dreadycraig Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Need to replace my tyres for the first time because the front is down to the wear blocks and the back has a flat spot.Roughly how much should a new tyre cost (fitted)? Just been quoted £120 front and £130 rear. £250 seems a lot of money for two tyres (or maybe i'm just tight!) Quote
Stu Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 what tyres do you want ? whats your riding style ? what size tyres i can see by your signiture the bikes a bandit right?read that post makes me think you need to read up on tyres there is a vast amount of tyres out there that are for different riding styles and bikes!Stu Quote
dreadycraig Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 I mainly commute but do go for long rides a couple of times a month. I commute year round but not in the rain if I can help it.So I just want a set of tyres for milage rather than performance, going to stick with Bridgstones as that's what's already on the bike. Sizes are Front: 120/60ZR17, Rear: 160/60ZR17.I've only been riding for a year so still don't really ride fast as I don't have the confidence to really go in fast on corners Quote
Guest Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 I usually pay about £200 for a pair fitted, but it depends on tyre size / make etc etc.£250 does sound a tad on the expensive side to me Find out which ones you want then do a search on google to get the best price. Quote
gixxer711 Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 ive got some part worn battlax's plus others cheap if interested ,, Quote
Guest Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 i'm running Maxxis Supermaxx on the 750 oil boiler (similar to Bandit oil cooled)cost about £60 front and £80 rear... had 8k so far out of the front and 5k out of the rear, plenty of grip and good in the wet.. if your after a budget but competent tyre, then might be worth giving them a go...you can pick up a pair in your sizes for £140 plus fitting (about £10 /wheel)have ran Michelins and Bridgestone, but happy with these for performance and price..most will recommend what they wear/have fitted.. gixxer711 Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 tyre fitting is pretty easy if you no how ,, only draw back is balancing the buggers ,, i fit my own but dont balance and havnt had a problem with balancing tip for fitting new tyres if there stiff ,, put them on or near a radiator for half hour to an hour then go fit ,, softens them up for fitting ,,or if anybody near luton dunstable area drop me a drink and i will fit ,, just havnt got a balancer anymore due to a thieving toerag ,, he got balanced himself ,, Quote
FinnDave Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 I just paid 390 euros (£340) for a pair of Metzler M5s for my Fireblade, the other shop round here wanted €460. Quote
Guest Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 I too need to get myself a new set... really i only need the front, but might aswell have them both done eh...I've been told the BEST tyres for a GPZ500 are the Bridgestone BT45 battlax... But no one has said why! lmao. I want good grip in the rain, currently my front tyre is made by some shite company called Heidenhau, and the front pretty much always looses grip in the wet especially around roundabouts. So as soon as the credit card arrives next week, new tyres xD eee! TC Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 tip for fitting new tyres if there stiff ,, put them on or near a radiator for half hour to an hour then go fit ,, softens them up for fitting Is that wise, exposing the tyre compound to excessive heat. Quote

BigShot Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Re: home-fitting. Am I right in thinking you're talking about using tyre irons/levers?It's been a long time since I've used some (not since I learned to fit bicycle tyres bare handed) but do know how to do it on bigger wheels. If that's what you mean, I'll post a link to a pretty comprehensive video of a dirt bike tyre being removed and a new one fitted (using irons) on YouTube. I assume road tyres would be essentially the same anyway. Quote
