  1. PS, the jacket has back, shoulder and elbow CE armour. PLus a very warm zip-out thermal liner. The back armour is soft but can be replaced with a rigid back protector as an option.
  2. I have the same Spada that Techno posted - got it from Hunt's Honda in Manchester and I rate it highly, especially for the money.
  3. They showed this clip like 5 times during the race and it certainly was a highlight despite the fine performance by numbers 1 and 2. All I can is ouch... that lolly moves fast!
  4. Just watched this on *ahem* view on demand. WHAT A RACE! What a huge race for Rossi and Stoner - last year (my first year watching moto GP ever) I thought Rossi was a bit of a w**ker for blaming Stoner's skill on the tires... This year though I see he is a true god. Rossi and Stoner were like 22 secs. ahead of the unwashed masses == oh dear. To top it off, did anyone notice what the brolly girls on the podium were wearing... *engine revving sound* lol.
  5. Agree with Parapan - you can get perfectly functional and safe textiles if you are on a budget - I have a Spada jacket (~£85), Lewis trousers (~80) and gloves (~25) and Hein Gerricke waterproof leather boots (~120) - all bought at various places. This stuff has kept me warm and dry in pretty horrendous weather. To do over on my learning set of kit, the only change I'd make is a better pair of gloves. Hein Gerricke stuff is top shelf - my wife has a full textile suit from them and it is very high quality, but a fair bit more pricey. I've kind of been looking at new jackets that has an inner cuff for gloves - I'll probably get one of the Rev'it all-season ones, which are rated all around.
  6. I haven't seen yesterday's race yet but for my money JT is near the top in delivering exciting racing week after week. Cut the guy some slack - for his first year out and early in the season in moto GP he's performing like a superstar in my opinion... Having said that and in light of some of the other things in that article, I much rather see rossi dominating and JT working for it just off the podium slots than endure lorenzo's lolli or stoner's brooding.
  7. Sounds a little like you have been wheelying... if you have and it could have caused the problem, you probably don't have a leg to stand on. I have heard that pulling big wheelies often can bugger up the oil flow in some engines, causing engine wear (not to mention damage to wheel bearings and general wear and tear due to mechanical stress over time). My feeling based on logic is that motor engineering to optimize oil flow for prolonged wheelies might be low on the priority list for many manufacturers! But what do I know? There is a legal expert on the forum here (Bikelegal) - he might pipe in on your legal rights...
  8. Just got this by email from admin here:

    repair manuals

Actually, that Carl Salter link that Gary poster (and the older one above) serves the purpose I was thinking of! I must find the time to digitize my never manuals...

    repair manuals

Would it be possible to have a forum digital library of manuals? I have aquired a handful myself...
  11. Just to pipe in, my wife has a gz125 that had very, very similar problems recently. With some help via PMs with gary_w (thanks again gary_w!), everything was sorted after lubricating the choke cable guides and it runs brilliantly now. 8)
  12. Suzuki for quality and resale value. My wife has one and she likes it a lot. I have ridden it around a fair bit (even a 10 mile ride on the motorway getting it home!) and it is pretty fun to ride on actually. I'm 6'2'' and have no trouble with it. The feet forward position and low seat height makes it fairly comfy.
  13. This is exactly what I was thinking...
  14. Not that this got a ton of reponse when I posted it before ( - I think it is a bit of a Yank thing, hence my innate interest), but I was recently contacted and learned a last minute spot opened up for this event and I was offered the spot. I applied for a spot on the day it was announced and there were only 50 spots... I'll keep you informed
  15. I want to go to this but am still undecided whether I can make one of the days. My wife is having 2 full days of DAS training on Sat and Sun (her test is next week) and I have both kids... If the weather is good I may drive there with the tots! I want to have a look at some bikes... when the wife gets her licence, she inherits the bandit...

    Helmet poll

I have a Shoei Raid 2 and like it well enough - it is a bit loud for wind noise at 50+ though...
  17. Oops - I missed this or I would have invited you to ride to work with me this morning early. The snake pass was lovely, dry and I had great weather on both sides of the hills again. I could get used to this weather....
  18. I would love a shortish trip (not as long as a week) around Scotland - I thought the 3 peaks idea sounded great - I just neglected to pipe in I think I saw the article where a guy rode a scooter to them (or something like that). I've recently seen a few claims of "the best fish and chips in the UK" being in Scotland and think it would be fun to test those out too... Is there a good biking reason to go all the way to JOG (other than to say you did it)? Early September over a 4-5 day weekend could work for me - perfect timing actually.
  19. Back safe and sound - I had a great day - thanks to everyone. Big thanks to philgale and jonesy - the new roads and riding was awesome. Thanks also to everyone nwho turned up - especially Willow and Akey for hosting! I even got some sun, albeit only on about 3 in.^2 of my face!
  20. Translation: I've been practicing for 20 hours per day and you are in big trouble!
  21. It is very strange to read this... my wife has a 125 intruder doing exactly the same thing. She had a DAS lesson last weekend and said it was stalling out a bit at low revs and "sounded funny" when starting/re-starting up. I haven't had a chance to investigate but will check the spark plugs first. Hers tends to rev pretty low at idle and I thought maybe it needed adjusting or something. If I recall correctly it was a bit wet last weekend - hopefully that is the cause!
  22. I'm planning to attend this "do" now - just signed up. Can't decide whether I'll be up to getting up early enough to meet at Matlock or meet closer to Manchester at the Cat and Fiddle... If anybody is coming from near Manchester and wants to meet up let me know My wife might be interested in coming just for/with pud (she'd be driving with kids) - are kids welcome at the abode of Akey/Willow?
  23. My current bike is an inline 4 - my next bike will most likely be a 2 cylinder of some description...

    music

I listen to music all the time while riding - not so loud that I can't hear the bike and other road sounds. I have used inside the ear buds and just my ipod, but I've fitted an autocom to use with my tomtom and the ipod and love it with fixed speakers in my helmet. I plan to start wearing earplugs for long rides to get away from the wind noise at speed...
  25. I rode my first bike years ago in the states and filtering isn't legal like it is here (at least in Florida where I grew up - every state is potentially different). When I first started riding in the UK ~6 months ago, I wasn't confident filtering ever - I even tried it a few times and it didn't feel right. Lately as I've gained confidence riding in traffic more (mostly from a fair amount of miles during a temporary commute a few days per week to Sheffield from Manchester), I've started filtering more. I generally only go on the right side and preferrably if there are two lanes going in my direction, or if the lane is wide, and the traffic is stopped. It is a bit addictive if it can be safely done... One place I love to do it now is at a congested roundabout on my route where I pass a huge queue and slip in right at the turn-off. Muahahaha. I don't take every opportunity to filter though - sometimes if there isn't a clear gain to be made, like getting to the front of a queue at a light, I just relax and sit there.
