Throttled Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 (edited) My bike will not start. I have not used it much since I had my crash which involved getting new handlebars. I had problems getting it going a few days ago. The starter motor works fine, but the engine will not catch. When it did start it blew out blue smoke. This time it will go at all. I have even tried to bump start it and nothing, the engine refuses to turn over and it just jerks me to a halt. Sometimes the engine will turn over on the starter, but choke in or out, using the throttle or not, it just will not start. The garage will come and get for £35, but not till Tuesday. Any suggestions as to what to do?Thanks Edited November 12, 2011 by Throttled Quote
Tango Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 May be flooding......try starting it with no choke and the throttle wide open (against end stop). If that don't work remove the plug and see if it's wet or not. Could be no or weak spark. When bumping it try the higher gears...2nd, 3rd or even 4th. Quote
mealexme Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 i thought blue smoke meant it was burning oil?sorry not much help lol Quote
megawatt Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Take plug(s) out, after trying to start. If they are wet, it's a spark problem. If not wet, it's a fuel problem. Quote
Throttled Posted November 11, 2011 Author Posted November 11, 2011 Sounds fooked! engine out job I bloody well hope not Thanks for the suggestions. I can try no choke and full throttle and bump starting in a higher gear, but spark plug out is going to be difficult as I do not have the tools. Quote

megawatt Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Blue smoke not necessarily failed piston ring. Get yerself some tools or your bike is gonna cost you a lot of money! Quote

Yeah....blue smoke could be just running extremely rich or burning off unburnt fuel after attempting to start the bike........Deffo get some tools...... Quote

Get yerself some tools or your bike is gonna cost you a lot of money! or a head gasket gone between an oil way or valve stem oil seals theres quite a bit on the list! get some tools remove plug and give it a good clean up if its wet let it dry out or replace for peace of mind how longs it been stood? if the plug is dry the carb could be gummed up and need a clean Quote

Colin the Bear Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 How you gunna fix it if you don't even have a spark plug spanner. Buy tools or ring the mechanic. Yes and check the kill switch if it's a honda. Quote
Throttled Posted November 12, 2011 Author Posted November 12, 2011 The porblem was the chock had not been reconnected properly after the new hamdlebars were put on after i had the accident. So I was trying to start it with no choke. The repair took seconds, the garage was very apologetic and I was not charged. Quote
Tango Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Hmmmmm.....good news, but this is the sort of thing why I won't trust my bike with "professionals"... Glad it wasn't anything too serious though..... Quote
