spunky1976 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Hi allWhen free wheeling my thundercat it now makees a noise not dissimilar to that of a pushbike when that is being free wheeled, this has only started since the recent snow as the bike came back out from hibernation this week and it wasn't doing it before handchain is well lubed and tension is spot on. Also i now get an occasional throbbing through the left hand footpeg again i thought this may be chain and sprockets but they look fine and to be honest have only done around 2k miles.any ideas would be greatly appreciated Quote
Guest Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 my first thought, is to lube chain, then check oil, then cheack tyre pressures, then check under seat for a gremlin having a rave.... Quote
TC Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 The Noise could be some crap in your Brakes/calipers give them a real good wash out with cold fresh water.Oh and look for the gremlin Quote
spunky1976 Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 forgot to mention that if i give it some hard acceleration they both seem to go away and don't come back until around 10 - 15 mph mark chain is well lubed, tyre pressures are ok not checked oil didn't think of that as for the gremlin if there is one its gonna end up homeless Quote
Guest Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 to be fair, oil shouldn't make a difference when free wheeling, but like TC says, check brake calipers etc. Quote
spunky1976 Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 noise seems to be coming from the front sprocket so will be getting the cover off and having a good clean in there this weekend, hoping its not the bearing but then would expect that to be a constant noise at any speeds.... will let you know Quote
sparkeh9 Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Maybe your sprocket is worn and keeps jumping off then banging the casing or something? Quote
spunky1976 Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 Maybe your sprocket is worn and keeps jumping off then banging the casing or something? I thought the same but the sprockets were put on with the chain done 2k at most, had a bit of a look tonight and sprocket still looks brand new going to get sprocket cover off and have a good clean round it and clean and re-do chain tension at weekend just to be doubly sure its not that. cruz Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Could be as simple as a single tight link. Quote
spunky1976 Posted January 30, 2011 Author Posted January 30, 2011 the split link was solid not moving at all given it a good scrubbing and lubing and lot of jiggling and it now moves more than it did also readjusted the chain and noise has gone (well quieter) and don't notice it through the pegs either now.New speedo cable on too does feel better to do these jobs yourself Quote
