used in obvious context of an accident.

I'm comfortable with it, the only thing that caught me out a couple of times was when reaching for the right hand indicator with my thumb, I inadvertently would on a little throttle, which nearly threw me off the back of the bike. The torque is like being hit by a truck from behind. -

It's absolutely bone stock and I don't feel the need (for me) to change anything. I'm surprised at how loud the stock exhaust is. I was expecting it to be really quiet, but I'd not want it any louder. My wife heard me coming from the far end of the road. At the first roundabout I was subconsciously braced to see what was required to get it to tip in and lean over, but it just went over with countersteering and was really responsive to small countersteer adjustments to find the right line. It must be my lack of experience on other bikes, but at no point did I feel I "really had to muscle it in" - just push the bar and it leans. I also found neutral no problem, so no idea what all that fuss is about. Brakes are great too. Separate indicator buttons was interesting. -

Because I'm no longer bent forwards with weight on my wrists, I'll have to ensure good posture so my back doesn't round, but yes, it's like sitting at a table at a restaurant on a really comfy chair with your hands resting either side of your cuttlety - just feels very natural. I thought I might not like the floor boards, but they're fantastic too, as is the general feet forward position. Honeymoon period of course, but great so far. -

Had my first ride on the Fat Boy today, which was also my first ever ride on a Harley. What a bike, I love it. I'd read so much negativity about how they feel and handle but I found it an absolute joy. It's the bike equivalent of my old Corvette Stingray. Awesome amount of torque, too - it's no slouch. It makes me grin like a Cheshire cat and is so much more comfortable than the CBR, and most importantly, is just as enjoyable plodding through a 20 zone as it is on higher speed sweeping bends. Brilliant piece of hardware. -

Haha - yes HIM in this case is the bike, and I'm not one to give names to inanimate objects, but 'Hank' is different.... Speed is the one thing I'm not chasing, that's for sure - the CBR was more than fast enough for me, too fast at higher revs to be fair - just wanted to go and go. I'm looking for it's USP prowling about at much lower speeds and not having to think about where the next twisties are. I just want to sit back (upright) relax and cruise along feeling special with a smile on my face, enjoying the scenery whist the bucket list gets ticked. -

I only took three to be fair, just to send to my Dad. I'll tax it on Thursday when we kick into February, then if the roads are dry at the weekend, take it for a little scoot about to get to know him. I've got to keep in mind that I'm still very much a new, novice rider with only 800 miles experience under my belt on a 650cc, so this is a totally different world that I want to approach with caution. I was pleasantly surprised with how nice it sounds though for a bone stock, Euro 5 exhaust - plenty loud enough for my middled-aged, mild-mannered, clerical gentleman status - "walk softly and carry a big stick". -

Touch screens rather than buttons. I'll sleep better if an OEM just admitted that a single self contained TFT unit with touch screen is less expensive to produce than panels with a variety of illuminated buttons / wiring, and that the leaning this way is about cost saving and not about improving CX.

Pod is best part of 4 hours each way for me, so would need to be a camping weekend personally, but as long as the weather is on your side, it's always a good day/weekend, although the gate prices have got a bit 'wincy' post Covid.

My problem with EVs is that I'm a car enthusiast at heart and enjoy the complete package and visceral experience they bring. Best way I can sum up my apathy toward EVs is to watch the intro sequence to the the movie Cannonball Run with, and then without the sound switched on. Just not same without that howling V12 screaming away. I spend a fair few weekends at Santa Pod watching various forms of drag racing. There is nothing more dull than a Tesla or whatever running silently up the track, no matter how fast. Likewise, Formula E - no thanks. I'm only just clinging on to my interest in F1 by the skin of my teeth thanks to the soulless V6 hybrids. I appreciate my approach is one based on passion and history and not as a transportation means to an end, but that's how I see it. Yes I've driven plenty of EVs and yes, I 'get it' and yes they're fast, but I just can't get excited by them - far too benign and synthetic.

I'd guess two elements are at play. 1) Homologation, construction and use rules maybe dictate no sharp edges, minimum viewing angle coverage etc, etc which maybe dictate bland and boring (ugly) designs? 2) Gives the opportunity to make profit selling upgrades? But I fully agree. The current licence plate position mandates have created a big business in tail tidies - I mean look at this....

Love quick shifters Love adjustable reach brake / clutch levers Love secure feeling of DD rings on the helmet strap Love helmet chin curtains Love that my jacket zips to my jeans Dislike the inability to fasten DD rings whilst wearing gloves Dislike mirror positioned to give you a great view of your arms and elbows Dislike that almost all gloves have fingers too short for my excessively long fingers causing them to go tight when I grip anything

Used bike with high number of owners - an issue?
Interference Fit replied to Interference Fit's topic in Motorbike Chat
There is that I guess, but that also carries the counter argument that more owners means more deferred maintenance. On reflection, I'll stick to one or two enthusiastic and meticulous owners - best of both scenarios. -

Yeah, mainly because it’s bright orange with blue and green and not very ‘Harley’. I looked at the Glamster but too many reviews say its very noisy and quiet is a key factor for me. I don’t want an internal visor or modular/flip up design and I’m happy with a sporty appearance. I hadn’t considered painting it and I have all the gear so that could be an option, although I’d need to look into chemical degradation of the shell with inappropriate paint.
