30 Points - WTF?

When the courts allow drivers to keep driving with over 12 points, the courts are saying 'we are responsible for your actions' rather than making it clear to the driver 'you are responsible for your actions'. If someone can plead hardship to stop them losing their licence and rack up 32 points then they are taking the piss out of the courts and that is wrong. If the driver would suffer hardship it needs to be made clear to them it is their responsibility to ensure they do not suffer hardship.

I wonder what his insurance premium is

Lets get a little perspective, this isnt a widespread problem and tbh its no different to whats happening throughout the whole justice system, peope getting away witha slap on the wrist for offences that would have been automatic jail in the past.

Imo the 12 point limit isnt enough, we have a road network covered in speed cameras theres more stuff now that carries 3 point alocations and the cars and bikes are safer and more powerful yet we drive around on roads with artificially low limits, not for safety but for revenue and this letting people off is the same it generates revenue larger fines but keep driving oh you did it again heres another fine and your keys etc

Also the 12 point thing doesnt let you distinguish between mr and mrs safe racking a few over mph over the limit speed camera cops and those been done for dangerous driving maybe a 2 tier system should be incorporated?

However nice to see the unbiased reporting interviewing someone from brake and wheeling out the accident victim

And why is this coming to light now, its always happened its nowt new.

They claim losing their license would cause exceptional hardship

What tosh... If it did why did they risk it like that on all those occasions? People don't get unlucky just like that, there's room there for 4 mistakes or 2 really big ones. If you are making them like that then perhaps it should be a heavier sentence as well. As its so often van drivers who use the vehicle for business etc. They need to learn they aren't exempt from the law.

12 points and your out. No exceptions unless extreme circumstances caused it.

Insurance is self-defeating these days. It goes up, less pay for it and go uninsured, they have an accident and our premiums go up, so less pay and so on. We need a system that if uninsured drivers are caught they pay a huge fine partly to the British association of insurers, which then uses it to pay for incidents. And if they cant pay due to their circumstances then they can pay in installments and get barred benefits

If this happened Birmingham would shit itself. (highest level of no-insurance)

That seems like it'd be a better idea!

Probably aint bothered getting any again :)

If I was hit by a driver who had 32 points on his licence and no insurance because of it, I would look to the courts for an explanation as to why they had let him continue driving.
