polecat Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 (edited) Finished off the fazer today and its 20112011 Refitted the Fuel tank parts last night working after dark So I could not really see the bike too well. This morning I put the fuel back in carefully Fitted the old mirrors as the New ones have not arrived and Put the key in and it started first press of the button !!OUT OF THE DARK AND INTO THE LIGHTFew photos of the bikes first journey out of the hanger It still needs a clean (got a bit dusty in the garage) and I am not going to polish it until the paint is about a month old.Spent the rest of the day trying to widen the entrance to the hanger as it is VERY tight Edited November 20, 2011 by polecat Quote
Fozzie Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 Another project out of the garage and into use, well done I want to see this paint job in the flesh so if I find myself nearby and I often do I may pop in and inspect it Quote

polecat Posted November 25, 2011 Author Posted November 25, 2011 AAAAArrrrrggggggg Just got back from Failing my MOT Rear Back Tyre below 1mm in the centerrear back pads less than 1.5mmheadlight aim too lowadvisory long travel of brake lever front and back and chain too loose Anyhoo rather than faff about I just said" Sort it out please" and walked home !If you leave it where it was MOt'ed then you don't pay for a retest so that was one reason and the other is I did not fancy riding it with a dodgy back tyre Funny thing about the tyre is it was huge tread except bang in the middle where it was Low then there was a big flat spot with no tread so he suggested someone may have had a BIG skid on it at some point Anyhoo at least the alignment was bang on and that had been my main concern Let you know what the bill is when I go pick it up later Quote
polecat Posted November 25, 2011 Author Posted November 25, 2011 Got back from the MOT feeling like I have been Mugged New Rear tyre £135Rear Brake pads £25.10Labour £45VAT £41.02TOTAL £246.12 Well as I said it could have been worse ...... but for a Crashed bike it cost me a further £300 for parts and paint so I think it is around £800 saving on a simalar non Cat C bike and I had the fun of doing it, was able to choose a non standard paint so it is unique to me and for some reaason it is easier on the mind (and wifes) to buy a cheap bike and spend some money on it rather than go and spend all the money in one go Would I do it again ? well I will not be doing another bike but will continue to look after this one and improve it I would highly reccomend to anyone wanting a bargain bike to consider a CAT C as long as you go into it with your eyes open and expect the unexpected I look forwards to seeing some of your projects evolve and belive me the satisfaction of doing this is priceless!!Thanks for watching Quote

Danny-B- Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Hi Polecat,Fantastic thread, and one i've been studying for the past wee while. I came off my ninja and ended up grazing the left side badly and cracking it too. I'm sure a bit of plastic welding will cure it though. But then i'll need to respray the offending panel. I'd rather respray the whole lot white but i dont fancy tackling a full spray with no experience !!There seem to many different recommendations in regards to paining panels but as i can see your results i will probs match your process, crossing my fingers that i can achieve something similar.Heres what i have in my head ... .(Once i've repaired the panel etc)Sand the panel down with 180 - 300 gritWipe panel down with white spirits.spray with primer (3 coats, 20mins between)leave to cure for 24hrs ish?- Should i sand with wet n dry before colour ?Spray with colour coat (3 coats, 20 mins between)... When do i start spraying clear coat ? Quote
polecat Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 Hi Polecat,(Once i've repaired the panel etc)Sand the panel down with 180 - 300 gritWipe panel down with white spirits.spray with primer (3 coats, 20mins between)leave to cure for 24hrs ish?- Should i sand with wet n dry before colour ?Spray with colour coat (3 coats, 20 mins between)... When do i start spraying clear coat ?Hi Danny, thanks for the comments leave the primer to cure at least 24 hoiurs (depending on temps)You must spray the clear coats within about an hour of your final colour coat as if you dont they wont bind and the clear coat may lift, bubble or craze.Everything else you said seems spot on Any other problems you get feel free to PM me Quote
mealexme Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 talk about bringing a thread back from the dead...Do you have any up to date pics? I'd like to see how this has fared after a few years. Also, did you end up putting anything on it to stop any excess fuel destroying the paintwork? (I'm thinking about starting a project myself) Quote
