Chimera101 Posted September 16, 2011 Share Posted September 16, 2011 Hi all, I have a few (probably dumb) questions about replacing downpipes.Firstly are there any specialised tools I'll need? and will I need to remove the tank and drain the fuel and oil before hand?I do have a haynes book somewhere, but I'm at work and busy stressing out about it. eastanglianbiker Posted September 16, 2011 Share Posted September 16, 2011 you mgiht be able to just unbolt it from the frame and move it out of the way i would say that it is also best to use a wire brush on the bolts where it goes into the cylinder head and spray up witha good quality penetrating oil a couple of times before trying to undo the nuts or bolts whichever you have.you dont need to remove tank or drain engine oil if you can just unbolt the oil cooler and move it away enough.just remember to use new gaskets in the head where the pipes go in when fitting the new system Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Chimera101 Posted September 22, 2011 Author Share Posted September 22, 2011 Hi again, I recieved the parts for my exhaust a few days ago, and managed to remove the downpiped lastnite just before i't got too dark to do further work. I ordered a gasket for the link between the downpipes and the link pipe but discovered that ther is no way any gasket is gona fit in there. There is almost no gap between them, so I reckon im gona have to use an exhaust sealant.Any suggestions as to what type I should use or should avoid?thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
argentum40 Posted September 22, 2011 Share Posted September 22, 2011 Well i had a leak where the Can meets the downpipes and i used Holts Firegum... a few dollops spread around the joint, wang the pipe on, tighten up and started engine... no leaks and jobs a goodun... you can remove any excess straight away before it hardens with a damp cloth or sponge...
