hello my foot brake is slightly loose, the bolt holding it to the frame is as tight as it can possibly go and yet it still has some side to side play ( a centimetre each way) would this make it fail its mot even if the bolt is tight and the brake works as intended ??

ps what can be done to sort it ?

If the bolt is really tight, then it's likely that there's a spacer (thick washer) missing. I'd take the bolt out and pack it with washers to minimise the sideways play. Or get a new brake lever.

Check out what parts are supposed to be there in a manual or parts list.

first of all post in the right section "pitstop"

remove it and check for any signs of wear if its worn excessively then you may need to replace the lever and bolt :?

The foot lever slides onto splines and the retaining bolt fits in a groove in the pivot on mine. I would suspect if yours is the same the pivot is loose and no amount of tightening the lever to a loose pivot wil tighten the pivot. 8-)

i took the brake of today and i saw that the side to side movement cannot be eliminated completely but will it prevent it from passing its mot, considering the brake works perfectly and the bolt is as tight as can be

So long as it's not likely to fall off, and so long as the brake works effectively and the looseness doesn't impede it's working in any way, I don't see how it could cause an MOT failure. An advisory maybe...
