  1. I’ll assume it’s still std? My 2005 gsf 650 bandit like the older ones definitely didn’t come doesn’t come with immobiliser as std. Its probably an old school flat key. Yea agree with MB you need to know what the immobiliser is? so sounds like aftermarket, if your handle to the old key is very noticeably chunkier than the metal plate, the transponder (the size of a small tablet) is in there. As MB says try with the old one touching and see if not it may have damaged the transponder. Or unless you had a flob? If you are still using the flob and no joy I’d go with Above but more likely you may have broken or moved the antenna (thin wire) which is often touching or wrapped around the barrel or frame to sense the correct key.
  2. Yeah found some have plugs (cbf and gsf) and Some don’t (zx6r,benelli,Daytona). honest they are there for a reason (breathing and pumping) because you can’t put it out in the atmosphere or the ground directly anymore and very new bikes have carbon canister. A little bit of water (moisture build up) is fine but a lot of either is not. if you notice more than a few drops (if your a old British bike or ktm owner it needs to more than a weep) half or more than espresso cup worth often after a stop needs investigation.
  3. Not sure which thread this sits best with so I’ll go with the view of seasonal riders fail at the basics and makes it worse for others. nipped out nothing special just a quick loop. Traffic was horrendous but I was still in good spirits without filtering until: My local and regular petrol station for fuel and the odd thing for years, never a problem. Roll into the usual pump on the right (p1) which is easily seen by all vehicles when they enter the yard up so they can see this pump is in use before they roll up, *I’ve been nearly caught out by cars in a rush and driving into the back of the bike like that as they don’t look beyond the bonnet and the shops window scene is blurry and off set of sight when turning in*. I’m always wary of the floor so I stop where less shite is there. now the counter is to the left, not out of sight but not very direct eye line if you dont park the front of the bike 10foot back from the pump which I do not. Plus they have cameras about. Start filling the bike up as usual, about half way filled notice this young lady wondering over and shouting some random nonsense but thought at first it was to the person on the other side. to be honest i wasn’t tuned into to people , had my plus in and as I was more interested about refilling the tank… it came apparent she was a worker there shouting some obsence spiel about from a pump and a half away: “you can’t fill it up!” What? why? “You can’t fill it up (x2)” why can’t I fill it up? “you can’t fill it up without the side stand down…..you cant fill it unless your off the bike” why? Been here loads, Never been a problem before, why you have a problem now? wheres the instructions of law or your company policy her (pointing at the pump) to say otherwise here?? She get the guy at the counter to cut the pump. “you might slip and fall over, spill you whole tank and ignite the fuel and set yourself on fire!” what sort of nonsense are you on about? (I’m think we’re more likely to have a problem while she goes on about her shite) then her reason changed, “its because we have new pumps….and they block views and….” what new pumps? The same ones with the same old duct tape holding the covers??? What sort of bs is that? Which pumps then do I have to use the? “if you use those two pumps over there you can be seen?” So rising to the challenge of this workers view i said so where does it say that then? ”you still have to be off then” Wonders to the counter quite miffed saying: Pump 1 if you couldnt see or tell, better be quick incase the bike or i spontaneous combust or something. he gave the same “bs of the new pumps” around customers and when I said which new ones? The old ones with duct tape holding the covers? “yes…” well now for a H&S bs. she was struggling to hand carry a bag of sand (rather than the man behind the counter) with the thinnest plastic bag across the yard and bays failing to deposit into the little buckets while vehicles are being filled which is hazard of slipping. I managed to ride my bike even with millions of green flys, birds, sunburnt people, bank holiday rushes, get some fuel in (and get home) without not have an whoopies. if its that bad judging by the loads of dried diesel on the floor and pumps they shouldn’t let people fill their cars/vans themselves even when they’re stood up…. now as a note I find putting the bike upright and the nozzle more vertical down actually avoids spills as the all the fuel from the valve to the nozzle is out, when the bike is on the side stand you have it at an less angle so there is some fuel still left at the kink so when you move the nozzle it syphons out over the tank, floor or pump. tell you what I’ll go back with a 20ltr tank, stood up right next to the car and fill the tank stood up and spill a load of it on the floor, it will be fine….
  4. Id go with hairsys suggestion but if no luck try ignition for these reasons: Primary- Misfires are excess fuel passing through ignited cycle and later in the system. They can try to come off high idle a bit eagerly and sound alittle bit different but not to cut or bog. The bog is from it trying to come off the high idle too early and the ignition or sensor not completely working with it. Was the plug wet or sotty? if its a hard cut and very quick from high load then I’d be looking at the ignition.
  5. Yes a little bit is ok, especially when it seems to do it after a stop for a while. If there is lots and all the time then that’s not good. check the inside of the air box and filter, if there is very slight misting/fine coat then ok but keep an eye on it. Also now keep an eye on the engine oil level and its condition, that can give clues too. Just double check the engine spec of if its a dry sump or not, you need to check the level differently depending on which. also to note has the engine oil put in is spec different? That can change the behaviour and what comes out, some engines and oils like to burn and mist a bit while others don’t.
  6. Wow. Was it being used as a taxi? Even if it lost 50%in three years thats £26k. so at 6years it’s lost 85% for a still modern and yet relatively workable car for another 6-12years (probably worth a pound or more as scrap at that point) for a quite reputable brand and popular car… Ive had Italian cars and italese bikes hold their value better.
  7. Yes . never known a bike to much loose all three heat shields on the exhaust both wields and bolts (I even added loctite to the ones available yet even with that precaution) within a few hundred miles of each other they disappeared or id noticed it fell off turning around to collect it. pretty much roll forward off its sidestand when gently rev’d at a stand still, and its a smaller engine than the 800. ive had big triples (which are apparently inheritly not even in firing) and 700single that never did that.
  8. The harness attaches to the rider (waist) with grab handles for the pillion to hold on…much better than trying to wrap their arms around you waist or loose jacket also not having to grab around behind them to a rear handle (the bike I had had grab rails at the side which is far better but a harness is great. so if you was to speed off to quickly they will pull on you so you know to cool it (-if you got too excited). If you grab too much brake then theyre arms go around the sides while still having a good purchase of the handles, spreading the force onto you. also I found it less likely to bang helmets. you known where they by the tension of it…I found it reassuring.
  9. Its a primary safety feature when actually done properly and will only get worse…return it.
  10. Realistically it would be better and cheaper just to use/hire a training company bike.
  11. Difference is there wasn’t many good other options to go with and at that time learning and progress was being made to innovate (jap/euro/uk) to make better. while the Chinese is and most still is copy somewhere else, make cheaper to the price point that goes beyond creditable. until that business mind set (which only makes them competitive) is broken, is their own undoing if you completely ignore issues towards aggressive pushing out competitors throw flooding, cheap cost tactics and other very negative results.
  12. It wasn’t done properly would be the first thing. so list of many possibilities: old seal/gasket/shite still on. not correct or cheap gasket. Not correct or fitted correctly. bolts not torqued In orientation or correctly. Bolts not correct or in the correct hole. Cover or main body warped or uneven.
  13. Just sums up what many including myself have feared for so long yet those in the company (including the parent owners) didn’t want to know…
  14. To be honest fook these ignorant and uneducated muppets! These Aholes think filtering ain’t allowed! i have ridden with my only child, daughter who’s was only 7, I bought a bike so she could get on and off herself, all the best kit that was available to her, bought an extra comm system to go on her helmet so it she wanted to talk it was easy, I worn a harness for extra support to her which she hardly ever wanted to use. when the bike didn’t have a topbox for back support even when I looked high and low for one. I rode realistically, appropriately and extremely defensively to her needs only. A lot of time while the wife was on the 125 behind so even her mind was at extra ease and she was extremely protective than i was…. now I be honest this is very dependent on you, your attitude, your experience, your child, their attitude, your bike and kit. Over that it’s just finer details.
  15. The baffle - dependent on what the bike fueling was before as std throughtout rev range and gearing within what ever the temp it was set to be at. What effect it has to push it beyond the starting point- So I will generalise…it will run leaner, most of the time with injection they will run very lean mid range as to this day and age they are mostly tested and regulated heavily at this point. So what nearly all bikes and cars (sports exhaust) of mine taking the baffle out will lean the smeg out out it even if the ecu could make some adjustments within its program allowed, making it almost run big hole or almost stop a bike unless it got pass this rev range unless: the baffle was back in, a different exhaust was put on, the fuel was adjusted to cope or a different air filter (depending on std setup) was in. So really there isn’t a really fast route unless its completely bog standard and your prepared to make allowances for what has been done previously.
